Every single time he would
nibble, my nipples would harden and my clit would twitch. Honestly, all he had to do was keep with the licking, nibbling, and biting on that lobe, and I would cry out an orgasm like you wouldn’t believe. As his tongue played games with my ear, I grabbed the bedspread and balled it up in my fist, while lustful moans vibrated deep within my ear.  My thighs started to tense up.A couple minutes more and I would come like crazy.

Max
squeezed my breast, tweaked my nipple hard. My body quickly began to convulse, and a satisfied growl sounded in my ear as I cried out, not in pain but in pure ecstasy.

Chapter
Thirteen

For the next three weeks, just as Max had warned me would be the case, we rarely saw each other. He spent a lot of time holed up in his office, or sometimes he didn’t come to work at all, because they had started to pack some of his things from his apartment. He had to go over things with his boss, and he held a ton of conference calls. He didn’t even have time for lunch with me, he had been so busy. But every once in a while, he would give me a call, letting me know he missed me or he loved me.

When I would come back from lunch, which
I now spent alone, since Darla took up with Erik, I would find a little note that said, “I miss you” or “I love you,” accompanied by a single rose or some other flower. It was his way of letting me know that he was still there for me, regardless of how busy he might be. I appreciated the sentiment, but I missed him, missed his touch, his scent, how his eyes would twinkle when he smiled at me.

Yeah
, I had it bad for Max Taylor. Can’t you tell?

“Hello
, this is Sarah,” I said, answering the phone.

“Hello
, baby.”

My heart skipped a beat when I heard his voice
. More than a week had passed since we last talked which for me had been the longest wait on the planet. I literally almost jumped out of my skin, wanting to squeal with joy when he called me baby.

“Say that again
, please, just one more time.”

“Hello
, baby, I’ve missed you so much.”

Every part of me tingled with delight
. He missed me just as much as I missed him, and that thought was enough to put a smile on my face.

“Oh
, I’ve missed you so much, sweetheart. How are you today?”

“Tired as hell
. Thought I’d take a bit of a break to give you a call. How are you?”

“I’m much better now that you’ve called me today. Do you have all of your stuff packed?”

“All my furniture is packed, my pictures and everything. I left out some clothes that I’ll need here, of course. I’m going to be staying at a hotel for the time being.”

“Why not stay with me instead of going to some stupid hotel? I mean
, I don’t understand why you are paying money for a hotel when you could be staying with me. Plus, I can cook for you, and we can be together until it’s time for us to go to Florida.”

He chuckled.
“I was hoping you would say you wanted me to stay with you. The idea of staying in a hotel doesn’t sound that great.”

“I swear
sometimes you can be so silly. Listen, can you pick me up? My car is still in the shop. I get off at five.”

Sure. I’ll meet you up front, and I’ll bring something for us to cook when we get to your place.”

“Fine, see you at five.” I hung up
, feeling a bit better than I did when I came into work earlier that day.

“Was that Max?” asked Darla.

“Yeah, he’s got the majority of his stuff packed and shipped. He told me he was going to get a hotel, but I told him he could stay with me. Speaking of men, how is yours?”

A wrinkle of her nose
, along with a smirk told me she had good news.

“He’s taking me camping up in the mountains
. I haven’t been camping in years, and he told me he had a friend who had this spot that he could use, so we are going there for the weekend. We’ll sleep under the stars, fish in a creek… It’s going to be fun.”

“I never figured you to be a camping girl
.”

“Oh
, please! My dad used to take us camping during the summer all the time when I was a kid and a teenager. It’s just that now that I live in the city, I don’t get the chance to go, and I’m too busy. But now I got the chance to go with a handsome guy, I’m not going to pass it up.”

I smiled. S
eemed we had both found someone special, someone to make our lives a bit more adventurous and a bit more significant. At least, I thought Max did all that for me. I had found the man of my dreams, he was only a few yards away, and it took me years to get the nerve to talk with him. I know that sounds so silly—just thinking about it makes me cringe—and I wish I would have had the guts to approach him earlier, because now he would be leaving me in the next couple of days. Letting out a sigh, I continued on with my reports. I had another two hours before Max came to pick me up, which meant I had to get busy on the two major reports I had to get through. One of them wouldn’t take me long, but that one report I had so much trouble finding would take a lot longer. The second, minutes, and hours of working on those two stupid reports really killed me, especially the second one, and I figured karma was getting back at me for yelling at that girl a couple of weeks back. I glanced at the clock on my computer and saw that it was only four fifteen.

I was ready to go

Now
!

Picking up the phone, I called Don
, hoping he would let me go a bit early.I said a quick prayer as he answered the phone.

“This is Don
.”

“Hey
, Don, this is Sarah. I need to leave early. I haven’t been feeling so good today, and right now, I feel completely drained.”

“You don’t sound good at all
. Go on ahead. I’ll check you tomorrow.”

“Thanks, goodbye.” I turned off my computer and put up my files for the next day
, and then turned to Darla. “I’ll check you tomorrow. I’m heading home.”

“Alright then, I hope you get to feeling better
.” She gave me a wink. No doubt, she knew what I was up to.

I smiled
and took my purse from inside my drawer.

“See you later
, Scout Master Darla.” I knew she was going to get me back for calling her Scout Master Darla, since her and Erik would be camping this weekend but honestly I thought it was too funny not to pass up.

* * * *

I headed toward the elevator. I dug around in my purse and pulled out my cell phone so I could call Max once I got downstairs and outside the building.I stepped into the elevator car, pushed the button to take me to the lobby, and waited while the doors slowly closed. I breathed a sigh. I honestly didn’t want to be at work. I had been antsy thinking about being with Max. It had been three weeks since we were together, and phone calls weren’t helping much.

I needed full body contact,
felt like he was my drug, and just being away from him for so long was causing me to have moments of withdrawal. When the elevator opened, I quickly headed out toward the revolving glass door, and then outside into the hustle and bustle of city work life. I pressed the button on the phone to call Max, knowing he would be shocked to find out I was already out of work for the day.

“Hey
, babe, how are you?” he answered.

“I’ll be fine when you come and pick me up. I just got off of work
, and I’m waiting out front.”

“Really
? How’d you pull that off?”

“Told Don I wasn’t feeling good and he let me go
.” I smiled as I walked toward one of the stone benches situated nearby. “I’ll be sitting here waiting for you to come get me.”

“Great, I should be there in about five minutes
. I’m at the store, but I’m fixing to check out.”

“Alright then
, I’ll be here.” I hung up and waited for him to arrive, enjoying the perfect weather. Not too cold, not too hot, and only a light breeze.I loved days like those.

The familiar ring of my phone
told me Andre from the chocolate shop was calling me. “Hello, Andre, how are you?”

“Sarah
, my dear, I am at the hospital with Charlotte. She went into labor a couple of hours ago. I completely forgot to call you, I got so excited, but she reminded me. She wants you here if you can come.”

“Why
, of course I can come! I’m waiting for Max to pick me up in a minute or so. I’ll have him bring me by as soon as he gets here.”

By the time I said the words,
Max pulled up and I rose from the bench.

“He just pulled up
, Andre. Which hospital are you at?”

“King’s Mill
Memorial Hospital.”

“We’ll be there
.” I climbed into the car, hanging up the phone. “We need to go to the hospital. Charlotte is in laborand needs me.”

“Let’s go then
.”

H
e put his foot on the pedal and we sped off down the road toward the highway. King’s Mill Hospital was about six miles away, but with the way he was driving, it would take us no time to get to there. I was a bit nervous, because Charlotte wasn’t due for at least another month, and those babies were early.

“I’m going to drop you off so I can go back to your place and put up these groceries
. I’ll come back and sit with you.” Max assured me.

“That sounds great
. I know Charlotte must be worried.” I pulled out my keys and put them into the cup holder. “There are the keys. Use the one with the pink on the key to get into the apartment.”

I
spotted the hospital and sat up in my seat. It took us a minute to figure out where the Labor and Delivery area was. Max pulled up to the curb, and I leaned over to give him a kiss goodbye.

I hurried out the car and inside toward the nurse at
a reception desk.

“Hi,
where is Charlotte Lamoure’s room, please?” I asked.

“Who are you?” she asked.

“I’m Sarah Alexander.”

“Sarah!”

I looked over my shoulderto see Andre coming down a hallway. Bless his heart, he already looked frazzled with worry.

“Come
,” he told me. “Charlotte has been asking for you.”

“Max is on his way back
. He had to go home to put up some groceries,” I told him.

“A gentleman name
d Max will be coming. Please send him to room 2309,” Andre told the nurse. “Come with me, Sarah.”

Grabbing my hand
, he pulled me on down the hallway and around a corner until we came to room 2309.Inside lay Charlotte, hooked up to an IV and a machine that was making beeping sounds. Despite the fact that Andre was a nervous wreck, Charlotte was her completely calm self. She held out her hands for me to take them, as I walked over to her bed.

“How are you?”

“Well, I’m having a baby.”

W
e both laughed, but then she took a deep breath, holding the side of her stomach.

“And these boys want out
. They’ve been kicking since this morning. The doctor says that this happens sometimes, with twins wanting to come early. They said I’ve dilated about three centimeters, so far. Still have a long way to go.”

“Why didn’t you call me this morning when the contractions first started? I would have come to help out
.”

“Oh no, I wanted to wait until we had gotten in and settled before I called you. You would have been sitting here all dang day like the rest of us.
My doctor hasn’t even gotten here yet. She should be here in another hour. So, for now, I am just waiting and having contractions. But I had to see you so that you could know what was going on. We consider you just like family, you know. You are the godmother to these boys so of course, you must be involved in their arrival.”

I smile
d. Her beautiful words meant the world to me. I tried not to tear up, but of course, I did a bit. I grabbed the tissue box from the rolling tray and pulled a couple out.

“Well
, I’ll be here until I see them, so I might as well get comfortable and wait right here with you. You’re lucky I got out of work a bit early. Max had come to pick me up.” I pulled one of the big chairs that convert into a bed a little closer.

“So
, it seems like you both are getting very close now. That’s good. I’m glad. You need someone like him in your life. He’s an amazing man, Sarah, and you’re very lucky to have him.”

“Yeah
, but he’s going to be leaving me soon.”

“What do you mean?”

“He’s going to New York in a couple of days for his job. They are transferring him there.”

“No, that’s awful. Well
, why don’t you go with him?”

“Go with him
? I can’t just leave my job.”

Charlotte took
a deep breath, and I took her hand, knowing she must be having another contraction. After a minute or two of breathing, she let out a slow exhale.

“Sarah, how many times have you told me about wanting to open your own shop?
About how you knew your job wasn’t what you’ve wanted to do with your life? Not to mention that this is the man of your dreams we are talking about. How often does a woman find a man who makes her life complete? You’ve been waiting too long to let this go.”
