“I’ll be ok. It’s not that bad. You should see him.”
When she was about to say
something,
there was a knock on the door
. S
he stared at him with fear in
her eyes. He ran downstairs
, his left hand balled into a fist
, and
answered the door
,
expecting to see Tommy
,
but to his surprise
,
it was the cops.
“Good evening, are you Jason Anderson?”
Jason had known this might happen. “Yes, I’m Jason Anderson. How can I help you?”
“We got a call that s
omeone attacked Mr. Thomas Blake
. A witness said that you coul
d possibly be the attacker. The witness
said it happened so fast,
and by the looks of things, she was
right,” the cop said.
Kay came down the stair
s to the door and told the cops.
“That’s impossible. He was here with me.”
The cop looked at her. “Did he do that to you?” and pointed at her face.
She looked up at the cop. “No, when did the inc
ident happen?”
The cop answered.
“About thirty minutes ago.”
“Well, we’ve been here since five o’clock.”
“
Well
from where I’m standing he has a swollen hand, and you have a swollen eye. It looks to me like domestic violence.” He stared at both of them.
“He didn’t do this to me, S
ir. He would never hurt me.”
“I can’t take you in right now because of lack of evidence, but we will be back. The man is going to press charges.” He turned and walked away.
Kay closed the door and bent over in pain.
“Are you okay?” Jason asked, looking concerned.
“I’m just a little weak,” she answered.
He picked her up and
carried her
up the stairs. He took her to the bedroom and sat her on her bench while he changed her sheets. “Thank you for saving me with the cops.”
She looked at him with tears forming in her eyes. “No, Jason, thank you for standing up for me. You know if Kimberly ever hits you, I would do the same thing for you, but I would have the best lawyer.” She laughed.
He smiled
.
“Who?”
“You,” she
replied, smiling.
“I’m glad you still have your sense of humor.” He picked her up and sat her on the bed
.
“I can walk, you know.”
He ignored her and grabbed the house phone. “I’m going to order some food. I know you’re hungry; I heard your stomach.” He left the room.
She picked up her cell phone. When he answered,
she said in an angry soft tone.
“If you come after him, I will make sure you go to jail for what you did to me. It behooves you to get in touch with the cops and drop the charges or you’ll live to regret it, and that’s a promise, Tommy.” She hung up.
He was downstairs cleaning up the glass when the delivery guy knocked on the door. He paid the man and ran upstairs
. He entered the room, and said.
“Hey, it’s your favorite since you’ve been pregnant. Beef and broccoli with pork fried rice.”
She smiled and stared
at him. “How did you remember?”
“I remember a lot of things about you, like the clothes you were wearing when I met you.” She began to eat.
She smiled. “Yeah, right.”
He looked into her eyes
.
“You were wearing a red tank top with washed out jeans, your hair was pulled into a ponytail with a few strands in your face, and your brown eyes were radiant. I remember thinking. ‘She has doll eyes’. You were looking so damn sexy, even with the attitude.”
She couldn’t believe he remembered. She wasn’t going tell him she remembered that day too. She had looked up at him and thought
.
“Shit, he sure looks hot for a white guy.”
“So
you thought I was sexy, huh?” S
he asked, smiling.
He blushed
turning red
. “Whatever. Keep eating,” he mumbled.
They finished eating, and he picked up their plates and took them downstairs. When he came back into the bedroom, tears were rolling down her cheeks. He took one hand and wiped them away. “I’m here. I won’t let anyone hurt you again. That’s a promise.”
“I’m so tired,” she said. “Can you please lay with me?”
“Come here.” He pulled her into
his arms
and then lay down with his hands around her belly, with her turned against him. His face was on her neck, inhaling her
warm
-vanilla smell. He started imaging he was kissing her. Where were these feelings coming from? The more he thought about it, the more aroused he got.
Down, boy. She is our friend, friend only
.
She could feel him getting aroused
. I
t surprised her
. Was he attracted to her? The thought
was starting to get
her
aroused too. She liked
how it felt to be in his arms. She remembered
the time he stayed up with her all night holding her when she thought she had breast cancer
.
She couldn’t sleep waiting for the result the next morning
.
She
’d
cried in
his arms, and he’d consoled her all
night
. T
he next morning the results
came
in,
and
it wasn’t breast cancer.
Being beside him was what she really needed and wanted.
Why? When did these feelings start? He’s just your friend, nothing more, and he has a girlfriend.
They bo
th were surprised when feeling
a thump in her bel
ly. She turned around.
“Did you feel that?”
“Yes,” he said, excited. “She moved for me.”
“She?”
“It’s a girl, a little Kay.”
Their faces were bar
ely
touc
hing. Even with her eye swollen,
she still looked beautiful to him. Jason moved in
as s
he moved forward their lips touched
. The kiss started gentle,
her lip
s on his were pure heaven,
electrify
ing. She began kissing him back, parting her lips
for
his entrance. Their tongues met and started dancing, all the
passion they both felt
for each other
was being expressed by the kiss.
“
W
hy
did I wait all this time for this? It’s better than I imagined it would be
.”
She pulled away
looking at him
with fear in her ey
es.
“I’m bleeding or my water
just broke.” When he looked down, he saw blood on the sheets
.
“We’re going to the hospital.
”
H
e picked her up
,
not caring that he was getting blood all over him
self. H
e closed the door behind him, put her in his car
,
and drove to the hospital.

He carried her into the ER and ran to the nurse behind the counter. “She’s almost five month pregnant, and she’s bleeding.”
The nurses hurried her to a wheelchair and told him to wait there. “We just need to examine her.”
“She needs me,” he said
. H
e couldn’t bear to think of anything
bad happing to Kay or the baby.
He already loved her
baby
.
T
he baby has to ok.
S
he was part of Kay
,
so she
was
part of him.
Fifteen minutes later, the Nurse came in the waiting room,
“Sir you can go see her now
.”
He walked into the room. Kay was crying. He went over and grabbed her in his arms. “Everything is going to be ok. Our baby will be ok,” he whispered.
She looked at him. “Our
baby.”
She had t
ears in her eyes
.
“Maybe it’s a good thing if I lose this baby. He doesn’t want it, and my life would be much easier.”
He tried not to show how much what she said got to him. “What? Who gives a fuck if he wants her or not? I’m here, and I will be here for her. I don’t ever want to hear you say those words again. You’re not alone.”
She looked at him. “You know I didn’t mean it. It’s just that...why is this happening to me?” She put his hand on her stomach. “We just felt the baby move. He did this. He wanted this to happen.”
The doctor came in and looked at both of them, he looked at Jason. “Did you do this to her?”
Jason looked at his knuckles and could see why he’d thought that. Kay answered the doctor. “No, it wasn’t him.”
The doctor said. “I have to report it.”
“I reported it already.
” Kay lied.
“
Jason defended me. That’s why his knuckles look that way. It’s not because he hit me. He would never hit a woman.”
“Your baby is ok,” the doctor said. “When you fell down, combined with the stress of the day, might have caused you to bleed. I’m going to put you on bed rest for a week. Would you like to see and hear the baby’s heartbeat?”
Before she could say yes, Jason answered for her. “Yes.” The doctor turned on the monitor and started to put some of the cold gel on her stomach. As soon as he put the instrument on her
stomach, the baby’s heartbeat sounded off. Jason smiled from ear to ear. It was music to his ears. The picture on the screen was amazing. He could now make out the baby.
The baby was moving, and the doctor asked. “Do you want to know what you’re having?” They looked
at each other, and she answered.
“Yes...”
The Doctor said
,
“I’m ninety-nine percent sure it’s a girl.”
Jason started smiling. “I told you.”
“Do you want a picture of your baby’s sonogram?” the doctor asked.
“Yes, I do,” Kay, answered
.
The Doctor printed the pictures and gave them to her. After cleaning her up, he said, “I’m going to go get your discharge papers.”
Jason touched her belly and kissed it. “Hey, baby girl, everything is going to be ok.” He looked up at Kay. “Can I have one of those pictures?” he asked. She picked one up and handled it to him. He pulled out his wallet and placed it in. He put his hand in his front pocket and pulled out is cell phone. It was one a.m. in the morning, but he called John to let him know he was taking a few days off.
“What are you doing?” Kay asked. “You don’t have to do that.”
“I know; I want do.”
“W
hat about Kimberly?”
“What about her?”
“What will she say?”
He went over to her, held her hand, and said, “She’ll have to deal with it. I won’t leave you alone.” He stared into her eyes. “By the way, you’re moving in with me for the week.”
She looked at him. “No, I can take care of myself.”
“No is not an answer. You should know that about me by now. Kay, why won’t you ever accept help? You don’t always have to handle things by yourself. I’m willing to help you. It doesn’t make you less independent.”

They drove over to her house to pick up a few of her things. He knew he had to talk to her about what had happened between them. It felt good... her soft lips pressed on his, the taste of her sweet tongue. H
e helped her back into the
car;
he jumped in and smiled at her. She smiled back. He loved seeing her smile. He knew she wasn’t happy about staying with him, but she would just have to deal with it.
She looked at him. “Are you sure about this?”
“Yes”
“Kimberly.”
He ignored her and started driving. Twenty minutes later, they pulled into his driveway. His house was huge. When he’d made partner, he’d bought his dream house, hoping that one day he would have someone to share it with. His home was over three thousand square feet of living space and had five bedrooms, four bathrooms and a beautiful spacious backyard. “Kay,
mi casa, es tu casa,”
as he opened the door. The living room was beautiful with a brown leather sectional sofa and two recliners, a sixty-inch TV above the fireplace, and the walls were decorated in natural colors and beautiful paintings. The dining room was elegant, decorated in black and white, and from the ceiling hung a beautiful crystal chandelier. In the middle, there was a seven- piece black marble dining room set. She was amazed at how beautiful his house was.
