She cried out as she drowned in it.

When her paroxysms stopped, she lay limp. Kane stood still, breathing heavily. He sat slowly, and she slid off his back. Her thighs twitched as her knees sank into the forest loam. What was going to happen now? She didn’t think she could survive another ride.

Kane stood before her, human now, his chest glistening with sweat. Even now he had that commanding air about him, the expectation that he would be obeyed. She wished he would give her another order.

“Get down,” he said. “On your back.”

Her heart pounded as she lay on the ground. He knew what he wanted. What she needed. She spread her legs for him.

He moaned, which only made her throb harder. Then he was on top of her, his knees beside her hips.

“You don’t need these.” He ripped off her pants, then her shirt. She was bare before him, but somehow she felt no urge to cover herself.

“Yes,” he whispered, running a finger from her breast to her inner thigh. “This is what I’ve been waiting for.”

He kissed her neck, hard and insistent. Baring his teeth, he raked them across her flesh.

“Not that,” he said. “Not yet. You’ll be mine soon enough.”

Lia’s brain was clouded, but she saw something through the fog. Another white wolf, watching her. This wasn’t the way it was supposed to go, was it?

“What about Ronan?” she asked.

Kane bent low over her ear. “I don’t want to share.”

He put his weight on her, his cock pressing against her flesh. It was so hard, so hot, just like the rest of him. He was pure muscle, and having him on top of her made it hard to think of anything else. He licked her hardening nipple and the sensation swept all thoughts away.

The touch of his fingers on her skin was electric. They were calloused from years of hard use, but they brushed so softly against her. He traced her collarbone, her hips, the swell of her thigh. Lia arched her back, pressing against him. She wanted him to take her. She was his.

Kane ran his hand between her legs, parting her thighs, and she opened for him. His cock was so large, so thick, but she was too eager to be scared. She wanted him to enter her, to fill her, to own her.

His tip was white hot, like a brand. He placed it to her opening, then plunged in. She was so slick, so ready for him that it didn’t hurt at all. He was filling her, stretching her, but it wasn’t enough. She wanted more. She wanted all of him.

Lia wrapped her legs around his ass, pulling him closer. He thrust obediently, burying his cock so deep that she couldn’t breathe. But she needed him more than she needed air. She had been missing him all her life, and they needed to make up for lost time.

Kane pressed his face into her neck, his breath hot on her throat. He had her pinned with the weight of him, like prey finally caught by the hunter. Yet it was really she who had captured him, for she could enthrall him with the angle of her hips, make him thrust harder with a single moan. If she was his, then he was surely hers.

He growled as he pounded into her. His thrusts became wild as he drove into her with pure abandon. Kane was losing control, but so was Lia. Throwing her head back, she let him ravish her. He had lit a fire in her veins and it was rolling through her, scorching as it passed. There was no part of her that would be untouched by his burning lust. He possessed her to the core.

She was overwhelmed by his fire, his tremendous heat. He had set her ablaze, and nothing could quench the flames. She let out a keening cry as she gave into the spasms that rocked through her.

Kane slammed into her, letting out a guttural groan. He put a hand on her throat, the pressure light, but enough to prove that he owned her. He looked into her eyes as he came, driving into her until he had emptied himself. At last he collapsed on top of her, breathing hard, his back glistening with sweat.

“You will be my mate,” he whispered in her ear. “You are mine.”

Ronan emerged from the den to find Kane and Lia gone. He swore. This was Kane’s doing, it was always Kane. Couldn’t he keep himself in line for fifteen minutes?

He shifted, catching the scent of Kane’s wolf. Kane had shifted, then. And Lia had ridden him. The thought made his hackles rise.

There were other scents mixed in with the two of them, excitement and something he dared not name. But Kane had taken her. That’s what he had to remember. Kane had taken Lia, and Ronan had to save her.

He ran through the forest, his thoughts racing along. What was Kane doing to Lia? If his brother hurt her, Ronan would never forgive him. Or himself. He forgot all about what Flint had said, invaders and tracks and scents. This was far more important.

In the distance, he heard Lia cry out. He snarled, pushing himself to go faster. Kane was hurting her. Ronan had to protect her. The sounds of the forest faded. He strained for any hint of Lia.

If she would just hold on. He was almost there.

He broke through the trees and found them. Lia looked up at him, startled. Her hair was disheveled, and the smell of sex hung in the air. Kane’s hand was draped over Lia’s hip, claiming her as his own.

That was it. He was going to kill him.

With a howl of rage, Ronan lunged for Kane’s throat.

CHAPTER

1

“Goddamnit,” Cam said as he pulled up into his sister’s driveway. The front door was wide open, a stack of newspapers on the porch, their edges dry and crisp from the sun. Meaning no one had been home in a while.

He left his helmet on the seat of his bike and strode up the path, banging on the screen door. Trying the handle,  he found it locked. Not that a lock could stop him, but he’d rather not have to repair it for no better reason than overreacting.

Cam walked around the side of the house to where a big picture window gave a view of the kitchen straight through into the living room. His kid sister’s house was tiny, but it was warm and safe.  He’d paid the mortgage off so she didn't have to worry about a monthly payment. For the hundredth time Cam wondered if that had been a mistake. Maybe if Cecily had bills to worry about, she wouldn’t be such a fuck up.

He pressed his face to the window, cupping his hands to block out the sun. Sweeping his eyes through the living room, he saw her sprawled body lying still on the kitchen floor. Cursing, he ran around to the front and ripped the screen door of the hinges, already reaching in his pocket for his cell.

At her side in a few ground eating steps, he knelt, his wolf snarling and backing up from the rancid smell of vomit and unwashed woman in summer. He checked her pulse; faint but steady.

It would take more than an overdose to kill a werewolf.

“How’s she doing?” Rolf asked.

Cam’s hand clenched around the cell. Taking a deep breath, he relaxed a finger one at a time. If he shattered another phone he wouldn’t live it down for weeks. He’d promised after the last time that he’d try to get a hold of his temper.

“She woke up after they-” Cam stopped. Watching a once bright, warm little girl deteriorate into this brittle, empty eyed woman ripped his heart out. “But she’s still groggy. They’re gonna keep her here until she detoxes again.”

“You told them she’s a shifter?”

“Yeah.” They would have figured it out anyway after the blood work came back.

“She’ll get better, man. Take whatever time you need.”

Cam shook his head. “Nah, bro. I know you got shit going down with your mate. I got your back.”

“Cam, I’m telling you to take some time. Family first.”

“Your mate is family.”

Rolf was silent, then Cam heard the Alpha’s sigh. “Yeah, guess so. Still…”

“I just gotta take care of one thing, and then I’ll be there. Give me a few hours, okay?”

Rolf's tone sharpened. “What are you up to?”

“I’m gonna find the sonuvabitch that is selling my sister this shit, and persuade him, real nice like, not to do it again.”

Hayley’s problem was that by the time she saw the huge gray cloud overshadowing the itty bitty silver lining, it was too late to back out. The cash was good at first- she’d eaten her first real meal since her father kicked her out of the house off the profits. And since no one expected a shy, low rung runt of the litter like her to be peddling one of the most toxic narcotics to shifters, she could sell to people other dealers couldn’t and evade the cops. And the Alpha, who took a very public stance against any kind of drug use among his pack members.

Which was why Hayley was stuck. If she went to him for help, he’d help her all right. And as soon as he finished cleaning house, he’d turn on her, and Hayley didn’t expect she would survive the punishment. In most packs a female would be too valuable to waste, but since dominance passed through the maternal line she didn’t have much worth as a potential mate. No one wanted their pup to be born like her- at the bottom of the pack and nose blind to boot.

What had seemed at first to be a way out of a horrible situation had turned her life into a worse mess than it had started out to begin with. As soon as Oscar saw how profitable she was becoming, his cuts started to increase until she was allowed to keep just enough to live at poverty level.

She had even tried to get a regular job to make up the difference. Had found someone willing to hire her even though she could barely read from the dyslexia- why spend good money on tutors or therapy for a runt? But once her work hours started interfering with the crazy schedule her clients kept for drop offs, her profits decreased.

The beating she’d gotten from that little fiasco still gave her shudders. Oscar had told her she could keep her job- but if her clients went to another dealer she would be punished. And she could make up the lost profits out of her paycheck. Which meant she’d be working to give Oscar money and regular entertainment. She’d seen the bulge in his pants and the sparkle of excitement in his eyes when he beat her. Hayley counted herself lucky she hadn’t wound up raped and always wondered what had stopped him from going there in the first place.

“I don’t think it's possible to double my production in three weeks, Oscar,” she said in a reasonable tone to the wolf with a hand around her throat.

He pressed her against the flimsy wall of her trailer. A little more force and there would be a dent in it she couldn’t afford to repair. He’d banged through the squeaky screen door while she was washing her one chipped plate and thrift store mug, about to put together a bologna sandwich for dinner.

“Oh yeah?” Oscar’s face darkened. It wasn’t much of a face, but it was all he had. Hayley supposed she’d be a shit drug dealer too if she were as ugly as him.  It was his only excuse.“It’s possible if I say it’s possible.”

Was he insane? That would mean looking outside the pack for new clients. She’d already saturated the market here, and unless she started selling to kids, there was no one left she could peddle the stuff to. And she wasn’t about pull a sleaze move and hook any decent people just to make more money. It was her one rule: no kids, and no people who had decent lives that could be fucked up. Her clients tended to be too far gone to save.

“I’ve already got everyone who buys in this market buying from me. There isn’t anyone left. It’s not possible.”

“Is it possible I can ram my cock up your ass? Is it? Might hurt at first, but after a while, it would go in real easy like.”

“I believe that threat is uncalled for,” she replied, cringing a little. Her muscles tightened in reflex and she forced herself to go limp when his wolf peeked out of his eyes, sensing prey.

“It wasn’t a threat, bitch, it was a promise. My boss thinks there’s more money to be had in this sector, so you’re going to go have the money. I don’t care if you have to waltz into fucking Lykaon territory- double your production in three weeks, or me and my boys will be paying you a visit.”

Hayley lowered her eyes, unmoving. He released her with a kick at the wall next to her ankle. She waited until she heard the roar of his bike and sprang into action. Looked like she’d be taking her chances in another territory. At least if her throat was torn out for being where she had no permission to be the death would be quick.
