‘Maybe if Dimitri comes up with you?’

‘Come on,’ he whispers in my ear. ‘You are brave. You can do it.’

If he wants me to do it, I’ll do it. His word makes all the difference.

I let him help me to my feet and lead me to the stage, avoiding all eyes, especially Anton’s. I won’t have to face them anyway. It’s not my face they want to see.

I am placed beside Trixietots, who is still bent over a chair. Dimitri runs a hand along my spine, pushing me gently into a forward inclination, less pronounced than Trixie’s, but still making my neck and head droop down. ‘I have to discuss Rosie’s bad behaviour with her.’

‘Eh, what?’ I protest.

‘You think this is a good way to behave?’ He raises an eyebrow at me. ‘Rosie, you just show your ass to the whole room. I am very disappointed. Now let’s go home and I will think of your punishment.’

He is evil, yet the best kind of evil. The kind I want.

‘Lucky girl,’ says Trixietots wistfully, as we walk out of the room.
