Prymal Lust by Jianne Carlo

The primal call of Mate Claim sparks a battle among the three species of shifters—Wylfen, Feral, & Rogue—and has for generations. These violent feuds incite hunts by humankind, driving shifters near extinction. To protect their people the aristocratic Wylfen ban the practice of Mate Claim. When a Rogue alpha claims a Wylfen female, the mated pair forms a coalition with a Feral male. An alliance is created: Prymal, a new species & pack born of Rogue, Wylfen, & Feral. And war begins…

Tania, a Wylfen aristocrat, hooks up with a stranger right before her twin’s graduation from military college. Hours later, the bottom drops out of her world when she’s introduced to Axe, her twin’s new SEAL instructor. Then she discovers he’s a Feral Wolf, the archenemy of her people. Wylfen laws prohibit her from mating with a half-breed. If anyone finds out she’s mated with Axe, exile is the least she has to fear…

Chapter One

Mate Claim.

Tania jerked awake with the words echoing in her head, her body swathed in a feverish heat and a fine sheen of sweat. She clutched the sheets under her chin and stared unseeing at the hotel’s square ceiling tiles.

Why? Why was this happening to her?

After being hunted to near extinction by humans because of the violent battles that erupted over mate claim, her people, the Wylfen, shifters native to Northern Siberia, banned mate claim. To protect their species, a council of elders now decided all mate alliances.

Mate claim was so verboten, she’d never heard the words uttered aloud, never even known of the concept until one of her few Wylfen female friends, Eva, was exiled from the pack a couple months ago. Then she’d heard the vague whispers and the horrifying rumors.

That two Rogue wolves had both claimed Eva and fought to the death over her, accidentally killing Eva in the battle. Tania prayed daily the gossip was just that—gossip. But, no one would answer a single question about Eva, and all of her social network accounts had been deactivated. Facebook page gone, Twitter handle revoked, email addy bounced back, and, worst, Eva’s cell no longer in service.

Mate claim.

Only the Feral wolves and the Rogue wolves, the basest animals on the planet, still practiced the primitive ritual.

So, why had she for the last two months dreamed of being claimed? Tania massaged the tender flesh at the base of her neck. The claim spot ached constantly these days. Every morning for one hundred and three days she jolted into consciousness hornier than a nymphomaniac, dazed and oddly bereft, her hunger to be filled, sated, completed, near unbearable. She worked her jaw and tried to will into submission her burning nipples and throbbing clit.

Glancing at the bedside drawer where she’d secreted her travel vibrator, Tania let out a groan. She knew from experience the plastic dildo would give her only a brief respite against a sexual avarice that had grown to all-encompassing proportions. It seemed the more she used the vibrator, the needier she grew. And it creeped her out; the thought of masturbating and then having to face her parents and brothers over breakfast.

The room phone buzzed. She reached over and retrieved the headset. “Hello.”

“Morning sweetie. How’d you sleep?”

“Fine, Mom. What’s up?” Tania plumped a pillow and scooted back against the headboard.

“Change of plans. The graduation ceremony’s location’s been moved because of the dicey weather. They’re going to hold it indoors at the basketball stadium instead of on the commons. Dad and your other brothers have some sort of business crisis to handle, and your aunt’s invited me to her local children’s council meeting. I know we’d planned to do the consignment store tour today, but—”

“No probs, Mom. Are we all going to meet at the stadium then?” Tania crossed her fingers. She loved her family, but three days of constant company left her yearning for alone time.

She didn’t need to flick into her wolf to hear the relieved sigh her mother blew out. “Do you mind getting there on your own? It’s going to be near impossible to organize it so we all travel in one vehicle. Dad and your brothers are going to be downtown, I’m going to be with your aunt, and well, what are you going to do all day long?”

Get laid.

Tania repressed a wide smirk. She had a no hookup policy, but enough was enough. Today, she’d satisfy her aching pussy with a real live cock, albeit a human one. Wylfen laws prevented her from screwing another wolf until her mate alliance had been decided upon. “Mom, I’m twenty-five. I think I can manage. What time are we meeting and where?”

“Lobby of the stadium at six. Don’t forget we’re attending the cocktail reception preceding the ceremony and then there’s the formal dinner and dance.”

“I know, I know. And yes, I will dance when asked.” She had two left feet and no sense of rhythm, unlike most females of her kind. But, tonight wasn’t about her. It was about her twin’s graduation from the private military college he’d attended the last four years. “Hard to believe Jazshuka’s graduating already. He’s the last of us. You’ve no more babies, mom.”

“All of you will always be my babies, Tania Dozene Alexandria Prakov. But, I know what you mean. It seems like yesterday that all of you were toddling around and learning to track and hunt. I promised myself and Jazshuka that there’d be no tears today. So, enough of this. Are you okay for money?”

Tania glared at a blue freckle on the ceiling tile. “I’ve been working for a living for over two years, mom. I think I can manage. Have fun and give my love to Aunt Dozene. I’ll see you at seven.”

“I will. Bye. Love you.”

“Love you too, mom.” Tania hung up.

How to wither a raging libido? Talk to your mother for more than three seconds. Not that it would take long for desire to resurge with a hitherto overwhelming vehemence.

Hit the gym.

That ought to drive the lust out of her. And if that didn’t work, she’d shower and dress, and check out the human stud talent in the hotel bar.

Not ten minutes later, dressed in sweats, a baggy T, and running shoes, Tania swiped her keycard over the electronic lock to the hotel’s version of a real gym, and stepped into the warm, humid room. The small, dimly lit chamber held only one other occupant who had his back to her.

A damned magnificent back too, sheathed in thin armless black cotton. He had the treadmill cranked up to max incline and speed and ran at a blurry roadrunner pace.

She blinked and halted in the midst of grabbing a towel from a stack on a shelf.

No human ran at that speed.

Tania sniffed and stilled.

Male pheromones thick, heavy, overpowering, and crushing swamped her nostrils. She didn’t detect the distinctive odor of a Wylfen male. No human to date had ever smelled so mouth-watering. She could get high on this man’s incredible, unique aroma.

Sexual avarice froze her in place, and she couldn’t yank her focus from the play of powerful, sinewy thighs stretching and flexing as the heavily muscled man pounded the mat.

Her heart hammered with such force the pulse in her throat drummed, and her blood thundered through her veins, making it impossible to think, far less hear. She bit her tongue and tasted blood.

Though she hadn’t made any noise, the man suddenly seemed aware of her presence. He tensed all over. Skin, the color of deep walnut, stretched tight over a thick, defenseman’s neck. She had the insane urge to bite the mouthwatering fuzz napping his damp hair.

Their gazes collided in the mirrored wall opposite the exercise equipment. Eyes the color of rich pewter stared unblinking directly at her. She shuddered under his intent and piercing scrutiny. The man stabbed STOP on the treadmill’s controls. Immediately the room went silent.

Still trapping her stare in the mirror, he swiped his cheek with a towel, and said in a deep rich voice that had her thinking of Sean Connery and Pierce Bronson all rolled into one, “It’s all yours.”

Flustered, Tania licked her lips.

He honed in on her tongue, the heat in his look so intense, hot molten lava replaced the blood in her veins.

She felt little-girl first-crush swarms in her belly and her blasted mind refused to get words to her mouth.

When he hopped off the machine and loped in her direction, she held her breath. He moved with animal grace, and his long legged stride ate up the distance between them. The damp tank he wore clung to a massive, rock-hard chest. The expanse of his shoulders had her fantasizing about clinging to them while he pounded into her.

"Did the hotel manager contact you about your tablet?” Wild sunset streaks threaded through a thick shock of straight hair the color of a fox’s. The contrast between his light locks and his sun-weathered bronzed skin had her pussy clenching.

Her mind processed his question on a three second delay. She blinked. “How—? I mean—”

“I saw when you left the tablet behind on one of the chairs in the lobby yesterday. Tried to return it to you, but by the time I got to the door, you were speeding off in a cab. Took it to the front desk and gave them your description.” He toweled off the drop of perspiration beading on a granite chin dusted with stubble the color of molasses.

The musky aroma of his sweat, the faint remnants of sandalwood aftershave, plus a flash of pheromones proved intoxicating. He stopped less than an arm’s length away from her but stood to her right giving her a profile view of him.

A bolt of lightning-white lust made her tremble from head to sock covered toes. Only by chewing the inside of her cheek did she manage to
not
check out his package. He had to have a big dick. Any man that warrior hard had to have a cock to go with those incredibly cut arms and legs.

Her vaginal walls quivered. She couldn’t wait to have him hammering into her pussy.

When he grinned down at her, she was mesmerized by the way one lip quirked up at the corner, and a hint of a dimple flashed. “Well? Did Lost and Found contact you?”

Found what? Cripes. She’d been so caught up in visualizing his prick the tablet had flown out of her head.

“Oh.” She willed her open mouth shut. “I mean. Yes, I got it back. Thank you. Thank you. I’d never expected to see it again. It’s my work tablet, and you’ve no idea how much I dreaded having to report it lost.”

He smiled and she went hurdling into another greedy-for-his-cock spiral. No one should have that kind of smile.

Genuine.

Reflected in his slate-colored eyes.

Devilish.

Almost
wolfish.

“Glad to be of help. Want to buy me a thank you drink?”

He felt it too. The sparks between them. And acknowledged it.

Was she going to get laid or what?

Tania went for the down and dirty. Human males were
so
easy to sex-manipulate. Every platitude about the little head ruling the big one was
so
true. “Do you one better. I haven’t had breakfast yet and, all of a sudden, I’m not in the mood for a workout. In a gym, that is. Want to have breakfast in bed with me?”

Chapter Two

Axe near swallowed his tongue, but not for a moment did he let his surprise show. Not in all eternity had he expected to look into Tania’s mismatched eyes and recognize the one woman in the galaxy fated to be his mate. Not in any scenario had he ever envisaged Tania propositioning him. He didn’t have a fucking clue how to keep his wolf in check. He had gone from flaccid to sledgehammer erect in less than a breath.
