It burned, like her insides were
aflame. It was agonizing. She shrieked, her limbs flailing, the
handcuffs that bound her hands rattling.

Cole’s voice in her ear.
“Security, Dana.”

I don’t
know
anything about
security,” she screamed, unsure if she was telling this to Cole or
putting on a show for Enoch. The world was pain and misery, and she
wanted to die.

Make something up,” he
panted in her ear. He was moving in her, slamming in and out of her
body.

I can’t,” she yelled.
“I don’t
know
. I
don’t know
anything
. We don’t
have
security.”

Dana.” Cole’s whisper was
irritated. “You’re prolonging this.”

Oh, fuck him. That bastard.
He wasn’t being—

A fresh wave of misery hit
her, the wolf bond searing deep inside her. She thought she might
be falling apart.

She gritted her teeth, but a guttural
cry ripped out of her. Her whole body stretched and strained. She
needed to get away from Cole.

But he was holding onto her,
and he was pinning her to the table, and—

We don’t have anything,”
she gasped. “We barely have twenty people trained to use guns, and
they’re all armed with tranqs. There’s nothing.”

Good,” Cole whispered in
her ear.

Nothing,” she ground
out.

And then Cole’s fingers were
on her clit again, and—

Oh, fuck, he was not somehow
making her come during this. There was no way she was having an
orgasm during this, not
this

Nothing, nothing, there’s
nothing,” she moaned.

The pleasure was a balm for
a moment. Sweet, sweet convulsions in her pelvis, a
relief.

But then the wolf bond
slammed into her, and torment burned through her body. She couldn’t
tell now if the throbbing twinges were the orgasm or the pain. The
agony and the ecstasy twined around each other, pulsing deep into
her very core, and she screamed and screamed and screamed, her
throat torn by the force of it, by the pain, by the horrible,
horrible—

And it was done.

He wasn’t inside her. He
wasn’t touching her.

She went slack on the table,
not moving except for spasms that shook her body.

It took her a minute to realize the
spasms were sobs. She was crying, but she felt like her body was
doing it, not her, as if it was an involuntarily physical response.
She felt disconnected from everything.

She felt broken.

* * *

Cole zipped up his pants and
looked up at Enoch.
“Now you
leave.”

Shit. Dana was crying. Cole hated it
when she cried. He wanted Enoch out now.

Enoch got to his feet. “That
was definitely the deal.” He wandered over to the table. He nudged
Dana.

Don’t,” Cole growled. Had
he screwed up? Had he pushed her too far? Her body was racked with
sobs. He felt a burst of icy terror knotting up in his stomach.
Shit.

Enoch smirked. “All right,
all right. She’s yours.” He took a deep breath. “You think she’s
telling the truth about security?”

Enoch, they don’t even
suspect wolves. They don’t think what you did was an attack on the
SF. They think it was an isolated incident out west. Humans
shooting furs. There wouldn’t be any reason for them to increase
security.”

Enoch nodded slowly,
smiling. “Yeah, you’re right. Good deal. Thanks, Cole. You’re
really putting my mind at ease about this stuff.”

Sure thing,” said
Cole. “Anything for the cause.”
Get the
hell out of here
, he
thought.

Look, I’m sorry I haven’t
been very trusting of you.” Enoch looked down at Dana.

She was still sobbing, and
Cole really didn’t like the way it sounded. His fear was growing,
cold fingers climbing up his spine. He had no idea what that wolf
bond had done to her, and, besides, what had just happened to her
was bad enough without all that pain. He wanted Enoch away, so that
he could try to comfort her, try to… fix her. If he hadn’t
destroyed her already.

No. No, she’ll be okay.
She’s strong.

He’d done other things to
her. Worse things. He’d tried to kill her. That was worse than
this, wasn’t it? Shit, maybe this was the worst thing he’d ever
done to her.

Stop crying, Dana.

Fuck, fuck, fuck, he was in full-blown
panic now.

The attack’s set for next
month,” said Enoch. “First Wednesday. They should all be relaxing
after the full moon, and they won’t be expecting it.”

Oh. This was the information
he needed. Enoch was telling him everything. Why did he have to be
doing that now, when Cole didn’t even feel like concentrating on
it? He tried to store that somewhere in his brain, tried to make
himself remember it.

Good,” said Cole. “That’s a
good plan.”

Sorry I kept it from you.”
Enoch headed for the door of the RV. “Oh, and brother?”

Yeah?”

We’re in
Arkansas.”

Oh,” said Cole, unsure of
why Enoch was saying that.

You wanted to know where we
were,” said Enoch.

Right,” said Cole.
“Thanks.”

Of course.” Enoch opened
the door.

Enoch, wait.”

Enoch turned back again.
“What?”

Uh…can I unhandcuff her?
She’s probably not going anywhere right now.”

Enoch peered at Dana’s
motionless form. “I guess she’s not.” He pulled the key out of his
pocket and handed it to Cole.

Cole went to Dana and
unlocked the handcuffs. She didn’t seem to register what had
happened. She didn’t move, anyway. She just kept sobbing. Cole
swallowed. He went back to Enoch and handed him the key.

Have fun with her,” said
Enoch.

Cole nodded, trying to look eager at
the prospect, when all he was feeling was bright terror.

Enoch left the RV.

Cole dragged a hand over his
face.

Dana was still crying. She
hadn’t moved. She was just lying there, sobbing her heart
out.

Cole stared at her. Shit.

He should have come up with
a better idea. He should have said to hell with the idea of fooling
Enoch, grabbed Dana, and run. Just gotten the two of them away
somewhere.

But maybe they wouldn’t have
made it. Maybe Enoch would have caught up to them. Maybe they’d
both be prisoners, then. Maybe worse things would be happening to
Dana.

Because there were worse
things. There
were
. She was going to be okay. She had to be.

He’d done it because he
wanted to. Some part of him really got turned on from taking her
like that. Some part of him even liked the fact that she’d been in
pain.

There was something very
wrong with him, and he’d destroyed Dana.

Shit.

He went to the back of the
RV and rummaged around in the little closet area next to the bed.
From what Enoch had said, this RV used to belong to Deedee, and no
one was using it, at least not permanently. They said that he could
crash there, so he was fairly sure that he and Dana would be left
alone. But was there anything left behind? Clothes? Something she
could wear?

He found a man’s t-shirt. It
was big, probably belonged to Enoch.

He went back to Dana. He
knelt down next to her. “Hey,” he said quietly.

She opened her eyes. Her
cheek was pressed against the table. She stared at him
blankly.

Can you put this on?” he
asked.

She didn’t
respond.

Okay, then. Fuck, what the
hell had he done to her? He took a shaky breath. “Dana, I’m sorry.
I’m really sorry. I thought…”

You’re an asshole,” she
said.

She can
talk
. He let out a sigh of relief. “Yeah,”
he said. “I’m an asshole. Now, put this on.”

She reached out for the
shirt. Her movements were jerking and trembling. She snatched it
from him, and then pulled it over her head.

The shirt nearly came down to her
knees. She looked down at herself. She was shaking all
over.

He stood up. “I’m
sorry.”

She massaged the bridge of
her nose. “It’s okay. You convinced him, didn’t you? Now we know
when the attack is. Now we know where we are.”

I don’t think it was worth
it. I shouldn’t have… done that to you.”

Maybe not.” She hugged
herself. “But now we know everything, so you can just take me home
now. I want to leave.”

Right. They knew what they
needed to know. They could go. “Okay. But we should wait until
later, when everyone’s asleep. That’ll be the easiest way to leave
undetected.”

Okay,” she said.

He didn’t know what else to
say.

She wasn’t looking at him.
She fingered the edge of the t-shirt. Then she wandered over to the
bed at the back of the RV, and she sat down on it.

He stayed put, just looking
at her. “Dana, should we talk about—?”

I hate you,” she
said.

He looked down at his shoes.
They’d said those words to each other before, he knew. But this
time, it felt different. “Well, you probably
should
hate me.”

I do.”

Good.” He raised his gaze
to meet hers. “This is what I am, Dana. This is what I’ve always
been.”

Her lower lip trembled.
“You’re cruel.”

Yeah.”

I
hate
you.”

Getting that.” He turned
away from her, running a hand over the stubble on top of his
head.

She didn’t say anything
else.

He didn’t know what to say
to her. He sat down at the table. It smelled like Dana’s pussy, and
his cock throbbed.

He hadn’t finished. There
was no way he could do that in front of Enoch, not like that. He
wouldn’t deny that bending her over the table had turned him on.
Taking her that way had excited him, or he wouldn’t have managed to
achieve an erection. But he hadn’t been about to make her wait all
the way until he came.

She always came easy. When
he was touching her, he felt like her body was perfectly designed
for him. She gave up her secret places of pleasure so easily to his
questing fingers. He could make Dana come any time he wanted. He
knew just how to do it.

There hadn’t been a lot of
other women in Cole’s bed, but there had been a few. Those women
always seemed like they had bodies locked up tight against him. He
couldn’t figure them out.

No, Dana was special.

And she hated him.

He’d just hurt her—tortured
her, terrorized her, and he felt bad about that. He did.
Really.

But he could smell her all
over this damned table, and he was still hard, and he…

Damn it.

There was something very, very wrong
with him.

Cole?” said
Dana.

He looked up at her.
“Yeah?”

How long do you think it’ll
be before we can go?”

I don’t know. Hours.
Probably not until after midnight.”

You want to come over
here?”

What?” Why would she say
that? “You hate me.”

I know.” She rubbed the
back of her neck. “I know that. But that’s the goddamned problem
with you, Cole. I hate you. I’ve always hated you. And yet I always
want you too. And I’m kind of worked up, so come over
here.”

He lurched to his feet. “You
don’t mean…”

Well, I don’t want your
hands on me. It hurts too much. But…” She swallowed.

He went over to her. He
stood next to the bed, but he didn’t sit down.

Unzip your pants,” she
said.

Dana…” He was confused. He
was so confused, but he might be more turned on than he was
confused. “I don’t think you should—”

I know, Cole. I know.
There’s something wrong with me. There’s something very, very wrong
with me. Now show me your fucking cock.”

He undid his pants. He was
already hard, and he sprang free the minute he opened the zipper,
poking through the opening in his boxers.

She sucked in breath. She
got up on her knees and moved closer, looking at him. “I miss your
cock. I think about it sometimes.” She looked up at him, parting
her lips. “Touch yourself,” she murmured.
