Impossible Glamour (22 page)

“I understand.”

She stood and leaned in and kissed my cheek. She whispered, “Don’t be scared Webber. I promise I’ll make it worth your while.”

A shiver rushed down my spine, and not the kind that made Big Boy want to come out and play. Nope. Instead it was the kind that made him hang limp beside my leg.

“Hello, Webber.”

My heart thumped in my chest. I knew that voice. I was perhaps in love with a woman related to that voice.

“Amanda!” I turned, grasped her, and pulled her into a hug. “Again, I ask you to save me.”

She pulled away but there was no smile like last time.

“What are you doing at L’Ermitage?” I asked.

“Client who is one of Rhiannon’s big collectors. She wanted to meet for a drink and how could I say no?”

“You couldn’t.” I turned toward Selena who had my elbow in her hand. “You’ve met Selena Gomez, partner at CTA.”

“I was so sorry to hear about your father, but he’s doing better, yes?” Selena asked.

“Much better.” Amanda hitched her purse higher on her shoulder and her cool gaze swept between me and Selena and lingered on Selena’s hand. “I just saw him. He’s home. My sister Sophia is with him. Ellen came by the house earlier.”

Did I hear emphasis on Ellen’s name? Hmm. How much, exactly, did Amanda know or think she knew?

“Webber and I were just leaving,” Selena said. “So good to see you again. Remind Sophia to call me, will you?”

“Of course,” Amanda answered. Her pointed gaze lingered on me. “Have a good evening.” She turned toward the far side of the bar where a woman stood and waved.

Selena moved in and pressed her lips closer to my ear. “Come on, Webzie, don’t leave. Let me show you my room.” Her hand trailed up my thigh and skirted over a lifeless and less-than-interested Big Boy.

I grasped her wrist. My gaze locked with Selena’s. “While that sounds like a remarkable offer, I can’t.”

Again the cold stare. I was flirting with the demise of my career. I could feel the vote slipping away. But I couldn’t. I couldn’t do this now and I doubted I could do this any other time as long as a relationship with Ellen was a possibility.

“Suit yourself, Webber. You have until Wednesday.” She clamped her hand to my ass. I nodded, removed my ass from her hand, and walked through the lobby and out the door. I handed the valet my ticket. I needed to get Agnes and get to Ellen’s, hopefully before Amanda called her little sister.

Chapter 20

Ellen

The doorbell rang at ten thirty. I opened the door and Agnes shot by me. She and Drummond raced around the living room like long-lost pals. They’d both been at Pawtown and rescued on the same day, so maybe they did remember each other. The dogs chased one another up and down the town house stairs.

“They look happy,” Webber said. He plopped a duffel bag on the floor next to the door and handed me a bottle of champagne.

Was he planning to stay for the entire weekend? I guess I wanted him to. No, I did—it was just my space was my space, and as an introvert I needed downtime on the weekends or I couldn’t survive the week. He leaned forward and kissed me. My worries slid from my mind, replaced by the heat firing in my belly.

“Want some champagne?” He liberated the bottle from my hand.

“Sure. Glasses are in the kitchen.”

He followed me into the kitchen, and I pulled two glasses from the cabinet while he worked on uncorking the bottle. I pulled out a chill bucket and filled it with ice. One of the perks of having a runway model as a sister, we had all the necessities for champagne.

“Sorry I’m late. I had a meeting with one of the partners.”

I held the champagne glasses closer to the bottle as he pulled out the cork. “Same one I saw fondling you in Santa Barbara?”

Pop!

Champagne bubbled over the lip of the bottle and I caught the liquid in the glasses.

Webber placed the bottle in the ice bucket. “As a matter of fact, it was the same partner.” His cheeks blushed.

I clinked his glass to mine and took a long sip.

“She wants me to sleep with her for her yes vote on the partnership committee. I have to do it before Wednesday.”

I choked and coughed and wiped off the champagne that had spilled out of my mouth. So hot. “Wednesday? Isn’t that illegal?” And also an idea that caused my heart to ache.

He pulled a hand towel from the refrigerator door and handed it to me.

“Illegal but not uncommon. It’s her thing. I think she’s slept with all the new partners in the past three years.”

My belly churned. “Seriously?”

He nodded. “I have every vote I need except for two. Jeff will cover the one I don’t get with some little bribe, but he won’t cover two. Or so he said.” Webber took a swallow of his drink.

“Who’s the other partner?”

“Gregory, the agent who wanted your dad’s company to option his client’s books. That didn’t happen.”

“The discretionary fund,” I mumbled. “Our first night.”

“Don’t bring that night up.” Webber gazed at the ceiling but reached out and pulled me to him.

“You’ve lived that one down. Big Boy has some serious moves.”

He leaned forward and kissed me. His hand slid down my arm and over the silk camisole I’d stolen from Sophia’s room. Webber pulled back.

“This is pretty sexy for you,” he said and eyed the two-piece sleepwear I’d copped from my sister.

My stomach tumbled and embarrassment cascaded through my chest. My usual sleepwear was a ripped T-shirt and dirty sweatpants.

“Me likey.” He kissed me again.

Heat thrummed through me. He put his glass on the counter and put both his arms around me. I weaved my fingers through his hair and his kiss deepened. Desire swept away my worries about Webber and the partner he needed to bed. My mouth opened and his tongue pressed and twined with mine. God, yes please. This was what I wanted. He plucked my champagne glass from my hand and set it on the counter, then put his arms beneath my legs and hoisted me into his arms.

“We’re taking this upstairs.” He skirted around Drummond and Agnes, who’d curled up into a yin and yang symbol on Drummond’s downstairs bed. They barely lifted their heads as we swept by on our way up the stairs.

“You’re pretty strong for guy who sits at a desk all day.”

“Babe, I work out. Like seriously work out. This weekend you’re going with me.”

“Uh, no.”

Webber kicked open my bedroom door. I’d spent the past hour picking up my mess. The room looked much different than the last time he was here.

“I can see the floor. Are you sure this is your room?”

“Ha-ha, funny guy.”

He leaned down and we both collapsed onto my mattress. A giggle escaped my lips but was quickly quieted by another kiss from Webber. This kiss was laced with hunger and need, possessive and hungry. His hand slid over my knees and he pulled my silky sleep shorts from my body. Then he took off my camisole.

He pulled his T-shirt over his head, and my lips found his nipple and pulled it into my mouth. I knew Webber worked out because his body was cut and chiseled and definitely did not belong on a desk jockey. He could pass for one of the action stars he represented. My hand slid through the fine hairs on his belly, down to the edge of his jeans. I popped open the buttons and he rolled them down over his hips.

“Commando, again?” I said through the kiss.

“Every time, babe, every time.”

I grasped Big Boy and pulled my hand up and then down over the silky skin. My hips bucked up without Webber touching me. His hand then drifted to my nipple and he teased it with his fingers.

“Webber, I want you. I want you now.”

His hand drifted down my belly and he pressed his fingertip to my clit and slipped a finger deep inside me.

“Babe, you’re already wet.”

“I was wet waiting for you. Please, Webber. I want you.”

His lips were hot on my neck as they trailed across my skin. My hand stroked up and down and I wanted him deep within me. He pressed forward and his lips suckled my nipple, his fingertip circling my clit. I reached to my nightstand and pulled open the drawer to grab the condom I’d stolen from Sophia’s room. He pulled back so I could open the foil package and roll the condom over his cock.

His fingers continued to circle my clit. Want. Desire. A deep need. His touch, his kiss, I wanted to feel him deep inside me. He rolled over and pulled me on top of him. My heart thundered in my chest. We hadn’t tried this position. For a moment, embarrassment cascaded through my chest. My entire body exposed. I was on top of Webber on my knees.

“Ellen, you’re beautiful.” He reached up with both hands and cupped my breasts, running his hands around them, his thumbs then stroking my nipples. Big Boy was hard and thick beneath my sex. I rubbed forward and back, the feeling of his shaft against my clit and his hands stroking my breasts a nearly unbearable pleasure. I lifted myself onto my knees. Webber moved one hand from my breast and slowly circled my clit.

“Oh yes,” I whispered. I opened my eyes and met his gaze.

“Ellen, you are so damn sexy.”

Me? Sexy? There was truth in his eyes. Webber thought I was sexy, and when I was with him, I felt sexy. I leaned forward and grasped Big Boy in my hands, slowly inching my way down over his head, letting his thickness stretch me. Webber’s jaw clenched. I stopped just as the head of his cock was inside my entrance. Webber continued to stroke my breast and with his other fingertip he circled my clit. I wanted him. I slid down his entire shaft.

“Fuck yes, Ellen,” he hissed out, his eyes wide. I slowly pulled my body up and to the end of his cock and then stroked back down. I licked my lips and again stroked up and down. Faster I wanted, I needed. Webber’s lips parted and his eyes remained locked on mine. I looked down and saw where our bodies connected. Heat thrummed through my blood. God yes, I wanted him. Fast and faster—getting so close to the edge.

“Ellen, oh my God, Ellen. Baby yes.”

My muscles tightened around his shaft and a tiny moan slipped from between my lips.

“Webber,” I hissed out. “Oh my God, Webber, I’m going to come.”

“Come, baby, come for me.”

My entire body tensed, and I plunged down and back up, faster and faster and faster. Until the edge was right there. Webber’s finger whispered over my clit, and with a shriek from my lips we both fell into the pleasure.

Webber

Her body was magic. She was magic. Ellen lit me on fire and made me feel and want and need. She lay in my arms and I pressed my lips to her forehead. She was finally asleep. Worn out. A smile crept across my lips, a tiny bit of pride through my chest, that I had given her pleasure, multiple bouts of pleasure, since we’d tangled the sheets in her bed.

Damn. My gaze drifted down that perfect body. But I’d had many beautiful bodies beside me and not wanted them like I wanted Ellen. She was more than just her looks, her brain, or her last name. She was Ellen. This amazing woman that I sure as hell didn’t deserve but wanted in my life. I glanced across the room and her clock read five a.m. I heard the pitter-patter of feet on stairs and soon saw two noses edging their way into the bedroom. Agnes and Drummond were too polite to jump on the bed. I pulled myself from Ellen’s side and walked down the stairs, opened the back door, and let Agnes and Drummond out into the tiny backyard. I checked my phone while I waited. Too many texts. Nearly a dozen from Jeff.

Damn. They weren’t good. Selena was pissed. Pissed and completely blocking my bid for partner. I pressed my hand to my forehead. Fuck, I either took the shitty salary they were offering and made a play for partner after three more years or left with my list of clients and tried to find a gig at another agency in town. I shook my head. Jeff wanted a sit-down tomorrow at his house. He’d lower the boom there—either fuck Selena or kiss my partnership good-bye.

Well, fucking Selena was out of the question. My heart belonged to the amazing woman upstairs who waited for me in her bed. Doggy nails scratched the back door and I let both pups inside. Yep, so what to do next? Not in my nature to give up, totally not what I wanted to do. But, hell, what were my choices?

“Hey, you okay?”

I looked up from my phone. With the moonlight cascading through the windows of the town house, Ellen looked like an angel. Outlined with a silver light, that black hair tousled and thick, swollen lips, her naked body—damn, that body. Pure perfection and built for sin.

“I’m good,” I said and smiled. I walked to her and pulled her into my arms, our naked flesh pushing together. “What are you doing up?”

“I woke up and you were gone. I didn’t like it.”

“I’d never leave you.” The pups tippity-tapped by and toward Drummond’s doggie bed. “These two needed to go out.”

She nodded. She glanced toward my phone in my hand. “Everything okay?”

What could I tell her? She already knew the dealio and there was no way I was sleeping with Selena. “Jeff wants me to come by his place and have a sit-down tomorrow afternoon.”

“Bad news?”

“Not sure yet,” I lied. Her gaze dropped toward the ground and I pressed my fingertips to her chin. “Hey, what’s wrong?”

“You aren’t…” Her words drifted away as though she couldn’t ask what she wanted. She glanced up at me and her gaze met mine. “Are you going to sleep with her? The partner? To get your partnership?”

My heart hammered in my chest. In Ellen’s eyes were fear and sadness and confusion. I pulled her tight into my arms. “Ellen, babe. No, I’m not going to sleep with her.” I pulled away and stared into Ellen’s eyes. “Not sleeping with anyone but you, hopefully for the rest of my life.”

A tiny smile curled up over her lips. “Webber, I…I don’t want to mess up your career. I know with Daddy and your clients and becoming a partner—”

“Shh, Ellen, you are not messing up my career. Hollywood is a fucked-up place, we both know that. But you? You are the best thing that could happen to me. Okay? So no matter what happens with Jeff or Selena or CTA, you are not the person who is messing anything up. You are the person who is making my life better each day.”
