After practice, Jake went with the guys to the shower rooms and while the girls waited for him outside, Mae talked about a party another senior invited her to later tonight and wanted Sarah to come with.

“Come on, it’ll be fun! The first and last party you’ll ever attend in high school! Isn’t that exciting?” Mae asked. Sarah shook her head.

“No,” she replied, making Mae pout and hit her shoulder.

“Don’t be such a--,” Mae never got to finish her sentence because Jake had come out of the locker room fully clothed, but arguing over someone on the phone; his face a little red from frustration. The girls looked at each other, slightly worried while Jake waved his hand, as he argued with the person on the other line.

“I’ve only been here for six hours, Kimberly! My sister’s graduation is next week. What the fuck are you talking about?” Jake said; his eyes moving left to right, as he listened to the person on the phone. His face changed into a look of outrage at what he heard, and then he said, “I’m not going to pick you over my fucking family, Kimberly! Get over yourself!”

He looked at his phone furiously before looking up at Sarah and Mae. “She hung up on me,” he muttered incredulously, and Mae rolled her eyes as she snorted.

“She’s a bitch. I don’t even know why you put up with her,” Mae said. Jake’s eyes narrowed at his sister, but she shrugged it off and walked ahead of them. Sarah didn’t know whether to follow Mae or wait for Jake, but he nodded his head to her, so she walked beside him.

“Sorry you had to see that,” Jake whispered, and Sarah shook her head.

“It’s okay,” Sarah reassured him. “Trouble in paradise?” she asked, and Jake shook his head, sighing.

“She wants me to come back to campus already. She said she misses me,” Jake grumbled. “But, I’ve only been gone a day! I told her I’d be here until Mae’s graduation day, so why all this drama?”

Sarah’s heart leaped as Jake told her he’d be here for their graduation ceremony, but managed to give him a rueful smile.

“Why didn’t she just come with you then?” Sarah asked; making Jake raise an eyebrow at her.

“Do you really think Mae is going to appreciate the fact that I brought my girlfriend to one of the most special days of her life?” Jake asked in return, and Sarah laughed.

“Yeah, I see your point,” she said.

“And I just realized that it’s going to be your special day too, right?” Jake said, smiling at her. “Are you and my sister still going to do the music route?”

“Yeah, I’ll be majoring in Music Composition though. Mae is going to take Performing Arts,” Sarah explained, feeling her cheeks heat up.

“I just realized that I haven’t even heard you play the piano,” he said, and Sarah’s eyes widened.

“You’d…you’d want to hear me play?” Sarah asked. Disbelief was apparent on her face that Jake looked a little offended.

“Tell you what, since Little Miss Priss is already on her way to ditching us for the party, why don’t we sneak over to the empty auditorium and you can show me what you got,” Jake said.

He grabbed her hand and they ran for the auditorium; Sarah hoping that the thumping of her heart only sounded loud in her ears.

“I got to admit, I’ve never really ventured into this part of campus before,” Jake said; looking around at the auditorium as Sarah nervously set herself up on the piano bench. She tapped the keys a little before looking up at him.

“What do you want me to play?” Sarah asked, and Jake shrugged.

“Anything you feel like. It won’t matter to me,” Jake replied, and he quickly retracted his statement when he saw her face fall. “I mean, it won’t really make a difference to me whatever piece you play. I’m sure it’ll still sound amazing,” he amended.

Sarah bit her lip, as she looked at the piano keys before nodding her head. She gently placed her trembling hands on top of the keys, took a deep breath, and played.

The piece she played was beautiful, tragic, and melancholic. It sent shivers down Jake’s spine that he never knew was even possible for a guy like him, and it amazed him that he got such a reaction only a few bars into the song. His eyes went in a haze, as his mind conjured up an illusion around Sarah; circles and wisps of color falling softly over the sight of her that Jake couldn’t help but gasp.

He hadn’t noticed how incredibly beautiful Sarah Matthews was until that moment.

Sarah was determined to not get distracted by him, and poured her focus on the piece, unconsciously setting off her emotions again and transferring it to the music, not because she was his sister’s best friend, but because she was herself.

The final note resonated and their eyes connected at the same time; both breathing heavily, though they weren’t sure why. Jake walked over to Sarah’s seat, never breaking eye contact until he was standing right beside her. He raised his hand to cup Sarah’s cheek; his fingers feeling her skin softly and making Sarah sigh.

He lowered his head to hers and she closed her eyes.

Suddenly, a door boomed, making the both of them jump.

Mae huffed as Sarah and Jake turned to look at her standing outside the door; her hands at her hips as they looked at them in annoyance.

“There you are! Geez, talk about leaving me in the dust,” Mae said, and Jake and Sarah both looked at each other for a second before awkwardly turning away. Sarah’s cheeks turned crimson, as she recalled their almost kiss.

“Let’s go, pipsqueak,” Jake grumbled, walking away from Sarah and pushing Mae out of the room. Mae turned back and looked at Sarah weirdly before following after him.

Sarah sighed.

‘Sometimes Mae, you just have the worst timing,’ she thought.

The music was blaring from the speakers and it was starting to hurt Sarah’s ears, as she squeezed through the crowd of students dancing and drinking around the large living room. She had once again lost sight of Mae when Sarah told her she was going to the bathroom, and Mae replied she was just going to get a drink. Sarah had gone over to the beer kegs, but Mae wasn’t anywhere there.

Jake seemed to have disappeared right after they arrived as well, leaving Sarah to wonder if their almost-kiss made him feel awkward, so now, he was trying to avoid her. Sarah hoped it was not the case.

Fortunately, she spotted Jake outside of the house; walking back and forth as he plugged one ear with his finger and held a phone in his other ear. He was probably talking with his girlfriend again and, judging by the look on his face and the way he was practically spitting his words out, they were arguing heatedly over something. Sarah was about to walk toward him, but decided against it, choosing to stay close and within his line of sight instead.

“If he wasn’t avoiding me, then he can just come and talk to me,” Sarah thought.

A few minutes later, he ended the call, muttering to himself as he put his phone back in his pocket. He turned back toward the house, missing Sarah as he searched for the beer. He spotted the beer kegs and walked over to them.

Sarah followed Jake with her eyes, getting worried as he downed one red solo cup after another. Mae was still nowhere to be found and Sarah didn’t know if she would be able to hoist Jake by herself to their car if he got too drunk.

Suddenly, he turned and caught Sarah’s stare and lugged himself over to her, plopping himself over the couch she was sitting on, and then he sighed. Sarah’s brows furrowed, as she noted the slight blush in his cheeks from drinking a lot.

“Jake, are you--,” Sarah started, but he cut her off.

“She left me,” Jake whispered. Sarah leaned closer to him, straining to hear what he was saying over the loud music.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that,” she said.

“She left me,” he said louder, and Sarah’s eyes widened.
“Kimberly broke up with me on the phone, just like that.” He snapped his fingers to emphasize his point, and she put her hand on his shoulder, patting him comfortingly.

“I’m sorry, Jake,” she said, but Jake shook his head, slouching and putting his elbows on his knees, as he looked angrily at a spot on the carpet.

“I don’t understand why she’s acting like that. It’s not like I’m cheating on her or anything. I’m just spending time with my family for crying out loud!” he said.

Sarah was about to tell him that she wasn’t family, but decided against it, instead choosing to go a different route in comforting him.

“I can’t really say anything since I don’t want to pry, but,” she took a deep breath before she continued. “She’s probably just being paranoid because you’re somewhere she can’t see you. She doesn’t want to lose you, and add that to the fact that she’s all alone over there…,” she trailed off.

Sarah didn’t like where she was going with her explanation because it was like she was actually defending his girlfriend’s reasons for being the way she was about Jake staying here, but she was not the kind of person to wish ill toward them, even if she was really in love with that person’s boyfriend.

“You’re saying I should be patient with her because she’s all alone back there while I’m out here with family,” Jake finished for her, and Sarah nodded reluctantly. He leaned back on the couch again, smiling at Sarah wryly; his eyes a little hazy from alcohol, as he reached for a lock of her hair and twirled it around his finger.

“You give her too much credit, Sarah,” he said, and Sarah looked down at her hands, so she wouldn’t look at him. “Kimberly and I have been fighting for a while now, even when I’m there with her. I think this breakup’s been a long time coming.”

Sarah looked up; surprised at Jake’s words. Did he really mean what she thought he meant?

“Have you been thinking about breaking up with her for a while, Jake?” Sarah said softly.

Jake merely looked at her in silence for a few moments, as Sarah waited for him to answer. He then leaned closer to her; his breath tickling her neck as his lips brushed the lock of her hair he kept trapped between his thumb and forefinger. His eyes became heated as he spoke.

“I’ve been thinking about you, Sarah, and how I think you’re really beautiful right now,” he said, and Sarah gasped, moving away from him a little to look at him partly in surprise and partly in disbelief.

“That’s not a funny joke, Jake,” Sarah said firmly; trying to contain her heart as it beat faster in her chest. Jake tilted his head.

“Who said I’m kidding?” he asked, and Sarah shook her head enough to pull the lock of her hair away from his grasp.

“Stop it,” Sarah whispered; turning away from him. “Don’t tease me,” She couldn’t bear it if he was. Granted, she’d waited so long for him to say such things like that, but if he was merely saying them because he was lonely or because he was drunk, then she didn’t want those words.

The smile on Jake’s face disappeared, as he turned Sarah’s head toward him, making her look at the intensity of his eyes and taking her breath away. He leaned closer to her until their faces were just a hairsbreadth away from each other.

“Maybe I should put it in terms you understand,” he whispered back before he closed the distance between them and kissed her.

Sarah’s eyes widened as Jake’s mouth worked on hers; his tongue forcing its way into her mouth. Sarah moaned as his tongue touched hers and she grabbed at his shoulders tightly, as he kept kissing her.

She closed her eyes and felt her heart beat faster and faster until she thought it would burst. Jake encircled his arms around her, as he deepened the kiss and Sarah could do nothing but let him explore the caverns of her mouth.

He pulled away from her abruptly and Sarah opened her eyes. His blue eyes darkened with lust, as he looked at her slightly swollen lips. He grabbed her hand, as he stood up and began to pull her through the crowd, Sarah struggling to keep up with him. He turned to the stairs and began climbing up, and Sarah’s heart leapt, as she realized where he was taking her, and where they were about to end up unless she stopped him.

But, she didn’t want to stop him; not right now when it took so long to get here. She wanted this. She’s wanted it for a long time.

Jake opened one of the doors slightly and peeked in. It was empty. He pushed open the door and pulled Sarah inside the room. He started to kiss her fervently; his hands creeping all over her body, as Sarah wrapped her arms around his neck, relishing the moment.

Jake slowly turned her around and walked forward while still kissing her, forcing Sarah to walk backward toward the bed. Her knees hit the edge and she started to fall down. Jake placed his arms on her back to break her fall, bracing his knee on the edge of the bed, as he pulled Sarah over the mattress. He laid her down gently before leaning his weight over her; his knee nudging her legs apart and feeling the heat coming from her core. He lowered his mouth and started nipping at her jaw, going down to her neck, and she snapped her fingers through his hair, pushing his face closer to her skin.

His other hand found its way to her breast; squeezing it a little and making Sarah arch her back upward with a gasp. Jake groaned, as he realized Sarah wasn’t wearing a bra, and his fingers went to the hardening bud of her nipples and pulled until Sarah cried out.

He got up and pulled his shirt over his head; watching her as her eyes swept over the rippling muscles of abs, as well as his pelvic muscles showing from the low rise of his jeans. He saw the slight bob in her throat, as she explored his body with her eyes, but he wanted more from her. He took her hand, holding it by her wrist, and guided it to her chest, letting her fingertips brush against his skin. He felt her pulse quicken, as she shivered and he shook his head at her.

“Don’t be afraid,” Jake whispered, and Sarah looked at him nervously. He moved on top of her again and kissed her softly; taking her mind off of her nerves. Her hands crawled up his back, feeling his skin and his warmth. Jake groaned; deepening their kiss, as his hand roamed over her body, moving downward to the top of her jeans and removing the clasp. Sarah gasped as she felt his hand creep inside her pants and cup her mound, his fingers pressing down on her slit through the fabric of her panties. He moved his mouth to the shell of her ear and whispered.

“Are you wet for me, baby?” Sarah shivered at the velvety tone of his voice and nodded helplessly. Jake smirked and pressed down harder, making Sarah whimper. “Take your shirt off, baby. It’s not fair that I’m the only one half-naked.”

Sarah gulped and pushed him off of her, as her hands trembled. She clutched the hem of her shirt and pulled it over her head, and Jake immediately placed his hands over her newly uncovered skin. His hands were hot against her skin and she shivered again.

“Jake, please…,” Sarah whimpered, not even knowing what she was asking for. He pulled on one pant leg of Sarah’s jeans, yanking it sharply, and she fell back toward the mattress. He yanked again until she was clad only in her underwear, and he drank in the sight of her; his eyes darkening with lust.

Sarah felt shy and moved her hands over her breast in an attempt to cover herself, but suddenly, Jake was lying over her, swatting her hands away, as he lowered his mouth and took one bud in, sucking her nipple hard. She moaned at the flick of his tongue on her nipple before he switched to her other breast, biting and nipping.

She shut her eyes tight, as her mind was filled with streams of violent color. She was feeling something tighten within the pit of her stomach and going down to the inner muscles of her sex. She didn’t know what it was, and she was caught in between the idea of release and letting the torturous pleasure go on forever.

“Jake, I want… I need,” she begged.

“I know,” he murmured against the valley between her breasts. His tongue gave it one long lick before he got up and removed his jeans; Sarah bracing her upper body with her arms, as she watched him with a new kind of hunger. When he pulled his pants off together with his boxers, Sarah’s eyes widened, as she looked at him, but he didn’t give her enough time to be nervous again, as he leaned forward and pulled her panties off of her.

Jake climbed over her once more and Sarah met him midway; grabbing his shoulders and head, as she kissed him fervently, unable and unwilling to hold her feelings back any longer. He reciprocated her kiss, as he lowered her back to the bed, positioning himself over her entrance. She gasped, as she felt the tip of his cock brushing against her clit. She moaned, as he circled his hips, teasing her before finally putting it in bit by agonizing bit.

She screamed, as he broke through her barrier; Jake shutting her up with a kiss, as his brow beaded with sweat. He pushed further, distracting her from the pain with his mouth and his touch until he was completely inside of her. He waited for a few moments; waiting for her to adjust to his size before pulling out almost completely, making her gasp, as she felt each and every vein pulsating in his member.

Jake strained to keep it as slow as possible, but when he felt her move her hips a little bit, all of his self-control went out the window and he drove himself inside her, going faster and faster until Sarah could do nothing but moan in rhythm with his thrusts.

Sarah could feel her walls starting to tighten around him, feeling the hairs on her arms going up, as she reached the peak and exploded, crying out and grabbing onto his shoulders, as she soared. Jake pumped once, twice, before he roared his climax, spurting his huge load inside of her in long spurts until he collapsed on top of her; the both of them breathing heavily.

Their love-making was both beautiful and shattering at the same time like the pleasure and pain that she felt were a prelude to a life of being with him. She felt the music ringing in her ears, but this time, it was Jake who was the pianist and she the instrument; taking her higher and higher until she reached a crescendo.

“Have my feelings reached you, Jake? Are we finally on the same path together? Do you finally see me as someone important?”
was her last thought before exhaustion overcame her and she fell asleep with Jake still on top of her, snoring slightly.
