Raging Kane: Book Three in the Wolfe Creek Series (6 page)

Chapter Eleven

We locked up the house and drove to Evelyn’s. Caro tried to call her several times but got no answer. Panic was setting in fast for both of us.

I called Gage to check on my family and Redding.

“Hey, what’s up, Casanova?”

“Now’s not the time. Dan and Dana, the Danks twins, tried to kidnap and maybe even kill Carolyn.”

“Shit man, is she okay?”

“As good as can be expected. We’re on our way to get her sister. Have you seen or heard from Overton?”

“Maxwell Overton? No. Why? Do you think Arabella’s in danger?” Gage sounded pissed.

“I want you to watch her like a hawk.”

“Yeah, I’ve got that covered.”

“I know, but I wanted you to have someone you trust keep an eye on my family.”

“Hunter’s visiting with Creed today so I’ll let him know. Just stay safe.”

“I will. I’ve got the world to live for.” I wrapped my hand tighter in hers, giving her a sense of security. I could feel her tension so strongly.

“Keep me informed,” Gage said before hanging up.

“Caro, I know that you’re scared, confused, and worried, but I’m going to do all I can to make you feel safe and happy again.”

“What about Evelyn? We have to make sure she’s safe,” she cried.

“We’ll get to her. We’re almost there.”

“Thank you, Kane.”

“For what? I brought this to you.”

“Fate brought this on. Whatever is happening, we’ll make it work.” She kissed my hand. The fear of her leaving me fled my body.

We were a few miles away from her building when her sister finally called us and Carolyn hit the speaker on it. “Evelyn, get ready, we’re coming for you then going back to Wolfe Creek. We’ll explain everything when Kane and I get there.”

“No, you nor your mate will be coming for her. I’ve got this lovely starlet here looking so unbelievably scrumptious. I wonder if she tastes as good as she looks.”

Carolyn gasped, tears streaming down her eyes. She didn’t know who this man was, but she knew her sister was in danger. “Overton. Your problem is with me, not her.”

“You see. Since you ruined my plan to destroy your pack and make my money hand over fist with my drugs, I needed a way to repay you for my exile. Those two halfwits couldn’t even kidnap your mate correctly. Now, I have her sister.”

I pleaded with him. “We can work something out.”

“No, we can’t. You’ve caused a serious problem for me. You made me an outcast. I wanted you to die, but I wanted to kill your mate myself. That’s what I get for sending lackeys to do something I should have done myself. I wonder…will your mate hate you if I rip her sister’s heart out and eat it? I bet she would, and then you’d die slowly from her rejection. Yes, that sounds like a plan.”

“No!” I heard in the background, but it wasn’t from Evelyn. It was a deep resonating voice, and I heard the distinct sound of shifting.

I was about to shout into the phone pleading for her safety when I heard a loud crash and a snarl. Evelyn screamed and I thought he’d followed through with his threat.

Carolyn sobbed horribly, but then I could hear two snarls and tearing of flesh.

The line went dead.

We got there faster than I expected. Once we got to the building, the doorman was waiting to escort me to the back entrance.

“She’s alive,” he whispered.

We rushed up the stairs to her floor. Using her key, we entered and saw something we shouldn’t have. I had my hands on Caro’s eyes and we walked out the door.

Evelyn and some shifter were mating. I could smell his need. He was a wolf as well, but I’d never seen him before.

Chapter Twelve

We took the elevator back down and were greeted by the same doorman. “Miss Denney, Mr. Holt. Please come this way.”

He escorted us down to the manager’s office and closed and locked the door.

In a whisper, he said, “The body was moved out of town and into a wild area full of regular wolves.”

I thought he smelled different but was just in too much of a hurry to notice. He wasn’t human. “What are you?”

“Let’s just say I’m different than the humans and yourself. The boss has taken a liking to Evelyn and she’s his now. Don’t ever worry about her. He wouldn’t do anything to harm her, and no one would be stupid enough to test him.”

“He looks familiar. Is he an actor, too?”

“Yes, he is. He’s English and usually performs on the stage instead of in front of the cameras. Normally, he doesn’t watch the news, but your antics caught his attention. The moment her image came up on the screen, he wanted to tear you to shreds. He needed to meet her and make her his.” I held onto Carolyn like I might have to fight this jackass for her. I knew what he was; I had smelled the stench before. They weren’t our enemies, but they were like wild animals. They couldn’t be trusted and would say the same about us.

After taking Carolyn to lunch, I brought her back to see her sister. I didn’t care if they were still fucking, we needed some answers. Carolyn needed some peace of mind.

The doorman let us up, and the big bastard opened the door. “Hello Mr. Holt, Ms. Denney. I am Charles Aldridge. Please come in.” He acted as though he owned the place. Their scent was in the air and it ticked me off that Evelyn smelled a little like my mate. I watched the way Charles looked at Carolyn, but there was nothing but civility in his expression. I wrapped my arm tightly around her waist, claiming her as mine. Charles laughed at my stance. “Mr. Holt, like you, I’ve no intention of deviating from my Evelyn.”

Evelyn came out of the bedroom dressed in a short robe that garnered a jealous grumble from the sophisticated, snobbish man in front of me.

Carolyn was out of my arms and in her sister’s in an instant. I saw Charles smile and I wanted to deck him.

“What do I have to do to get you to understand that I will never desire Carolyn. My kind is just like yours.”

“Really?”

“Yes, so know that she is safest with me.”

The sisters were gabbing about Evelyn getting married in two days. I could hear her thinking about a wedding.
I want to get married,
she thought with a sigh.

We will love
.
Let’s make it a double.

“Evelyn has one more day of filming tomorrow morning, so we’re getting married the next day and then we’re moving to my home in Devonshire.”

“Carolyn wants to get married, too. How about a double?”

“If that’ll please my dear Evelyn, then that’s what we will do. I personally couldn’t care either way.”

We all went out to dinner together that night to celebrate our happiness. The press was all over us.

“Carolyn. Carolyn. Is it true? There’s a rumor that a drug addict broke into your home, then OD’d when the police got there. Carolyn. Is it true?”

“My future sister-in-law isn’t in the acting spotlight for a reason. Please respect her privacy and leave us be.” Charles said.
Nice way to deflect the attention.

“Did you say sister-in-law?” a photog asked. More flashes went off and my face shifted to pure rage. I didn’t like all these bastards taking my mate’s photo. There were too many perverts out there.

“Yes, he did. Now get the hell away from my table,” I demanded.

Chapter Thirteen

“Evelyn, I just wanted to say that I’m sorry for misjudging the scene that day.”

“Carolyn, you had every right to lose your mind at that moment. The moment I saw Charles, nothing could explain the emotions that washed over me. Love, passion, and an all-consuming need became my reality. I’d be utterly destroyed if our situation had been in reversed.”

“Thanks, sister. I knew you wouldn’t do that me, but my eyes let my heart rule. He’s my happily ever after and I was afraid it had been taken from me.”

“It’s okay. I can understand because I’m the pretty one,” she teased, playing with her hair. I swatted at her and we both cracked up laughing.

“So where are you two going to live?”

“He has a home in London and Yorkshire, so we’ll be living mostly in England. He did say we could come visit anytime I liked. I just need to ask.”

“I’m going to miss you. I know we only see each other when you’re not filming, but it’ll still be hard having you so far away. By the way, are you still going to act or is he locking you down on that.”

“He wants us to do something on stage together, but he also wants me having his kids.” She didn’t sound upset about it, which made me happy because I was a little worried. Charles was handsome, but there was something about him that seemed scary. Not to mention, he killed Overton by himself. He had to be a badass.

“So tell me about Kane. I met him and we had a wonderful dinner, but all he could do was ask me about you. It was vital to him that I explained everything I could.”

“He’s amazing. You know what he is, but he’s more than that. As the Alpha of his pack he keeps them flourishing and acts as the town’s mayor. Kane has a younger sister and some other family members, but like our parents, his died so many years ago.”

“Was it as good as it was for me?” she asked, wagging her brows suggestively.

“I don’t think it could get any better,” I said with a moan. I caught Kane’s eyes from across the room.
Baby, stop that. I’m trying to get shit together, and you’ve got me thinking about your pussy.

Sorry. I can’t help it.
My eyes met his and I purred. I heard a growl rip through him, making me laugh. When we had some privacy, I was going to be in trouble. My sister understood that something was going on that she didn’t understand.

“Tell me about it. I’m aching for him right now,” Evelyn said, staring at her man.

I was so happy we were both marrying men we couldn’t do without, but I was going to miss her. We hugged tight and started planning our wedding, which the men wanted like yesterday.

We flew down to Vegas to get the ceremony over with, but, of course, Evelyn was fast becoming a household name so the paparazzi found us. After a big Hollywood shotgun wedding, I took my bride back to Redding. It was a long drive, but we made it work. It got dark about an hour before we reached my hometown, so I took my beloved and showed her how much I loved her grey coat.

“I didn’t get to tell you this earlier because I was occupied one way or another, but your fur is so perfect, Kane.”

“I think you make a beautiful wolf, Carolyn. Are you interested in stretching your legs and going for a run?”

“Can we?”

“Sure, we’ll go deep into the woods, strip, then shift.”

“Okay.”

We sauntered down the hill and undressed, leaving our clothes in a pile, but seeing her bare flesh was too much for me and I forgot about shifting and took her just as she was. She was stunned by my blitz attack on her sweet ass but easily surrendered. I nipped lightly on her cheek before pushing us down to the ground. With her on all fours, it didn’t matter if we shifted or not, I wanted to be inside her. I sniffed her heat that started to coat the air around us. It was like a drug to me. Roughly, I parted her thighs, taking in her scent as I buried my nose in her pussy. With a deep breath, I inhaled her. Her body called mine as my tongue lapped up her sweetness. I parted her thighs farther apart so I could get deeper into her. My face was wet with her desire as she moaned out her release. Howling into the night air, I rose up and mounted my mate from behind. We were joined in one thrust. Fully seated inside her, I could feel the wolf in me itching to dominate.

Gripping her hair, I pulled her to my chest with my other hand wrapped around her waist. Her pale skin was illuminated by the moonlight, and I drove up into her. With her thighs resting on mine, we ground together. I cupped and turned her chin so I could taste the lips that sang out praise for our passion.

Kane, I love it, don’t stop, my lover. Oh God, touch my breasts.

She threw her head onto my shoulder, giving me better access to her tongue. Our bodies pumped and rocked together slowly.

I love you, Carolyn. Now, come for me before I have to spank that perfect ass of yours. I can’t wait to feel your walls grip my cock until I give up the goods. Which won’t be...long…love. I’m so close to coming.

“I’m coming,” she cried out. Her pussy held my cock hostage while I emptied my cum deep into her womb. With each thrust I grunted out, jetting more of my seed inside.

Feels so good.

Yes, it does. Yes, it does.

We sat in the thatch of leaves and grass, holding each other until the moon was directly over us and a loud howl could be heard a few yards away.

A howl was like a voice; you could distinguish the person from it. Fucking Hunter.

We dressed fast and got into our vehicle. I knew I was in Wolfe Creek, but didn’t realize that Hunter would be out with Catherine.

“Oh my, do you think they saw us?”

“It’s possible, but maybe they were just roaming their area and decided to enjoy the night. I’ll introduce you to them sometime this week.”

“That’d be great.”
