He handed her the invitation, and it was written in Braille. Tears filled her eyes.
“Can we go?”
Maura was shaking her head.
Jagger was grinning, and Nate knew what he had to do. “You tell me. If you want to go, we’ll be there.”
She wiped her eyes. “I’d really like to go.”
“Done,” Nate said, keeping his promise. While he wanted to shelter her, he couldn’t.
He wouldn’t.
They were together because of her.
“Jagger, can I have the file?” she asked, waiting for him to cross to the cabinet and pull it out. When he returned, she placed it on the table by the door and slipped the invite inside.
“Now their file is complete. They have a beginning and an end.”
Nate grinned. “The Alpha and the Omega.”
She sniffled. “Now I understand why all of you do what you do. It feels good to save people.”
Luke gave her a kiss on the cheek. “You did good for your first time out, Avi. Way to go.”
Maura was next. She couldn’t be mad. The joy on Avalon’s face was more than she ever thought she’d see. “I’m proud of you, Avi. Way to keep your promise.”
Nate loved his family, and the way they cared about her.
Jagger gave her a kiss on the forehead. “They’re right. You did damn good. Can I be your date to the wedding?” he asked, yanking Nate’s chain.
After all, it was his thing.
“Jagger!” Nate hissed. “I swear to God…”
She laughed. “Put the file away, Jagger. I already have a date. I’m going with Nathaniel.”
“Oh well, maybe next time.”
Before Nate could curse, Avalon jumped up and wrapped her legs around his hips. It caught him off guard.
“I’m proud of you too,” she admitted.
“Why?”
“I may be Oracle, but they’re your team. You built this, Nathaniel, and I couldn’t do it without you.”
“I wouldn’t do it without you, Avi. There’d be no point. We are the Phoenix files. They’re our story to tell too. By saving them, we’re saving us.”
He was absolutely right.
“I can’t wait until the next case,” she admitted. “I love being able to help people.”
“Maybe you can help me,” he offered.
“With what?”
He shifted her body until she brushed against his raging erection. “I seem to have a fire of my own. Want to put it out?”
Avalon slid her fingers through his hair. “More than anything in life. In fact, let’s go upstairs. I want to burn up with you, Nathaniel.”
That’s all he had to hear.
She was a fire that would never go out.

, will take us back in time to learn Gabe and Livy’s story. So many people ask me to tell their tale, and this was the way I’ve always wanted to do it.

You’ll also get a sneak peek into Ethan’s life before Elizabeth, and why she and Christopher Leonard are so close. It started there, and I hope it makes you all smile. I know I did writing it. This might be my favorite book, and there will be more flashback books to come.
