“Niceville, Florida, it really exists,” she said. “My dad was stationed all over the world as an Air Force pilot, but he ended up at Eglin Field so that’s where I went to high school. My parents still live there, my dad’s retired and they live in a house on Bluewater Bay, very ‘Ward and June Cleaver’… you would be bored to death.”

“I doubt that,” he said, “the international jet-setting life isn’t without its downfalls. Strange women come out of the wood-work to drug you, while nubile teenagers distract your iron-willed bodyguard.”

“Hey!” West said from somewhere in the back of the jet, and they all laughed.

A car drove them to the Banyan Tree resort and Maddie stood mesmerized on the verandah of the presidential guest house. Bly was behind her with his arms around her. He rested his chin on her shoulder and they gazed across the private infinity pool to idyllic view of sand and palm trees and bluer than blue ocean.

“It’s New Year’s Eve, we should dress up and go out for dinner and champagne,” he said, brushing her smooth, thick hair aside and letting his lips and tongue taste the back of her neck.

“Champagne sounds good, staying in sounds better,” she said, and she turned to face him and all the worrying if they were only about sex vanished, and was replaced by a raging desire and hunger for one another.

She took his hand and led him into the bedroom and when West knocked on the door, Bly called out loudly that unless it was a life or death situation to go away.

Maddie smiled at that, and ran her hands over the full, hard muscles of his chest and shoulders. She watched, wide eyed and aroused, as he removed his shirt then deftly unbuttoned hers.

As their hands touched hot skin they couldn’t wait and he lifted her onto the high bed and stripped away her jeans and lace panties. She moaned and fumbled with his zipper, as he looked deep into her eyes and his fingers moved between her legs. She gasped and arched toward him, and her hands shook and fell away from his half opened zipper and pulled his mouth to hers. She was so incredibly wet and ready she began to pulse under his fingers and cry out against his mouth, gasping as the orgasm tore through her. She pushed his jeans down on his hips and his massive cock sprang free, she groaned at the sight of it, and her legs moved farther apart, inviting him in.

“Sweet Maddie,” he whispered as they moved in perfect rhythm, and for her that was almost the greatest thrill of all. He said her name as if she were the only women in the world who mattered, and the name wasn’t Charlotte.

He devoured her as if he’d never had a woman, and she couldn’t tear her hands away from the sleek muscles of his chest, arms, back and incredibly hard ass. They kissed until their mouths were sore, and still they explored with their tongues and fucked until he was exhausted and she couldn’t wait for more.

Later in the night, just before they heard voices from other parts of the resort shouting “Happy New Year!” West knocked on the door again and said it was not a matter of life or death, but to open the damn door. Bly pulled on his jeans and flung the door open, ready to fire West’s ass on the spot.

“Happy New Year and happy birthday,” he said, and stood next to a linen draped cart holding a bottle of Cristal, and a birthday cake topped with topical flowers and blazing candles.

“Okay,” Bly said, smiling, “this is a nice surprise. Happy New Year, West, I hope this year is good to you.”

Maddie appeared next to him, wrapped in a resort robe, her eyes shone like dark jewels and strands of her pretty blonde hair clung to her damp, flushed cheeks.

“Happy birthday Alex, and happy, happy, brand new year!” She said, and she insisted West stay and drink a toast and have a piece of cake with them. Then she let him know with a glance that she and Bly needed alone time again and he left quietly, careful not to draw Bly’s attention away from Maddie.

“I can’t seem to keep away from you,” Bly said, as he pushed the robe off her slender shoulders, kissing them. “This isn’t just about needing and wanting sex, although I do want that now more than ever, but it’s something more than that.”

“Alex, I’m twenty-nine years old, a man can’t seduce me unless I want him to. I haven’t wanted that in a while, but believe me, I’m enjoying taking advantage of your insanely sexy body, and do mean
every
inch of it,” she said, and dropped the robe and walked outside. She walked down the pool steps, her curves silhouetted against the full moon, and he was out of his jeans in minutes, and he followed her lead. She swam to the far end of the pool with strong, practiced strokes, then he caught her as she swam back and held her against him. He lifted her, and she was weightless in the water as he settled her onto his cock. She gasped at the exquisite shock of his hot flesh against hers, the massive head pushing into her, a delicious invasion. Her arms wrapped around his shoulders, she was in love with the width and curve of them, and her hands traveled down the tensed muscles of his back and gripped his ass. She ground against him and he thrust into her until they both exploded and sank into the moonlit water.

“I have a flat in London, although I’m rarely home.” She said when they lay together in the tall, carved bed, her head next to his on the pillow. “It’s closer to the war zones that I cover for work, I miss being in the states, but I made the choice to be a war correspondent. I’m still not sure I did it for love of the job, or the love I thought I felt for a fellow journalist. Now he’s history and I’m not sure if I’m the one who chose this career. Meanwhile, my parents worry themselves sick that their only daughter has shrapnel wounds and even a small scar from a knife blade,” she said, moving his hand to the side of her neck and to her lower back.

He could feel the fine line left by the blade of a knife under her chin, and the series of pock-marks down low on her back. His fingers brushed over them, then he raised her chin so that their lips touched.

“I love the feel of your skin, and every curve of your body draws my hands like a magnet. I think you’ve bewitched me and I should run for my life after my last dealings with a woman. I don’t remember much of my time with her, just for the record, the drugs she used kept me pretty well out of it. Anyway, what about you, who led you into such a dangerous profession, and why are you still in it when you don’t seem to want to be?” he asked, cupping her small, heart-shaped ass, and wondering if he would be able to wait to hear her answer before they made love again.

“I met a photographer when I was in art school, years ago in Los Angeles, and I went with him to a photo shoot, and eventually I let him take over my life. He was doing the shoot to prove himself to Bly International, and if the layout was successful he got to pick any job he wanted at any magazine he chose. I went to the studio as his assistant and I stayed in the background because it was a closed set, and of course his genius as a photographer was evident. He became almost as famous as the quarterback and cheerleader on that magazine cover. What a surprise, huh? Yes, I was there that day, and I went because I wanted to see the handsome, untouchable man I’d heard so much about. I ended up hiding in the background because Alexander Bly was so obviously head over heels in love with the tall stunning cheerleader,” she said, and he stopped her.

“You were there? That’s been almost eight years ago, how could I have not seen you? I would have noticed your beautiful face and vibrant eyes, no matter what. How embarrassing for me, was it really that plain to see that I was…?” he asked, sick with himself that his infatuation with Charlotte had been so immediate and so clear to the whole world.

“Oh yeah, it was definitely etched on your face, and I realized my boyfriend had never looked at me that way, and it sort of messed with my mind. So I entered this stupid contest after that, to see whether or not I was a total loser. I won, and I was the Tropical Dream girl that year, and I stayed with Spencer and let him control my life. I followed him into ruined countries and dangerous situations, then he decided it wasn’t for him and he packed up and left. You know what? I didn’t miss him for long, and as for you, Alex Bly, you don’t have that tormented look anymore,” she said, and she raised herself above him to look down into his face. She wasn’t sure what her words would do to him, if they would send him into a tailspin. Send him back to the place where he patiently waited for Charlotte to love him.

“Spencer Beck, huh? He’s a big time society photographer now.”

“Yes, we broke up about two years ago.”

As she sat up and faced him, he lifted her onto his body and he lay beneath her, his hands tangled in her hair, and he was lost in the dark pools of her eyes.

“We both have baggage, people that we cared for, and shattered dreams from the past,” he said, “but you’re not my consolation prize, Maddie. Don’t even think that, I had never been in love before Charlotte. Maybe I fell so hard because I was twenty-eight years old and hadn’t suffered any teenage crushes, so I didn’t have anything to compare it to. But, it’s all done now, and if I just wanted someone for sex, I wouldn’t have brought you all the way to this island way out in the middle of the Indian Ocean. I would have just taken you to a Best Western on the bad side of town,” and he smiled, and he could feel his heart making room for her, leaving behind a dream that was never going to come true.

She leaned forward to kiss his entrancing mouth, then lowered herself onto his hard, huge cock. She watched his sea-glass colored eyes change, and a fire flamed in them as she moved her hips slowly. His hands were on her luscious, firm breasts, moving roughly over her pale nipples until her hands clawed at his chest. She shouted his name when she couldn’t hold back any longer, and he followed her, and their voices were swallowed up in the sound of the vast ocean outside the open doors.

They stayed on the island for ten days until Maddie said that her two weeks’ vacation was up and she had to return to London for work. Bly said he could certainly get her an extension, but she said no, no favors from the boss. He gave her a mischievous grin, and she pushed the stray lock of hair off his brow and said sexual favors didn’t count.

“They benefit both of us, I believe,” she said and kissed her way down his body as they lay by the pool.

“What about West?” he said as her hand slipped down the front of his swim trunks, and he glanced over his shoulder to make sure West couldn’t see them.

“Nope, I’m not doing favors for West, only for you,” she joked, and raised her eyes to meet his as she took him in her mouth.

“Very funny,” he said, just before his hands got lost in her shining hair and he began to groan.

She loved the taste and feel of his cock, the way it stretched her lips and filled her mouth and rammed against the back of her throat. He was the sexiest creature she’d ever imagined and she swallowed as he came, and she loved that feeling too. Loved him pumping into her, grasping her head or the chair or the bed, just holding on as he shuddered and surrendered to her mouth.

His cell phone lay on the table beside him, and it began to ring insistently.

“Fuck!” he shouted, still entranced by the look of ecstasy on her face as she licked the last drops from his cock and smiled up at him. He knew he was falling in love with her, and it thrilled him as much as it surprised him.

“Yes, this is Bly!” he yelled, “What? What are you talking about Mother? Let me call you back I’m busy… well then call West, let him deal with it!”

He stalked into the bedroom naked, holding Maddie’s hand, and she was laughing as she walked beside him.

CHAPTER FIVE

“Just think, Finnegan,” Charlotte said, she sat at Finn’s feet as he lay on the bed drinking a glass of champagne. “Last New Year’s Eve you were taking unimaginable liberties with a pregnant woman in an elevator, and a taxi, and several other places.” She crawled toward him, straddling his body with a naughty smile on her face. She was naked except for a pair of his white boxer briefs.

Her IPod was next to the bed, she tapped it a couple of times and Bobby Womack sang her favorite, special, sexy version of “California Dreaming.”

Finn pulled her mouth down to his and kissed her, and their tongues moved together as they tasted each other. He slipped his hand inside the underwear, and over her small, round ass and she squirmed and moaned.

“I demand you return my underwear immediately, if not sooner,” he said, and they both laughed so hard she fell onto the bed next to him, and they lay together, holding hands and smiling.

“Don’t make me laugh, I’m trying to seduce you, dammit!” she said, and he was on his knees, bending over her, pulling off her underwear and then his own.

“I don’t need to be seduced,” he said, taking her thighs in his hands and lifting her hips so that he plunged into her. “You’ve seduced me for the rest of my life, and right now I want to fuck you while the clock chimes midnight.”

She arched toward him, letting him hit that deep spot within her, squeezing her eyes shut at the first sharp pain of it.

“Look at me, my love,” he said, and she opened her eyes, “look at me when you cum, so I can watch the wicked pleasure on your face.”

She came then, so loud and so long that he followed her, and they didn’t move apart until sleep overtook them, and the New Year began.

Charles Tremont came to Dovecote Cottage for lunch on New Year’s Day, he came to check on his daughter and to visit his grandson and to have black-eyed peas for luck.

“I’m just saying it’s insane, how can a pea or a bean or anything you eat, determine your luck for an entire year?” Finn asked, as they sat at the kitchen table eating black-eyed peas and ham.

“It’s a Southern tradition, come on!” Charlotte said, kissing Atticus quickly as she passed by the highchair where he sat next to Finn. “What if the entire Manchester United season depended on whether or not you ate a black-eyed pea?”
