His Every Touch [The Complete Series] (11 page)

“Courtney, love.” His voice called her from
the darkness.
Her eyelids were heavy but she forced them
open, wanting to see her lover. His eyes were the first thing she saw, peering
down at her. She tried to reach up, wanting to run her fingertips over his
face, but her arms wouldn't obey. She wasn't tied up anymore, she knew that.
She was lying in Vance's arms. But her muscles didn't seem to want to move. Not
that she could blame them. It had been a while since she had come that hard or
that long.
“Hey you.” She grinned, feeling a bit
punch-drunk.
“Do you know what today is?” He ran his index
finger over her bottom lip. When she shook her head, he continued. “One year
ago today, you ruined my best shirt and changed my life forever.”
Courtney's eyes widened slightly. She hadn't realized
that he'd marked the day.
He picked up something from the bed next to
her. “And I'm hoping you'll change it again today.” He opened the small box,
revealing the most perfect diamond ring that she had ever seen.
Her heart caught in her throat. Was he
kidding?
“Courtney Bell, will you marry me?”
She stared at him, the love in his eyes, on
his face, taking her breath away. If someone had told her a year ago, that
she'd be lying next to the man she'd just spilled coffee on, body still
tingling from the aftereffects of a brain numbing orgasm, staring at a
beautiful engagement ring, she'd have laughed. After all they'd been through,
it amazed her that he could still surprise her.
“Court?” Vance's voice sounded nearly
panicked.
“Yes,” she blurted out. She hadn't realized
she'd been taking so long. “Yes, of course, yes!”
As he slid the ring onto her finger, she took
a shuddering breath. The feel of the cool metal against her skin, somehow,
eased a pain she hadn't known she'd had, made her feel like she could breathe
again.
