Chapter 16

Derek pulled away from the embrace finally keeping his hands locked behind Kylie’s back staring deeply into her green eyes hoping they would give something away. Kylie sighed knowing she needed to explain things. She couldn’t stand to watch him suffer any longer, not knowing the truth.

“Welcome home my love. I know you have a million questions, but please just let me say what I need to first. Okay?” Kylie spoke caressing his cheek hoping he could find hope in her eyes.

He nodded and Kylie gestured to the swing for them to sit. He smiled back and slowly walked backwards holding onto her hand like it was his lifeline. She smiled when they sat stretching her legs across his lap positioning herself so she could look deep into those brown eyes she loved so very much.

Taking a breath she began “I am not going to pretend that I didn’t hurt you. I know my confusion these past months have caused you pain. For that I am truly sorry. What I came to finally realize though is that we all have choices, and while I still don’t understand where the confusion came from or why it was ever there in the first place I don’t care. At the end of the day the only thing that matters is our love.” She paused needing a breath. Derek was staring at her like he was still waiting for the ground to fall out.

Kylie continued, “I don’t want to get married on the date we originally set,” Derek’s face fell. All of his worst fears being realized, “because,” Kylie said lifting Derek’s face back to hers so their eyes met again, “I have moved up the wedding to tomorrow. If that’s going to be okay with you?” She smiled her innocent smile never taking her eyes from his.

“Are you serious?” Derek said
in an unsure tone as if he hadn’t heard her correctly, to Kylie Derek sounded upset maybe even a little mad.

Kylie looked down at her hands her resolve never wavering she was sure. She wanted to marry Derek tomorrow and she made all the preparations to make that a reality.
She took a breath.

Cupping his face in her hands she locked her eyes with his once again, “Yes Derek I. Am. Sure. I want to marry you, but I don’t want to wait any longer.” She waited staring into his eyes hoping they would give her a sign that it wasn’t too late for them, but he stayed still.

A minute passed or it felt like that at least and his eyes flashed with love, passion, and he grabbed her face finding her lips with his. Kylie melted into his kiss and she knew then her world was right.

Finally leaning back breaking their kiss Derek spoke breathlessly, “if you want to get married tomorrow, then yes of course we can get married tomorrow.”

Leaning back in Kylie closed the remaining distance between their lips and just like that they were lost in each other.

Kylie had done what Kaylie couldn’t find the strength to do; she stared down confusion and chose
: Happily. Ever. After.
