said, thrusting his holdall into Dr Baumgartner’s waiting hand.

have you been?’ Juliette greeted congenially.
‘Don’t change
the subject. Where have you been?’
‘I’ll tell you
when you get home. Where are you?’
‘How likely is
it that you’ll come up with something?’
‘So soon?’
Morton said, feeling suddenly bereft of his newly-acquired relationship.
‘Morton?’
Professor Geoffrey Daniels asked in a gruff, baritone voice.
‘Have you
checked your emails yet?’
‘No, not today,
why’s that then?’
