Chapter 7

Sayler

Parker looked completely disappointed. I was feeling pretty bleak myself. But I knew it was just my totally silly sense of pride that had ruined the day. The truth was, I was embarrassed as heck that I had done so many stupid things in the past few years. It seemed, much to my annoyance, that Parker, who’d always been just as wild and reckless as me as a teen, had managed to grow up and pull his life together. I, on the other hand, had only managed to mess mine up more. And the long line of screw ups just kept going, including today when I’d overreacted to his questioning about how I’d managed to sink low enough to become a
courier
for a drug dealer. It was my innate sense of shame that had taken over, making for a crappy end to an otherwise nice day. I was always best at sabotaging my own happiness.

Parker pulled his truck into the shabby mobile home park and coasted down to the pathetic trailer at the end. Just looking at the dusty cracked windows and rusted siding made me feel sad.

I opened the truck door but didn’t hop out. “I guess my moving to California is just another choice I can add to a long list of bad choices.”

He didn’t say anything. He was obviously done listening to my pity party, and I couldn’t blame him. I was getting pretty sick of myself too.

“Parker, I’m really glad you’ve found your way out here in California. You are one of the coolest people I know, and you deserve to be happy.”

“And you don’t?” He pushed his glasses up on his head. A thin layer of dust and suntan made his pale eyes stand out brightly in his face. “Trust me, darlin’, I still make a lot of bad fucking mistakes. Nothing in life is ever smooth. And none of us can ever predict what the hell will happen next. You couldn’t have predicted that Kurt was going to turn out to be an abusive motherfucker when he sucked down whiskey.”

“You tried to warn me.”

“I tried to talk you out of it because I never liked the guy, and I knew he wasn’t good enough for you.” He faced forward, and that little muscle in his jaw that always twitched when he was upset was flicking back and forth. “And I was jealous. Even though I knew we’d never end up together, I sure as hell didn’t want anyone else to have you. Especially an undeserving asshole like him.”

“You were jealous?”

He lifted a brow at me. “Yeah, like you weren’t already aware of it. Or did you forget about the time I pounded Alex Evans because I caught him kissing you after the homecoming game? Earned myself a four day suspension, and my old man clapped me on the side of the head so hard I saw stars. Guess old habits die hard.” He reached over and took hold of my hand. “This man you owe the money to, are you in a lot of danger?”

My throat dried up just thinking about it. “On my last drop, I was supposed to meet the contact in a busy mall. For some reason, there were dozens of cops and security guards patrolling the mall. Turned out later to be a missing kid, but I didn’t know it at the time. I panicked. I raced into the ladies’ room and hid the backpack in a stall. I locked it and climbed out. Then I went out to wait for the police to leave. By the time I went back into the restroom, the backpack was gone. The contents were worth ten grand, or at least that’s what Chambers claimed. He told me I had a month to repay him.”

“Or what?”

It was my turn for the brow lift.

“Shit. How much longer before the month is up?”

“The month was up two weeks ago. I fled L.A. and hoped that I could hide out here and make enough money to pay him back.”

“He hasn’t contacted you yet?”

I shook my head. “No, but I’ve no doubt that he’ll make good on his threat if I don’t have the money by the time he finds me. There. Now you know it all. The last thing I want is to get you involved in my sordid little existence. Seeing you again has been the best thing to happen to me in a long time, and once I straighten this out, I hope we can still hang out together.” I pushed the door open. “The tips at the club are good, not great, but they’ll get me closer to that ten grand.” I leaned over, kissed his cheek and climbed out of the truck.

He still hadn’t driven off as I opened the door and stepped inside. I walked to the sink to clean up the dishes I’d left dirty. The door flung open, and Parker filled the opening with his broad shoulders.

“Nope. Too fucking late, Sayler.” He took three long steps and grabbed hold of my arms. He brought his mouth down over mine and kissed me with the usual urgency.

“I’m in this already because I’m not letting anything happen to you.”

“It’s too danger—”

“Yep. And, as you know, I’m a fucking magnet for trouble and addicted to danger, so this is right up my damn alley.” His face smoothed to a serious expression. “I’m going to be around for you, Sayler, so don’t bother trying to shut me out of your troubles. I’ve got a little money saved—”

I shook my head and pulled from his arms. “No way. I got myself into this, and I can get myself out. If you’re going to be here for me then you’ll have to accept the fact that I’m up there on that stage stripping for the customers.”

His mouth turned down, and he took a deep breath. “Yeah, fine. For now.” He looked around at my tiny living space. “You’re not safe here. You need to come home with me.”

“I’m fine here. I need to do this on my own.” I pressed my body against his. “You’re not that far away. As long as I know you’re near and I’m not completely alone, I can get through this. I went from my parents’ control to living under Kurt’s thumb and this little sliver of independence has taught me a lot.” I smiled. “First, it’s taught me to stop doing dumb shit, but it’s also made me understand myself better.” I reached under his shirt and stroked the skin on his chest. “And seeing you again has reminded me how much I lost when you moved out of town.” I lifted the hem of his shirt up, exposing the tattooed ripples of his stomach and the hard muscles of his chest. I pressed my mouth against his skin. “You’ve definitely filled out nicely, Parker Stevens. Think I’ve got an hour before work. If you’re in the mood.”

He yanked his shirt off and threw it on the kitchen counter. “When it comes to you, baby, I’m always in the mood.” His hands took hold of my face and he kissed me.

My hands smoothed over his arms and chest and down to the fly on his jeans. He groaned against my mouth as I pushed his pants down and wrapped my fingers around his thick, hard cock. I moved my thumb over the slick round tip of his erection.

“Fucking hell,” he grunted. “Just your thumb is going to make me come. You are the sweetest damn fuck in the world, Sayler. I don’t ever need anyone else, just you.”

He took hold of my wrist, and I released him. He led me to my small, rickety bed in the corner. It creaked and smacked the wall as he sat down on it. He stared up at me with a hungry gaze. “Take your clothes off, darlin’. I’m just gonna sit here and watch. My cock’s already aching at the thought of seeing you naked. You’re fucking perfection.”

I smiled at the thought of giving him his own private strip show. I turned my back to him and winked at him over my shoulder as I slid off my sweatshirt and twirled it from one hand before letting it fly. It landed on the top of the refrigerator. I laughed. “Oops. Guess there’s not much room for the dramatic flair in here.”

“Sweetie, if you’re expectin’ any kind of tip”—he looked pointedly at the swollen moist tip of his erection—“then you’d better speed things up before I take matters into my own hands.”

A frisson of excitement went through me from his erotic threat. “And just what might that look like?” I asked as I teased him by lifting my shirt just enough to see the bottom of my bra. “You taking matters into your own hands.”

He hopped up, nearly filling the entire sleeping corner of the trailer. He shoved off his shoes and stripped off his pants. The wall opposite my tiny bed was empty because of the tilt in the trailer, and Parker used that free space to his advantage by pushing me up against it. Not that he needed an advantage because I was all his. I’d needed this as much as he seemed to need me. His unabashed raw lust for me seemed just as strong as it had been when we were two extremely horny teens, always waiting for the next second when we could be finding a private place to fool around. We’d been creative as hell back then, and only once had we nearly gotten caught by my dad. The terror of getting caught only seemed to add to the excitement. There were times when we’d figure out ways to get in each other’s pants with a parent barely out of earshot because it made it just that much more fun. We were adults now, and we didn’t need to sneak around. But it was still just as thrilling.

He lifted my arms straight up, pulled my shirt up and off and dropped it on the ground. I combed my fingers through his thick, dark hair as he lowered his face between my breasts. He ran his mouth along my cleavage as his hands slid my bra straps down, exposing my taut nipples to his teasing tongue. I held his head and pushed my breasts firmly against his hungry mouth. Then he dropped to his knees in front of me.

The muscles in his shoulders contracted and stretched beneath the black ink of his tattoos as he worked open the fly on my jeans. Moisture had already pooled between my legs, long before he pushed my pants to the floor. I braced my hands on his hard shoulders as he slid off my shoes and pushed my jeans over my ankles. I was naked with just my bra pushed down below my nipples.

The floor creaked and the trailer wobbled a bit as he took hold of my waist and spun me around to the bed. I sat on the thin mattress. He was still on his knees as he settled himself between my thighs.

His eyes were dark with need as he gazed at my pussy. “Fucking perfection,” he growled as he reached up with his hands and pushed my legs wider. “That’s it. Spread them. I need to look at you. I’m going to fucking taste every inch of you.”

I scooted my bottom closer to the edge of the bed. My skin was flushed warm just having him look at me. My pussy ached with wanting him. “Touch me then. Taste me. Please. Take all of me.”

He rose up on his knees and slid his hands under my ass to bring my pussy closer to his face. He left a burning hot trail of kisses along my inner thigh. My legs fell open farther in a silent invitation for him to fuck me with his mouth.

“Damn, baby, you just reminded me how much fun it is to be naked with you.” His warm breath tickled my pussy as he spoke. He reached up and rubbed his finger over the single small strip of hair. “Love this bare naked pussy look.” He ran his tongue along one clean shaven side of my pussy. His callused fingers reached up and parted the folds.

I rested back on my elbows, dropped my head and closed my eyes as his tongue flicked against my throbbing clit.

“Hey, Rodeo, you’ve learned a lot since high school,” I said on a long, luxurious exhale.

His free hand pushed against my ass lifting me higher to meet his probing tongue. His fingers released the folds of my pussy, and he nestled his mouth hard against me, sucking in the wetness all the while filling me with his thick fingers.

I brought my legs closer and rested my feet against his shoulders to lift my pussy even higher to his mouth. The stubble on his chin brushed against the naked folds of my pussy and my bare skin tingled with the friction.

A shuddering moan fell from my lips as his fingers dove deeper inside and his mouth moved against my tender clit. I squeezed my thighs together, holding his head firmly between my legs as he brought me to climax.

“Fuck yes, Parker, yes!” My entire body trembled as his tongue strokes lightened and his mouth softened against my pussy. “I need you inside of me now before these waves stop. Fuck me now.”

I lowered my legs. I heard him fishing for his condom while I moved up on the bed. My thighs trembled from the dance practice, the horseback ride and the sex. He’d pleasured me, and I decided to surprise him. I got up on my hands and knees and dropped to my elbows to shift my bottom higher. “Well?” I turned up my face to him.

His eyes were unfocused and dark green as he stared down at me. “Fuck,” he groaned, “think you just made me even harder. Didn’t know that was possible.” He climbed on the bed behind me. He grabbed hold of my hips and thrust his cock inside of me. The tingling sensations from my orgasm increased in intensity again as he filled me over and over, pushing deeper each time.

The bed smacked the thin walls of the trailer, and it seemed we might roll it completely as he moved hard and fast against me. I braced my arms on the mattress and met each of his thrusts with my own push. His heavy balls slapped my pussy as he jammed himself deeper. I clutched the sheets with my fingers as each movement caused a sweet ache in my pussy. My quiet, low mewl floated around the room.

“Do you like that, baby?” he growled. “You’ve always liked it hard and fast. That’s what makes you so much damn fun.” His voice grew more ragged and his movements quickened. “Fuck, Sayler, you’re too goddamn hot.” His fingers dug into my flesh and a deep growl followed, and his body stiffened behind me as he came.

I dropped down to the mattress. He collapsed behind me and pulled my back against his chest. The steamy fragrance of sex drifted around the small, cramped space.

I pulled his arm tighter around me. “I guess this is a step up from the backseat of your truck. But barely.”

“Yep. Funny thing is, it doesn’t matter where we are, it’s still fucking awesome every time.”

I wiggled against his hard body. “I can’t believe I’m back in these familiar arms again. And they’re bigger and stronger and just as cozy as ever. I always felt safe tucked in next to you.”

He kissed my shoulder. “Glad you’re back in my life, Sayler.”

Chapter 8

Rodeo

Denver’s motorcycle left a spray of dirt behind it as he raced toward the kicker. Bike and rider flew up as he soared through the air. Denver pushed the front wheel down and behind him. The back wheel went over and was nearly rubber side down just before Denver disappeared into the foam.

Cole was leaned forward with his arms resting on his thighs. “He’s so damn close.”

A snowstorm up north had delayed a delivery of lumber, and we had a rare afternoon off. Cole had set the bobcat up next to the foam pit, so Denver could practice his front flip. I’d been determined to master a 360 before the next show. Neither of us had mastered the tricks well enough to land on solid dirt without risking injury. And neither of us could afford to be off work, so we couldn’t get hurt.

The side gate opened, and my attention shot that direction. Dray walked in with an ear to ear grin and a twelve pack. Rett followed him into the yard. Both of them had been dying to jump a dirt bike into the foam pit, and when Cole had texted Dray that the pit was set up for the motorcycles, he’d accepted the invite without hesitation. Dray, an MMA fighter, managed a fighter’s gym in L.A., but he’d had the afternoon off. Dray and I had hit it off right from the start. The guy knew how to have a good time, and I was definitely all about that.

Rett was dating Cole’s sister, Finley, and he helped her run a sanctuary for rescued farm animals out in the valley. He was a good MX rider, but he wasn’t into freestyle. Rett was one of those lucky assholes who sucked all the attention from women whenever he stepped into a room. He was almost as popular as Cole’s rock star dad. But no one topped Nicky King when it came to women.

They walked over to the circle of chairs we’d set up to watch the jumps.

“Rett, didn’t know you were coming,” Cole said. “Did the boss release you from your chains for the afternoon?”

“Yeah. She let me go with the warning not to break any bones because I’m on mucking duty tonight.”

Cole had dragged out an ice chest. He flipped it open and reached for the beers in Dray’s hands. “Barrett Mason, whipped into submission by my hundred pound sister. Shit, that sounded way less creepy in my head.”  He stuffed the beers down into the ice. “Jump first, drink later,” Cole suggested to Dray.

“Fine with me.” Dray rubbed his hands together. “I’m ready to suit up.”

“Hold on there, fly boy,” Cole said. “Denver’s just finishing up, and Rodeo needs to nail down a 360 next.”

Rett sat on the chair next to me. “Thought I saw the tail end of a front flip when we walked through the gate.”

I leaned down to shut the buckles on my boots. “Yeah, he’s getting real close.”

Denver pulled himself up to the lip of the pit and grabbed hold of the straps to hook onto the handlebars of his bike. He whistled for Cole to come start the bobcat.

Cole sighed as he pushed himself out of the chair. “I’ve got to yank Einstein out of the quicksand.”

Dray sat down in a chair across from me. “So, Cole tells me some ex-girlfriend from Montana showed up.”

“She didn’t really show up. I ran into her at her job.”

Rett grabbed the bag of chips from beneath Cole’s chair. “You mean the strip club?”

“Guess Cole didn’t leave out any details.”

“A stripper? Nice.” Dray said as he reached for the chips. Rett held them just out of reach. “Asshole,” Dray muttered as he sat back against the chair without a chip. “So, is she hot?”

Rett laughed over a mouthful of chips. “What a stupid question. Dude, she’s a stripper.”

I glanced toward the gate. “Hey, change topics. She’s supposed to be coming here to hang out, and I don’t need you two goobers talking about her being a stripper.”

Dray stared at me.

“What the hell are you looking at?” I asked.

“Nothing. It’s just that you seem a little pissed off. Guess she’s not just some high school crush come back to rekindle a little backseat magic. You like this girl.”

“She’s a good friend, and I’m glad she’s back.”

Rett laughed. “A good friend? That’s code for having a fucking good time again with an old flame.”

Dray looked over at him. “No it’s not. You just made that up. Stick to being pretty instead of trying to decipher shit.” He grabbed the bag from Rett, who reacted too late to stop him. He shoveled a handful of chips in his mouth and turned back to me. “Well, have you fucked this good friend?”

I didn’t answer. Normally, I had no problem talking about stuff I’d done with women, but talking about sex with Sayler just didn’t sit right. Maybe because it felt like more than sex. When we were together, the bond I’d always felt with her seemed stronger than ever, as if the years apart had strengthened it rather than made it weaker.

“Silence is as good as a yes,” Dray commented. He reached into the ice chest and pulled out a beer.

“Thought you were going to hold off until you jumped the bike,” Rett said.

“What are you, my mother? Besides, it’s my afternoon off, and we’ve got to wait for this guy to practice first.” He popped off the top. “I’ll be well past digesting this sucker before I climb on the bike. Plus, I figure the buzz will just make it that much more fun.”

Denver’s bike was free of the foam. He rolled it over to the stand and propped it up. He yanked off his goggles and helmet and followed Cole back to the circle of chairs.

“Bro, a front flip.” Rett nodded with approval Denver’s direction. “Those are rare. I was watching some guy on YouTube try one at a show in Australia. He cased it on the landing. Catapulted that fucker a good forty feet through the air. Had to have eleven pins in one leg and they had to plate his shoulder and wrist.”

“So, what you’re saying is he got lucky,” Denver commented. I could tell he wasn’t happy with his last attempt, even if it was far better than most riders could do. He wasn’t easily ruffled by things, but trying to master this front flip had been gnawing at him.

I stood from my chair and picked up my helmet and goggles. “Prepare yourselves for some jawdropping action, people.”

“Oh, I’m fucking prepared all right.” Dray’s attention was on something behind me.

I looked back over my shoulder. Sayler was wearing tight black jeans and a light blue sweater. She’d pulled a black beanie over her light blonde hair. We all watched as she walked toward us with that ballerina grace that was making me already ache to have her in my arms again.

“Guess that answers your earlier question, huh, Dray?” Rett quipped. “You know who she reminds me of with the way she walks almost as if she’s not touching the ground?”

“She walks just like Fin,” Cole said.

“Yep,” Rett said.

“She’s a dancer.” I walked out to meet her. “Glad you made it. I’d kiss you, but that group of spectators behind me just isn’t the right audience for a kiss, mostly because they’ll holler and say embarrassing shit and make the whole thing awkward.

“You mean like my walk over here when you were all blatantly staring at me? I don’t mind awkward, and I haven’t seen you in three days.” She curled her hand around my neck and hopped up on her toes to kiss me.

Dray’s whistle was loud enough to send every bird on the telephone line overhead skittering for cover.

Sayler’s smile formed behind her kiss. Her dark eyes gleamed in the late afternoon sun. “So, Rodeo, are you going to introduce me to your friends?”

I took her hand and led her to the circle of chairs. They all stood. Sayler bowed her head for a second. “Gentlemanly manners. I like it. Always thought it would have been awfully damn nice to live in the nineteenth century and have every man stand when you walked into a room. But I would have hated the corsets.”

“Ah, and see I was just going to agree with you—because of the corsets.” Dray stuck out his hand. “I’m Dray, by the way.”

“Nice to meet you.”

“Sayler, these are my roommates, Cole and Denver.”

“And I’m Rett. Nice to meet you, Sayler. Love the name, by the way.”

“Thanks.” Sayler did a double-take of Rett, a completely normal reaction.

“Go on,” Dray said, “pinch him and see if he’s real. That glow you see around him goes away after you get to know him.”

Rett looked over at Cole. “Can we send him into the foam and just leave him there?”

“No, cuz then I’d have to feed him and shit.” Cole looked at me. “You going to ride or what? Daylight’s fading.”

“That depends—are you assholes going to tell Sayler embarrassing stories while I’m out on the bike?”

Sayler laughed. “Actually, I could probably tell them a few good tales myself.” She leaned over and kissed my cheek. “But, of course I won’t.” She turned the little invisible lock on her lips.

“Oh, come on,” Dray said. “Where’s the fun in that? Get on your horse, Rodeo. We’ve got
tales
to hear.” He ran his fingers in the air to tell me to run along.

I pulled on my helmet and goggles. Denver walked over. “Start the spin right off the jump or you might overshoot the pit.”

I gave him a thumbs up and kick-started the bike. I let the engine warm up and wondered if there was any fucking way I could concentrate on pulling off a trick with Sayler sitting there watching me.
