Office Dynamics: M/M Workplace Straight to Gay First Time Romance (10 page)

Tris, clever as always, pre-empted him. “I love you,” he said, and pressed a kiss to the side of Jonas' neck. He said it softly, almost casually, as if it were a fact he'd only forgotten to say out loud before now. Something about the words in his mouth made Jonas' eyes tear up. He dug his fingers into Tris's arm, wanting his voice to be steady before he replied.
“That's good,” he said, and then, “shit. I mean. Me too.” He was making a hash of it, as usual, he thought wildly, except that Tris's laugh was gentle, and he was squirming closer. Then he closed his eyes and threw his leg around Jonas’ thigh, his breathing evening out as he fell into a half-doze.

Jonas kissed him on the forehead and caught himself thinking, in the split second before he was about to shut his eyes, that Tris was the great big love of his life. In a way he’d always known this, probably even as far back as that first kiss. The realization felt oddly warm at the back of his mind; he turned it over in his head until eventually he, too, fell asleep, his mouth pressed into Tris's hair. His arm cramped under Tris’s weight and he slept with Tris’s open palm splayed across his chest, curled around his beating heart.
