“Yes!” she breathed joyously, tears mingling with the love overflowing from her eyes.

“Don’t cry,” he murmured, reaching up to wipe them away.

“They’re happy tears. I’ve wanted to be with you for so long.”

His hand shook as he slipped the engagement ring on her finger. He wasn’t at all surprised to find it was a perfect fit. Like the woman herself.

“This ring belonged to my mother, but if you don’t like we’ll visit my jeweler’s and you can choose any one you want.”

“The ring is perfect, just like you are,” she told him, beaming. “But if I’m going to be your wife, I have to insist on one stipulation.”

He held up his hand, halting her before he could utter the words “No. Don’t say it. I already know what you’re about to ask, and I’m afraid I can’t promise you that. There
will
be some coddling from time to time.”

“I guess I’ll just have to learn to live with it, then,” she grinned.

There were worse things,
Stephanie reminded herself as Frank swept her up in his arms and proceeded to demonstrate exactly how very much he loved her.

Yes. There were definitely worse things.
