“Is there any way…” He never finished his statement, realizing he’d made an enemy of Lila Abbott. As his hand reached the doorknob, he looked back at her and added, “I hope you choke to death on your scarf like Isadora Duncan. And I’ll pay to see it.”

“Not until you pay me back.” She pulled open the top desk drawer and withdrew a stack of pages from it, waving them in front of him. “These are the notes you’ve signed for your gambling debts.” She reached in a second time and pulled out a file folder. “This is the accounting of the money you’ve been embezzling from the company.” She leaned back and smiled, a satisfied smile Ben knew from experience. “You see, I own you, in more ways than one. After you’ve paid me back for these”—she fanned the pages before her—“we’ll discuss your future.”

“I hate you,” he screamed, spit flying from the corners of his mouth. “I’ll never be able to pay you back.”

“How did you think you’d pay off the gambling debts, with more company funds?”

“I hadn’t…” He looked at the floor and scuffed his feet on the carpet.

“Paul will be waiting for you outside. Be nice to him, he’s your bodyguard of sorts.”

“What do you mean?” His expression showed true confusion.

“Did you think I’d let you go on alone and trust you’d do the right thing?” She laughed again and shook her head at him. “Consider him your boss, companion, or friend, but remember he works for me and reports directly to me.”

“You can’t mean to strangle me with a babysitter?”

Under her breath, Lila said, “More like Paul getting the short end of the deal.” She drew a breath, annoyed with the scum she had to deal with. “Singapore is a lovely country, and you have a lot of work to do there. Just remember, any foreign country can be dangerous…Paul will make sure no harm comes to you, unless I order it.” She hit the intercom yet again, and a huge hulk of a man opened the door, blocking the doorway. Ben figured him to be around forty, decided instantly he was ex-military and wouldn’t let Smarmy get away with anything.

“Christ, he’s huge,” Ben said to Wyatt, somewhat in awe of the new man.

“Down boy, he’s going to be a babysitter for a while.”

“Maybe Lila is doing Smarmy a favor sending him abroad with Paul.”

“I doubt Paul will take any of his crap. And if he tries anything, Paul has orders to make sure he behaves, no matter how it’s accomplished.”

“Look at the way he’s staring at Paul. I think he may enjoy this man. Maybe she opened the door for his dual sexuality to shine.”

“Paul will sell him to a sex show before he lets him put a move on him. Lila has given him several references over there who would love to have a man like him on stage, taking more of what he got today. I’m sure he won’t like it, but with all the money she paid to cover his gambling debts, well…” Wyatt laughed. “Use your imagination.”

“I am,” Ben whispered. “I’m proud of her for handling things, but I’m suddenly intimidated beyond reason.”

“Not to worry, you’re not a slimy lawyer who physically abuses employees.”

“God, look at her, she’s magnificent.”

“In all ways.” Wyatt agreed.

Ben flinched when Smarmy slammed the office door for effect. Instantly, it was reopened by Paul who leaned down and whispered something to him. He watched amazed as Smarmy grasped the door handle and pulled it quietly closed.

Ben sat back and shook his head. “Do you think he’ll try and retaliate?”

“He’ll think about it,” Wyatt said. “But he’ll be watched carefully by Paul and other employees in the Singapore office. And you never know, strange things happen to bad people in foreign countries.” Wyatt laughed at Ben’s reaction to his words. “Just kidding, but it was worth the look on your face. Come on, let’s congratulate Lila and get something to eat before we have to leave for the party.”

“I’d love to know what Paul whispered to him to make him change his demeanor so quickly.” They were gathering the bourbon bottle and glasses.

“Probably something along the lines of if he didn’t behave, Paul would have someone fuck his urethra.”

Ben stopped dead at the doorway, and his body visibly paled. “I’m not sure how that would be possible.”

“It is possible, anything is possible, with some stretching and training, none of which our little lawyer friend would appreciate. And if he annoys Paul, he’ll make sure there’s an audience to watch the process.” Wyatt laughed at Ben. “Do you want to sit down for a moment? You look absolutely shaken. You’ve lost all color in your face.”

“No, I’m fine. I guess there are things in this world I never imagined. Now I’ll find it hard to lose that image.”

“Relax, that’s not one of Lila’s favorite things. She and Paul spoke this morning and probably set it up to use it as a means of keeping the little man in line.”

“Christ, remind me never to piss her off.”

“You’re not a scummy perverted lawyer like this guy is. You don’t believe that anyone in this world is yours just because you want them to satisfy a lust.”

Ben found it hard to lose the image of a large man trying to shove his hard-on inside Smarmy’s cockhead. He was frightened by the idea. For the first time in years, his cock was limp. He didn’t want to contemplate the idea of the rest of things people did that he had no clue to. For the rest of the day his dick never stirred. He smiled and nodded when appropriate, but had no desire or stirring for anything sexual.

Chapter Thirteen

Ben hadn’t been surprised when the celebration turned out to be a major success. He’d enjoyed the food, met some of the employees’ extended families, and just had a good time watching the crowd. He especially enjoyed watching Lila and Wyatt work the group. Wyatt had taken him under his wing, so to speak, inviting him into conversations and introducing him around. Nearing nine that night, he was glad to be away from the crowd and heading back to the island. He’d decided while he enjoyed the afternoon, he’d come to prefer the slower pace and privacy Pyxis Island afforded him.

Lila was in good spirits from her day’s activities. She stood at the bow of the boat watching her island come closer. Ben realized she didn’t care if he or Wyatt heard her sigh at the sight of it. At the docks, they took one of the four-wheelers on a leisurely drive to the far side of the island, climbing the dunes with ease. From this vantage point, they had a clear view of the star-studded sky and the fireworks show that was about to begin. Pulling a bottle of wine from the cooler, Lila seemed to finally relax. Wyatt spread out several large blankets and handed out the wine glasses. When Lila had filled them, she proposed a toast.

“To the Fourth of July and all it represents.” They clinked glasses and sipped. She settled on the blanket, and each man took their spot beside her. Wyatt automatically went to her right side while Ben was comfortable at her left. Within minutes, the show began, the noise jolting them physically. Ben put his glass aside and lay back, watching the sky light up with the blasts of color. They could just hear strains of classical music that was being played at the party, a soundtrack that the fireworks had been set against.

“I’ll give you this, Lila,” Ben said, reaching for his glass. “You throw one hell of a party.”

“To Lila and her parties,” Wyatt agreed, touching his glass to theirs.

“To this long day being over,” she began, “to setting some things right, and to having our privacy back.” She laughed, but Ben understood that was the most important part of the day to her. Soon, all the strangers would leave Pyxis, and they’d get back to a normal routine.

“I’d like to lick your pussy until you come,” Wyatt said, his smile sly. “But there are so many strangers around.”

“And I don’t wish to have our photos taken by someone’s cell phone. Can you imagine what they’d find out about us!”

“I’d prefer our private time stay private,” Ben added, a chill running through him as he considered the idea of a stranger taping their sexual escapades.

“This will all be over soon,” Lila added, refilling their glasses. “Just settle back and watch the show. We can always come back here tomorrow to fuck if we’re still in the mood.”

Lila spent Sunday in bed alone, recuperating from the party and its planning. She had told both her men to enjoy the weekend off when they returned to the compound last night, suggesting they head to the mainland for some downtime. It was her way of acknowledging the need for privacy. While she hated to complain, she found all the planning and socializing exhausting. The only one she granted any audience to was Vernon, who slipped in several times to leave trays of food. She knew Wyatt had taken Ben over to the mainland this morning, and they were planning on going out to Montauk for lunch and a drive.

Wyatt drove with ease, enjoying the simple task. They had taken Lila’s Jaguar and were enjoying how the machine handled the road. Cutting across the island and heading east, it wasn’t until they hit the Hamptons area that the traffic swelled. Neither man cared.

“Can I ask you something, without any repercussions?”

“Of course,” Wyatt answered, stealing a glance at his companion in the passenger seat. “What’s on your mind?”

“Lila, of course!” They slowed, passing a shopping center, and Wyatt kept his attention focused on the road. “It’s just, well, does she often get her reprisals the way she did yesterday? Don’t get me wrong, after seeing how that man treated the secretary, I believe he deserved what he got. But is she always so…literal in her punishments?”

“No. But this was a special case. She inherited him in a company takeover and never liked him, never trusted him. Hell, every piece of work or correspondence that came from his desk was overseen and redone. He was a waste of time and money all around. When she was notified of the incident in the office, she viewed the tape and decided it was an appropriate time to get rid of him. It was his ego and attitude that made her decide his punishment. Usually she will just fire an employee like him. He deserved a more creative punishment.”

“Did watching it…” Ben turned to look out the side window, not finishing his question.

“Did I get hot watching it? Yes and no.” Wyatt concentrated on the road before him. “The original film of his abusing Debi turned my stomach and made me mad. But watching the second half with the slime getting his comeuppance evened it out. What made me hot was the way Lila handled both of the people involved. Hell, it was all I could do to stop from taking my dick out of my pants and pulling on it when Lila got her authoritative air. Did you see how Debi weighted the ruler in her palm before wielding it? It was as if she’d found a new side to herself. I believe through the whole punishment she found that part of herself he took. Her embarrassment and self-loathing seemed to disappear. I was proud of her and Lila.”

“I caught a glimpse of Debi in the afternoon, playing volleyball and laughing with coworkers. She seemed lightened and relieved.”

“Lila did her homework. Debi has a good education and is an asset to Abbott Industries. She’s the kind of employee Lila wants working for her.” Wyatt slowed with the traffic.

“Can I ask how you met Lila?”

“Years ago,” Wyatt said, swerving in his lane to avoid a car rushing from a parking lot. “I was a younger researcher disillusioned with the politics of research and the ‘publish or perish’ mentality. Lila was looking for someone to take over her labs and oversee all the projects. Plus she gave me the opportunity to have my own space and my private experiments.”

“Can I ask what you were interested in researching?”

“There’s a deli up ahead. Would you like to take sandwiches to the beach or have lunch in a restaurant?”

“It’s so crowded. I wouldn’t mind taking lunch to the beach.”

They pulled into the parking lot and, after waiting what seemed like forever to Ben, tucked their bag lunch in the small cooler they brought with water and sodas and headed toward the beach. The topic wasn’t brought up again by Ben, and Wyatt decided he probably figured he’d pushed enough for one day. Only Ben seemed surprised when they were finally settled on a blanket before the ocean, their sandwiches long consumed and their bellies full that Wyatt reopened their earlier topic.
