“I know how I’m going to spend the first couple of dollars,” Lisa said, seeing that the waitress was on her way to their table. “I’m going to have hot caramel on vanilla ice cream.” The waitress jotted it down. She looked at Carole.

“I’ll have hot fudge on mint chip.”

The waitress wrote that down. Then she turned to Stevie. “Vanilla?” she asked hopefully.

“No way,” Stevie said. “I want, um, raspberry swirl with pineapple chunks and chocolate sauce, covered with whipped cream.”

The woman gaped.

“Oh, and don’t forget the cherry on top, will you?” The waitress fled to the kitchen.

Things were back to normal for The Saddle Club, and that was just absolutely, totally, completely, and outrageously fine with all of them.
