My White Lottery Winner (BWWM Interracial Romance) (10 page)

I work in a café. Working fast is like my second name but Rochelle has been really surprising for the past few weeks,” Cynthia said.

Yeah, the other day she made breakfast. Pancakes,” Desiree said as she took some plates from one of the cabinets.

Hey, I am still in the room,” Rochelle said frowning. Desiree smiled and began setting the table.

I’m just saying sweetie, I have known you all your life and you could not even make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and now suddenly you are cooking? You can’t blame us for thinking that there is something different about you,” Desiree said.

Well, Tony is the only new thing in her life of late,” Cynthia said. She noticed Rochelle’s cheeks flush.

Tony is the only guy we know who has managed to stick around for this long,” Desiree said.

Oh yeah. Fess up, Roch,” Cynthia said smiling. “Guess he is a really good influence on you, huh?” she asked.

Guess so,” Rochelle said smiling.

So you are officially admitting that this is the one man who might make an honest woman out of you?” Cynthia asked.

Come on Cynthia. This is a no brainer. If there was anyone who would ever make an honest woman of my sister, it is Tony,” Desiree said as she placed the last plate on the table. Rochelle smiled as she took a bottle of wine from the fridge and began pouring it into glasses.

Enough about me and my love life. You better get the guys in here before the food gets cold,” she said without looking up. Desiree and Cynthia exchanged a knowing look before Desiree walked out of the kitchen and into the living room.

Hey guys, dinner’s ready. Come on in,” she said just as she heard the doorbell. She walked to the front door and opened it to see a delivery guy standing at the doorstep. “Can I help you?” she asked looking at the delivery man.

Delivery for a Desiree Young,” he said.

That’s me,” she said. The delivery man handed her a clipboard.

Sign here,” he said as he picked up a package from the floor. Desiree could not help noticing that the package had the same width as the painting she had given back to Leon earlier that day except that it was bigger.

Thanks,” she said as the delivery guy walked away. She closed the door and ripped off the brown paper that covered the box. Once the box was exposed, she opened it and pulled out the very same painting Leon had offered her. She cursed under her breath as she pulled the painting out of the box. She noticed a note stuck at the back of the painting.

I miss you and this painting just makes me miss you all the more.

She was still looking at the painting when the Taylor walked up to her.

Hey, we’re all waiting for you,” he said. “Nice painting. Where’s it from?” he asked. Desiree suddenly realized that she would have to come clean. Not just about the painting but about her entire day. She looked into Taylor’s eyes and sighed.

Babe, we need to talk,” she said in a low voice.
