always wanted to travel and write. He managed to get the traveling part down long before the writing part came. Following graduation from Queens’ College, Cambridge University, Morgan moved to London, where he states that his dreams of being a successful novelist were “cut down to size.” Morgan says, “About the only worthwhile thing I did in London that year was cultivate a taste for Thai and Japanese cuisines, Jack Daniel’s on ice, and Islay single malts. None of which I could really afford. It was time to leave.” After four weeks of training as an English-language teacher, he found himself in Istanbul. Then it was back to London, then Madrid, and finally Glasgow, where he secured a university post. Fourteen years after his initial foray to London, his first novel,
Altered Carbon,
was purchased for publication. Shortly thereafter, Hollywood optioned the book for the movies. He is now a happy, full-time writer with the means to write and travel when he wants to (which is usually). His well-received second novel,
Broken Angels,
featured Takeshi Kovacs, the imperfect protagonist from
Altered Carbon. Market Forces
is his third book.

BROKEN ANGELS

“What distinguishes Morgan’s second novel is his persuasive reimagining of the familiar as filtered through the character of Kovacs, a disillusioned superman who carries his own kryptonite around with him.”

—The New York Times

“Morgan’s SF–hardboiled hybrid, the sequel to the well-received
Altered Carbon,
bursts with energy and intelligence. . . . It all adds up to a superior, satisfying cyberpunk noir adventure.”

—Publishers Weekly

“A lively follow-up to an energetic debut, with a still refreshingly cynical hero.”

—Booklist

“Scottish author Richard K. Morgan’s second novel is another dazzling fast ride in a nasty, violent future. . . . Hard-boiled style with human intrigue and alien mysteries make
Broken Angels
engrossing reading.”

—The Denver Post

Broken Angels
is clearly the work of a gifted, ambitious storyteller.
Morgan’s prose is clean and direct, his characters almost uniformly hard-edged, his future convincing, well conceived, and decked out with an almost limitless array of technological marvels.”

—The Washington Post Book World
