“Hey,” Leanna said, ringing her hands together in her lap.
“It’s fine. I come in peace,” Jen said.
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. I knew it was a matter of time. I’m not mad or surprised.”
Leanna’s shoulders relaxed, feeling relieved they would have to do this dance.
“Look, I’ve got to get on the road.”
“Jen, you’re driving that monster?”
“Wouldn’t be the first time,” Jen said with a sheepish smile.
“Good luck,” Leanna said, not sure if they should hug or shake hands.
“You too.”
Kent came out, carrying a box. He put it down as soon as he saw Leanna. Leanna waved as he walked over with a big grin on his face.
“I tried to tell you, but you were gone,” Kent said, holding Leanna’s hand.
“I—thank you.”
“I keep my word, Leanna. I—I love you.”
“I love you too, Kent.”
