CHAPTER FIVE

Tobias

Hysteria and disbelief bubbled up in me at the sight of the man from my dreams. He was real. Flesh and blood, and what looked like six-foot-three inches of pure hard, lean muscle. I gripped the edge of the counter and forced myself to breathe as my head went light from the lack of oxygen. He was as brain-meltingly hot in front of me as he had been above me in my dream. I’d never reacted to men before, had never even had an inkling towards the same sex, but I felt myself instantly grow hard, my pulse pounding as need flooded through me and brought back the light-headedness.

I shook myself as the annoying customer I’d been taking the order from raged at dream man.

“Go get your manager, boy,” she yelled at me, her face contorting in offended anger. “You go get him and I’m going to tell him how useless you are letting this
man
,” she sneered the word, not at all fazed by all his good-looking glory in the black t-shirt that molded over every hard, taut muscle and the pair of jeans tucked into his thick black boots. He wouldn’t look amiss running a motorcycle club. All that was missing was a sleeve of tattoos. I glanced at his arm. Nope. No tattoos, just tanned, golden skin over bulging biceps and thick forearms dusted with dark hair. I rolled my tongue back into my mouth and hardened my expression, hoping to hell there wasn’t drool dripping from my chin.

What was it about the man that turned me gay with a look from those bright green eyes? It was so absurd and I felt so horny that I couldn’t even find myself scared of my reaction to him. I wanted to yell at the woman, tell her that she needed to get her ass out of the shop before it got any bigger from the five pizzas she’d been trying to order with an expired coupon and turned instead to dream man staring down at me as though he was going to reach over the counter and devour me in front of the shop full of people.
Yes please! Wait, no. Damn it, no.

“Please return to the back of the line, sir. It’s rude to the other customers if you jump the line.” I was surprised by how steady my voice came out.

“Come with me, we’re leaving,” he said. His voice was low, slightly rough and it caused shivers to spike up my spine as he totally ignored my words.

I frowned at him. “I’m not going anywhere with you,
sir.”
I emphasized the word, letting him know how close I was coming to the end of my patience. The customers before him had already stretched it thin and he was sawing through the last thread.

And if you’re not going to get your ass to the back of the line, then I suggest to get it to the door.”

I blinked as he grinned, baring his strong white teeth at me—holy fuck, those canine teeth of his were
sharp
—and leaned forward over the counter, his head bending down towards mine.

“Don’t fight me, Tobias, I’ll enjoy subduing you but you don’t want your little humans to watch, do you?”

I shivered as his threat. It sounded so fucking sexual as it washed over me and then I fully comprehended what he’d said.

Humans? What the fuck?

I took a hasty step back and narrowed my eyes at him. Danger, this man was dangerous. So why weren’t my instincts screaming at me to run? I crossed my arms protectively over my chest and glowered at him trying to look intimidating. “Please leave now or I’ll call the cops.”

“Is there a problem here?” I heard Ronny ask as he came up behind me. His small eyes were narrowed on the scene unfolding in his shop. The large ridiculous woman was still huffing at the side and crazy dream man was still staring down at me, the corner of his hard mouth tugged up as though he found my reaction to him amusing.

“This—this
man!
He suddenly pushed to the front of the line totally disregarding the fact that I was giving my order. And your boy here did nothing about it!” She pointed her stubby thick finger at me and wagged it accusingly.

“What the—?” Hadn’t she just heard me telling the man to get to the back of the line or get out?

Shit. Ronny turned to glare at me and I watched as sweat popped out onto his brow and all the way up to his receding hairline. His look told me I’d be getting it later. He turned back to face crazy dream man.

“I’m sorry, sir, but you’ll have to leave. I won’t have any customers disrupting my business or my regulars.”

I swallowed as crazy dream man looked down his straight nose at Ronny and dismissed him like he was nothing more than a squashed bug on his windshield. “That’s fine. I’m leaving. With Tobias.”

My mouth dropped open and my heart began to thud at the sound of my name from his mouth. How did he know my name?
Jesus, was crazy really psycho?
All Michael’s warnings about keeping my head down and not attracting attention came back to bite me and I flipped through the last year wondering what I’d done to attract this guy’s attention? The dreams and the mark on my neck I’d tried to conceal by turning up the collar of my polo rammed back into the forefront of my mind.

No, no.
I started to shake and my crossed arms moved down to wrap themselves around me as I tried to hold it in.

I heard people gasp as my stalker leapt over the counter and pulled me into his arms. I stiffened and tried to push away, but his arms were like steel and his body unyielding against my shaky arms. His smell washed over me and, extraordinarily, I felt myself begin to calm.

“Get out of my way.” His chest rumbled against me as he growled out the order. I saw Ronny quickly scramble towards the wall, plastering himself as well as he could for a two-hundred pounds plus man, and then psycho calm-inducing dream man was herding me out of there.

The door closed on Ronny’s angry yell to not come back.

“Who the hell are you?” I asked resignedly as I sagged in the embrace of his arms.

CHAPTER SIX

Hayden

Who the hell are you?

His question echoed in my head as his blue-green eyes looked up at me in confusion. I gripped his arms hard, forcing myself to relax my grip as he winced. “Why did you ask me that?” I asked, my voice harsh as fear snaked through me. “You know who I am Tobias.”

“How do you know who I am?” He kept his arms wrapped protectively around himself as he tried to step out of my arms.

I released him in shock. What the hell was happening?

“Why do you know my name? Why were you in my dream?” he asked shakily as his hand came up to touch the mark I’d left on his skin, it was dark and red against his lightly tanned skin.

“No.”
No, this couldn’t be happening.
I’d finally found him and he had no idea who I was. What he was to me. I stepped up to him, slowly as not to scare him and I made to reach for him before pulling my hand back. It clenched at my side. “It’s me, Hayden. Your alpha, your fated mate.”
Please be joking. Please remember me. Remember us.

He frowned and me then surprised me by laughing. “I’ve got no idea what you’re on about, but you’re not my friend. We’re not mates.”

“Yes. We are. You were taken from me and I’ve been searching for you for five years. I’ve finally found you.” This time I couldn’t stop myself from reaching for him and felt something splinter inside of me as he flinched away from my touch.

“Look, I don’t know who you are but I’m
not who you think
I
am. As hot as you are, you need to get the hell away from me and stay away.”

I watched, stunned, and in pained disbelief as he turned and walked away.

He didn’t head back into the pizza shop, but down the block instead. I knew it was no use trying to talk sense into him here on the street, to try and make him remember—to force him to—my little wolf was stubborn as fuck and I knew I needed to give him time to process what I’d told him. He was heading down the opposite way I’d come, but I knew where he’d end up. I followed him discreetly for several minutes and then headed back to his apartment. I’d made a promise and I was going to keep it. My little mate was coming back home with me.

****

“What the hell are you doing in my apartment?
How the fuck did you even get in?”
Tobias yelled as he entered to find me leaning against the wall looking out his opened window. The view was dismal and I fiercely missed the sights of the packlands. But more than that I’d missed the sight of my mate in front of me. I pushed away from the wall as he sighed and removed the cap he was still wearing from the pizza shop. He frowned down at it in shock as though he hadn’t noticed he’d been wearing it the entire time and dropped it into the bin with a look of disgust. Good. I never wanted him going near that place again.

I didn’t like the way that man had looked at him or the way the fat woman had treated him. He deserved better. If that woman had been a male I would have wrapped my hand around her throat and slammed her into the wall, but as it was I’d had to push her incessant squawking out of my head as I drank in the sight of Tobias in that ridiculous cap that shadowed his blue-green eyes.

He looked at me wearily now, as though he was tired of telling me to leave and headed for the dingy bathroom. The facilities were better in the forest. At least there I knew the running water was clean and not coming out of some condemned rusty pipe hidden between the walls.

I followed after him and leaned against the door as I watched him splash his face and look up at the mirror. He met my eyes in the glass. “What do you want from me?” he asked as he leaned over and dried his face.

I left the door and stalked over to him, using the breadth of my body to corner him. He wasn’t going to run from me again. “I’ve told you, I’m your mate.”

He screwed up his face. “And I’ve told
you
we’re not friends.”

I backed him up against the sink and slammed my hands out against the wall behind him, effectively caging him in. The mirror hanging against the wall rattled ominously. “Not friends. Mates.
This
.” I pulled one hand back and slid it up the back of his head, tilting it back and cupping it as I crushed my mouth down over his.

He exploded in my arms. Needy and desperate as they clawed at my back, his hands tugged at the hem of my t-shirt ferociously. Unable to snake his hands beneath it, he pushed the cotton up and curled his hands into my back as he kissed me back hard.

I pulled him deeper against me, rubbing our cocks together as I devoured his mouth. Fuck, he tasted even sweeter in real life than through the connection, and I drank him in, soaking up my senses with the taste, scent and feel of him in my arms.

He moaned against my mouth, made whimpering sounds that went straight to my cock and had me growling in response.
Mine.

I brought my hands to his waist and half lifted him as I maneuvered him to the wall beside us. He arched against it, rubbing against me and nipping at my lower lip as he successfully tugged my t-shirt off my head and reached for my fly. I moaned as his hand brushed against my leaking cock as he unzipped me. He pulled his mouth off mine to look down.

“Do you see how hard I am for you, mate? How desperately I ache to finally take and claim you,” I asked as I cupped his chin and forced his eyes back up to mine. I knew he wouldn’t be able to miss the desperate hunger swirling in them and wasn’t surprised to see it reflected back in his. He might have forgotten me, but there was no mistaking the hunger between us, the need, the connection. His body needed mine.

He swallowed, his glittering eyes looking up at me mutely. They flickered down and then back up to my mouth.

I groaned and claimed his mouth beneath mine again as I yanked at his pants. They ripped in my hands, freeing his hard cock and then Tobias was moaning into my mouth, his hands clawing up to my shoulders as I wrapped my hand around him.

“So wet for me,” I growled as I pulled his lower lip between my teeth and suckled the swollen curve of it.

“Fuck, yes,” he moaned as he rocked in my hands, urging me to stroke him.

I did. He was like wet silk and steel in my hand as I slowly pumped it up and down his swollen shaft, relishing the feel of him in my grip—where he’d always meant to be. Fuck, he was so damn
perfect
.

I moved closer as I nipped across his jaw and wrapped my hand around the both of our lengths, bringing our cocks together.

“I want to spin you around, spread those tight cheeks of yours and fuck you hard. Claim and mark you so hard and deep you won’t be able to run from me again, like you did today.” He was hot and silky against me. Copious pre-cum bubbled up from our slits and leaked down our joined shafts, making the glide of my hand smooth and unhindered. “But I won’t last if I don’t do this first, and mark my words mate, I will make your claiming last. You might have forgotten me, but you will never forget the first time I take you.”

Hayden.
” He whimpered against my neck as I scraped my teeth against the rapid pulse beneath his ear and stroked faster. He rocked against me, urging me on with his breathy panting and clawing hands and I knew he was close. Could smell how close his release was. I felt my wolf chuff at his imminent surrender and then I was slanting my mouth back over his as I felt my balls draw up and his cock jerk in my hand.

I swallowed his cry as Tobias jerked and came in my hands, his nails digging into my skin as he splintered apart. I was close behind as I erupted between us, adding to the cum jetting up onto my chest and splattering onto Tobias’s top as I came hard. I wanted to watch him as he came, knew he’d be beautiful as he did so, but there would be time for that later. We were far from done.

I pulled my mouth off his and felt him drop his forehead to my shoulder as he tried to catch his breath. His body trembled in my hands. He let out a whimpering moan as I released him and pushed him back against the wall so I could relieve him of his top. I eyed the marks of his top in pleasure. The smell of my mate and our combined scents filled the tiny room and I could smell me on his skin.

I shucked off my pants and made him do the same before pulling him out of the bathroom. I didn’t bother to clean the cum off my chest. I was as much Tobias’s as he was mine and I liked his mark on me.

I looked around his room wishing we were back in my house on packlands with my large bed but this would have to do. I wasn’t going anywhere until I had claimed every inch of my mate. And I was going to do it over and over so he’d never forget it.

He tumbled down onto the bed as I pushed him over the side of it. I watched as he blinked and tried to sit up, but I was already lowering myself over him.

“What is it about you, mate, that makes me lose all self-control?” I asked roughly as his eyes glittered up at me, glazed and dark with arousal. “I want to take this slowly, make it sweet and make sure you feel all of me as I claim you, mark you, but we both know that’s not how our first time is going to go.”
