PILOGUE

NINE MONTHS LATER…

Harmony tried to relax into the rhythm of the music that played softly from her speakers, but the song’s pulsing beat and sultry lyrics only reminded her that she hadn’t had sex since her Rut. She was horny, but had no prospects besides Tyson, and she wasn’t willing to beg for his touch.

While he’d acclimated to fatherhood just fine, he hadn’t made any attempt to touch her beyond what was absolutely necessary. She longed to be seen as a female, to be desired. After everything she had been through, she’d hoped to avoid being seen solely as a victim. Yet months without interest on Tyson’s part and her Soul’s apparent bad taste in men forced her into celibacy because no other male would fill her need.

Sighing, she turned on the shower, deciding to wash away the day under the spray of unnecessarily hot water.

When she exited, Tyson stood in her doorway, leaning against the doorjamb, watching her. Intensely. He tracked her movements like a wary snake, poised to strike.

She tried to ignore him, but the way he studied her made her slightly uncomfortable. She was being examined, not admired. If his goal was to make her feel sexy, he was failing. Miserably.

Harmony ventured into her closet and pulled an over-sized t-shirt from one of the built-in drawers and pulled it on. She went through the motions of fulfilling the rest of her bedtime routine, carefully washing her face before brushing her teeth.

Through it all, he watched her every single move…

* * *

Tyson stood against the wall watching Harmony dress for bed. She glanced up at him in the mirror before nervously going back to brushing her teeth. He’d been scrutinizing her all day, so he knew it was making her nervous, but he couldn’t not study her.

As far as Tyson could understand, nothing had recently changed about their relationship. He still regarded her has the mother of his child and treated her with the respect and dignity she deserved. Yet, when she walked in from her run that morning, she had a full body halo surrounding her.

At first he thought it was a trick of the morning sun, like it had been at the cabin, but he’d been proven wrong when she walked into the heavily shadowed living room still surrounded by the golden halo.

His first reaction was to curse and try to deny what he’d seen. Considering how effective he knew that would be, he didn’t embrace that option too long. That’s when he started to stare.

Tyson was hesitant to accept his second chance at a Soul’s Mate. The gods could be annoyingly intrusive, but he’d accept the chance to be free of the Longing, even if it meant a second chance at keeping his woman safe. He’d be the protector he failed to be the first time.

“Tyson?”

“Take that off.”

Confusion caused her to scrunch up her features. “What?”

“If you want to keep it, take it off.”

She hesitantly reached for the hem of her thigh high nightgown. Slowly, as if her entire purpose was to drive him in-fucking-sane, she revealed the contours of her body. Without the fear of her master coming to claim her, Harmony had grown curvy since they’d started living together.

Harmony tossed the shirt on the floor, keeping her eyes averted. He reached out and nudged her chin.

“Look at me, Harm.”

“I feel like I’m getting inspected.”

“Appreciated. I like the view.”

Tyson trailed his fingers down her neck before he speared his fingers through her hair and yanked her head back so he could gaze into her eyes. They’d darkened in anticipation. The scent of her arousal permeated in the air. He released her hair and stripped out of his clothes, his cock bouncing free of his jeans, happily anticipating the feel of her after months of frustrating celibacy. Harmony’s eyes immediately focused downward, making him smile. She muffled a whimper and clenched her fists at her sides as if to keep her hands to herself.

“Come here.”

Harmony let her hands slowly trace up his chest, eliciting a rumbled growl from the back of his throat. She tilted her head up and flashed a nervous smile.

“Nervous?” he asked.

She nodded and tried to dip her head, but he cupped her face and kissed her lightly on the lips. Harmony didn’t appear to want the gentle kiss he offered, because she reached up and pulled him closer, demanding more from him.

Tyson released his hold on her face and picked her up and carried her back to the bed. His dick was poised at her entrance. Harmony ground her pussy against him and it took every ounce of his Rocky training not to drop to the floor and fuck her like sex-crazed animal.

The trip to the bed felt like it was longer than the ten steps he took to get there, but judging by Harmony’s trembling, it was longer than either of them wanted. She struggled against him; her breathes coming in short pants as she tried to get him to slip inside.

“Please…” she whimpered.

He answered her plea, thrusting forward and joining their bodies. He wanted to fuck her hard and make up for the months of inactivity, but the need to clarify their relationship kept distracting him from his need to physically claim her.

“Stop,” he said as Harmony kept trying to move against him.

She focused on him, instead of the orgasm she was already chasing and frowned. If anything she knew he’d fuck her good, but he knew she didn’t expect him to say those three stupid words. The three words he’d never had the chance to share with his first Soul’s Mate.

“I love you.” She moved to speak, but he kissed her into silence. When he broke the kiss, he shook his head. “Don’t. You’ll ruin it.”

She laughed and pulled his face down to hers, kissing him softly.

“Shut up and fuck me already.”

“See, you ruined it.”

With the moment gone, he gave her what she wanted. She’d plead for mercy before the night was over. He would make it his mission to show her that tonight was the first night of forever. That she was his in every way he was hers.

One day they’d share the truth of their soul colors with each other and maybe discuss the possibility of getting married. For now he’d relish her pleasured cries and the way her body gripped him as she came.

For her, he was the villain, because she would never appreciate the type of male who rode a white horse and came to her rescue. She needed him to be mayhem and chaos, the male who defended the Hafiz Nation with the ethics of a villain, not with the morals of a hero.
