Raven's Breath (The Women of Purgatory) (23 page)

"What conditions?" I asked.

"That Holli be allowed to serve at my side, retaining her memories as they are
, and that I don't lose my life force the longer I serve." Garrett smiled. "After what's happened, they agreed that my happiness and the addition of Holli and Svell to our kingdom, will only help ensure its safety in case Loki tries to return."

Garrett pulled Holli to him, gently placing his lips to hers.

My heart melted.

I was so happy he'd found someone to share his life with. I reached back for Michael's hand, sighing as it slid into mine. I turned to face him, ready to move on with my life as well. "I accept your offer on one condition."

His sexy smile weakened my knees. "What condition is that?"

"That we be able to visit Garrett and Holli all the time, whenever I want."

"That sounds reasonable." He pulled me to him and kissed me fiercely while spinning us into the air.

I looked back when I heard Garrett's voice, laced with his newfound power.

"Reasonable? Look at us, Raven." He smiled. "There's nothing reasonable about this entire situation. You're a Grim Reaper with the power to save people and are dating the leader of Heaven's army, and my girlfriend is the demon Goddess Hel who now resides in Purgatory with a frigid shadow-beast as her pet." He shook his head and started to laugh.

I
joined in, cracking up at the oddness of our situation.

Reasonable? Maybe not...b
ut perfectly right nonetheless.

PROLOGUE

Devin watched as Aryiah held a glowing book above her head, and listened as the crowd began to cheer.

When she'd heard the Goddess announce that her precious Aradia had returned and eliminated the vampire assassin, it had taken every ounce of her will power to not fly out from behind the stone pillar and start ripping out throats until she was soaked in blood and holding Aryiah's heart in her hand.

The only thing that held her back was the humor she found in the fact that they all truly believed this was over. Little did they know that when Aryiah destroyed Gage with Aradia's magick, she inadvertently made Devin practically unstoppable.

The Darkling had been right. The bond she and Gage shared had indeed been special. They were connected through his dark magick and now...that magick was hers. When Aryiah had stood victorious, demanding her to leave, the shock she had felt wasn't from her previous friend's words, but from the surge of magick that had flowed into her at the moment of Gage's death.

So, let them have their party and celebrate, because soon enough...she would have her revenge.
