Kings of Awakening Vampires and Purebloods (2 page)

Blood dripped from Albedo’s nose and mouth. The joy on their faces sickened him. He watched the look on Gregory’s face and it reminded him that they used to be friends. It all changed when a new girl came to the school. Her name was Anita and she was quite beautiful. Gregory had his eyes on her, but she had her eyes on Albedo. When Gregory found out and confronted her about it, she told him Albedo was sweeter and warmer. When Gregory confronted Albedo, he said he wanted nothing to do with her. He was telling the truth. She was not the kind of girl he liked. She was shallow and her attitude resembled Gregory’s. Everyone in school knew that Gregory’s character was not his best traits. Somehow, Albedo had found a way to accept that and welcome his friendship.

A couple weeks passed and no one heard from Anita again. When anyone asked, Mrs. Marty said her parents needed her at home. As their friendship grew, Albedo told Gregory about his fascination with vampires. Gregory also had a liking for them. When the other students found out, they slowly started distancing themselves from Albedo and Gregory, even laughing at them. Gregory began avoiding Albedo out of fear of rejection. As time passed, he grew into a bully. Albedo never asked him what happened to their friendship. He had come to the conclusion that this was his way of shielding himself.

“That’s enough!” shouted Mrs. Marty.  As she walked down the hallway; she gave Albedo a look as if to say, I warned you. “All of you outside now. Mr. Albedo in my classroom now!” she ordered him.

Albedo had taken many punches. He walked slowly behind her. She had taken her sweet time to stop the fight.  She was watching from the beginning, enjoying every moment of his agony.

“Young man, what am I going to do with you?”

His eyes did not meet hers as he sat at his desk. She had blown out the candles, since the sun had finally revealed itself.

“You used to be such a good child and now you give me nothing but problems.”

Albedo’s eyes were at the floor. He knew that Mrs. Marty had no intention of punishing Gregory and his friends. After all, he was her son and she had never punished him before. He could have set the school on fire and she would not say a word to him.

“You and my son used to be best friends. It breaks my heart to see you like this.” Her eyes showed no sorrow for him, only bitterness.

Her lectures felt like tortured.

“He started it,” mumbled Albedo. “Not me.”

“G
o and close the door Mr. Albedo,” She said unpleasantly.

Albedo
closed the door and turned around. Mrs. Marty had a whip in her hand. He knew the procedure as he went and stood in the corner with his arms crossed above his head.  As she whipped him repeatedly his body rocked and flinched in pain.  He didn’t cry.  He grew numb from the lashes as he lost count of how many times she spanked him. Albedo was a friendly and congenial young man and most of what bothered other people would not faze him. What a witch this teacher was, punishing him after getting hurt so badly. He thought about telling the head of the school, but he couldn’t. Her family owned the school.  She had managed to hit him in his face and it swelled. When she stopped, he sat down in the corner of the classroom and fell asleep.

School finally let out for the day. Albedo walked home alone as usual, ignoring the other students staring at him. It was just another day of school to him.  His house was just up the mountain. From there if he looked down he could see the old ruined castle from far away. It was abandoned a long time ago. He wasn’t sure what happened. The path in the valley leading to the mountain was long and wide.

Beautiful, sweet smelling cherry blossoms lined the road. The wind blew on his skin welcoming him home. As long as he could remember, the cherry blossoms had never stopped blooming and they were as beautiful as ever. Albedo was exhausted so he stopped for a moment and rested his head on a large branch on the side of the road. There was nothing more he could ask for. He stretched his hand toward the sky as if he could grab the moon. This was the most artistic scene he could imagine. Nothing in the world could ever come close to its beauty. The red moon was as beautiful as the cherry blossoms and the nice breeze kept him company. The rich smell of the cherry blossoms entered his body and the scent was so powerful that it put him to sleep.

A few hours quickly passed and he awoke to the growling sound of an angry animal.
I wonder what that was,
he thought.

The sun hovered over the horizon and the warm breeze had shifted to cold. He realized it was time for him to get going.

“I hope mother will not be angry with me,” he said to himself.

The atmosphere changed as
he walked further up the mountain. The cherry blossoms he loved so much were now down the hill. Walking deep in the mountain was dangerous for a young man. It wasn’t uncommon for people to go missing and if anyone unfamiliar with its surroundings would surely get lost. Albedo and his family were probably the only ones living there, though people in the town would often to go up and see the cherry blossoms. However they knew how dangerous it was. Wild animals were known to be violent.

Two years ago, a young couple had gone up to the mountain for a nice romantic scene. Three days later, their bodies were found. The villagers were petrified but not surprised once they found out what happened. This was not the first time this happened and it would not be the last.

The sky grew darker and Albedo could have slept for hours without waking up. For some reason, he was never afraid of the mountain. He was once lost in it for three days. There was not one scratch on him when his parents had found him.

As Albedo continued his walk home, the wind slowly passed his ear, as if to say he was not alone. He was deep in the mountain now, where lots of trees made it their home. He suddenly heard a noise. It was definitely not the sound of the wind. It was something different. In a great distance, Albedo could see a baby cub lift its head and cry. Her feet were stuck under a large branch. It was the most sorrowful and soul-touching cry he had ever heard. Albedo came closer and stopped. He looked around to see if its mother was around. The last thing he wanted to do was startle the mother.
Good, the mother is not around, I can hurry it up and help him
.

As he lifted the branch off the baby bear’s foot, he realized it was quite heavy. He was still a
young man and had no muscle. His frail arms were as weak as his knees.

As the baby cub cried some more, Albedo could feel strength rising out of the ashes within him. The despair and weakness from the cub gave him just enough strength to lift it.

“You’re alright now,” he said proudly. “I got it off of you.”

What is this feeling?!
At that very moment, Albedo could feel something swigging toward his head; it was more a sense than a feeling and a faint voice telling him to move.
Did I just hear a person’s voice?
At the very last moment, he dodged it. A piece of his hair however was torn off. He could see it flying around him,
this could have been my head
, he thought.

A big black bear let out a loud roar. Albedo could feel the leaf on the trees shaking with fear. This was by far the biggest bear he ever seen in his life, maybe the king of the mountain. This roaring was not unfamiliar to him, nights he had heard the same sound over and over as he slept. He had always wondered what type of beast could make such a sound and now he was staring at it face to face. Albedo slowly started crawling back to a tree. He fell down in fear
. Is that what I think it is? I can’t die now, not today.

The bear slowly walked towards him.
Albedo thought about running, the bear would surely catch up to him; his only option was to fight back. The bear now ran towards him. It swung its claws. Albedo dodged once again. His only advantage was his size; the tree behind him was cut in half. The bear’s claws were as vicious as her look.
What now
? He saw a stick on the ground. Albedo grabbed the stick and hit the bear on its back, which only made her angrier. The baby cub was still on the other side, watching with its bright brown eyes. The mother charged once again. Albedo backed up, but he fell on his back again. Now the bear had him where she wanted him. She stood up on her feet, her claws ready to devourer him. The loud roar brought goose bumps to his skin; this was the end for Albedo!
Today has been one of the worst days of my life, but it can’t end now
.

She went for the kill; this was the fastest and strongest wild animal Albedo had ever encountered. As its claws were about to devourer Albedo’s face, his eyes meet her eyes in intensity; a single word came out of Albedo’s mouth. “Stop!” with no hesitation the bear stopped; its claw was less than an inch from his face.

Albedo’s expression had changed; it was as if he was a different person. The bear took a couple steps back; it was obvious to Albedo that the bear was now afraid of him. It was whimpering and shaking.
It’s afraid of me now
.

She lowered her head, making herself as small as she possibly could, her eyes not wanting to meet Albedo’s gaze in fear of him. The bear grabbed her cub by its neck and disappeared in the woods.  Albedo held his shivering body as it had gotten colder.

“What was that just now, I don’t know why but I felt an urge to kill her?” He quickly got up and ran as fast as he could.

Albedo opened the door to go in the cabin-house; his mother was sitting at the kitchen table. Their house was two stories with five bedrooms, two bathrooms, and two kitchens. His room was on the second floor; by his window was a tree that he loved to climb. The cabin was in the middle of the forest; his father had built it himself.

“I told you about coming home late. I have been worried sick about you,” said his mother with an upset tone.

She was a beautiful woman, very elegant too. Albedo admired her very much, she was extremely intelligent and her voice was magnificent. Albedo had never seen any women come close to his mother’s beauty.
Albedo always wished he had those beautiful green eyes his mother had. She had rich long green hair that reached to her back.

She looked at him in astonishment, “What happened to your face? Did you get into another fight at school?!”

Albedo failed to remember the bruises on his face, how could he have forgotten to hide them from her?  “It’s nothing; I’ll go wash it off.”
What was that voice that told me to move out of the way back there? I feel like I heard it before.

She embraced him tightly by his arm and took him to the bathroom. She started to clean his face.  Her soft hand brushed through his hair removing the debris.  His pale skin was gone now thanks to the sun.

“Sometimes I want to kill that teacher,” in referring to the teacher. This time her tone was more relaxing.

Chapter 2

Enter the Black Reapers

I
t
was now the middle of the night, the king’s guard secures Inferno all day and throughout the night. Inferno was surrounded by a metal fence that runs all around it.  The humans were ensured that no vampires will cross into Inferno. The big gate behind the guards was made out of the finest steel. Only one way to get into inferno and this was it, the fence was too high for any vampires to climb up. Many guards circle around the fence protecting it, making it impossible to get in. They were equipped with crossbow, swords, knife and all sort of different weapons.

“It’s sure is dark tonight, its times like this that I wish I was home with the family,” said one of the guards in front of the gate.

It was a nasty, cold and gloomy night. The sky was dark, heavy rain poured from the clouds the night before, and the wind started whipping and howling. As they continued to talk amongst themselves, one of the guards started feeling light headed and collapsed on the ground.

“What happen!” asked the head guard.

One of his men responded, “I don’t know sir, he suddenly collapsed.”

As they examined their fallen man, another guard collapsed to the ground. The head guard no longer sees this as a coincidence; vampires don’t just suddenly fall. His men were now in a state of panic. The head guard quickly realized this was the work of someone; one after another, his men have started fallen.

“How is this possible? We’re under attack, but there’s nobody here!” said one of the men.

“Search for any suspicious signs or anyone!” ordered the head guard
.  Could this be the work of a Pureblood? No it can’t be. They would have to pass through the capital to get here.

As his men scattered in front of the gate, more men started to fall victim to this mysterious situation. Their panicking reached a critical stage.

“Men, hold it, all of you form a circle around me!” ordered the head guard.

Each had a spear in their hands, ready to strike the first blow as they formed a circle of defense. Two more on the left fell, slowly the circle started collapsing.

The head guard needed to act quickly. If this situation is what he believed to be, then he’s going to need help from the King.
Someone managed to sneak through the capital to get here, what are those guards doing, sleeping
? “Go to the castle and warn the King! We’re being attacked by an invisible enemy!” ordered the head guard to one of his men.
