CHAPTER 1 - M3RCY ME

Chloe

Shaking my head at Ruby’s antics I wandered slowly down the passageway at the back of the bar, on my way to the staff room. It had been a long, busy night, and I couldn’t wait to get out in the fresh air and away from the smell of stale beer, loud music, and drunken students.

Pushing open the door, I headed into the staff restroom before gathering my stuff to leave for home. Feeling pretty wiped out. Saturday nights were always hectic, especially when there was live music, but collecting glasses and replenishing bottles of beer was an easy, non- taxing way of making ends meet.

While I was washing my hands, I heard a low groan, and what sounded like slapping noises coming from the communal area I had come through just before. Retracing my steps, I regretted it the instant I opened the door.

My heart stopped when I was faced with a sight which has always remained with me. Sometimes, things happen that are beyond anything you can comprehend, and that was one of those moments for me.

Halted in my tracks, I stood statue-like, arm in mid-air after smoothing my hair down. Staring open mouthed, my brain was completely blank of thoughts. I had no clever or grace-saving way of dealing with what I was seeing.

Gibson Barclay was sitting back, slouched down on the leather couch. His jeans were around his knees and he was going at it hot and heavy, with a young, blonde girl. Less than ten minutes since his gig ended and he was getting laid again.

Some people may not have been as affected like I was, by witnessing something like that, but there was something raw and degrading about what they were doing; having sex without being in a relationship. Hook up sex was the one thing that I knew I would just never understand.

Ugh, and I wondered if the guy ever thought about anything else. This wasn’t the first time I’d seen one of Gibson’s private performances. Another instance sprang to mind. Late one night in the bar parking lot he had a girl bent over on her belly, across the hood of his car.

Thankfully that time, I didn’t see any flesh. Gibson’s jeans were still on; it was just the rocking motions and loud screams of the girl he was taking, while the suspension on his car took quite a beating that gave the game away. There had actually been about a dozen incidents I’d happened upon, altogether.

On this particular occasion, Blondie, was sitting astride him, and it was obvious there had been no foreplay, because she still had her panties on and they’d just been yanked to the side. Plus, it was less than five minutes since I’d seen him in the bar talking to her, after his gig.

Trying to step back quietly, the door hinge squeaked and Gibson pushed the girl’s head down and pulled it into his neck, to see who was there. Staring straight at me he continued what he was doing and never broke his stride.

Paralyzed, by the sight of them in front of me doing that, blood rushed to my face and my heart beat accelerated instantly. Shock and embarrassment flooded my body and I couldn’t decide what to do about being in such a confined space with them.

Smirking salaciously, Gibson continued to pound into her, lifting her on and off of him, but his eyes remained transfixed on me. No idea why my eyes flicked down to the business end, but they did and damn Gibson was dishing out pretty thick package to his lady.

Knowing he had been busted didn’t deter him at all, and if anything, it fuelled his efforts, making him pound the girl faster from underneath with his butt hanging clear of the couch. From the noises she was making, I figured she was close. No one could make that amount of noise and fake it that badly, and she kept begging him to keep going.

Once I found my composure, I stepped back out of the room. Swallowing hard, I dropped my gaze to the floor and closing the washroom door softly, I sagged against it, with a few feelings I knew I shouldn’t have had about the guy.

Gibson Barclay was every inch, sex on legs. If God intended on making a sexual being it would be him. Tall, mid-brown colored hair, stunning even features, grey eyes, tanned, toned…no, ripped. And with the most lickable soft, golden skin.

The way he moved was downright mesmerizing. Really, I tried hard not to be attracted to guys like him, but there was just something about Gibson. There was something so alluring about him and he was a people magnet. For males and females.

I suppose you’d say he was a man’s man, but women adored him, reputation and all. Everyone wanted to be near him, women wanted to touch him which was fine by Gibson, because he was seriously into women.

Moving away from the door, I went to sit in one of the stalls. “Lookin’ For A Good Time” by Lady Antebellum was playing on the bar sound system and I shook my head and began to text Kace.

Stuck in the restroom because Gibson Barclay is in a compromising position out in the staff communal area.

Kace texted back,
‘I don’t believe you, I want pictures!’

Kace’s text was like a punch in the center of my chest. Feeling incensed and disgusted, I wondered if all men were pigs when it came to sex. I had only ever been with Kace, and after we’d been together for two years. Kace had been very persistent about it, but I had been determined to hold off until it was the right time for me.

Deciding when to have sex had to be my decision; and as much as I loved Kace, no one was going to talk me into something I wasn’t ready for. My beliefs were that it was a very intimate event, not just a fun thing to do. Despite Kace’s pursuit, I had only felt ready and allowed him to take our relationship to that level a few weeks before.

My busting in on Gibson and the girl, and seeing what they were doing, was totally mortifying for me. In my view, neither he, nor the girl, had any respect for themselves or their bodies. I doubt I would ever shame myself, by doing something as crude or public as I had just inadvertently witnessed with them.

About ten minutes later, there was a soft rap on the door and I heard a creak as it was pushed open. Fera, one of the bar girls, came in and said, “Gibson asked me to come and tell you the coast was clear.”

I couldn’t believe the audacity of the guy, to leave me sitting in there and calmly leave. Filthy, selfish bastard. What made it worse was the look on Fera’s face, because I could see she thought I was Gibson’s ‘lucky strike’ of the night.

I was blushing furiously, that anyone could have thought it had been me that was caught having sex with him. I was going to explain, but thought better of it. I didn’t want to draw any more attention to the whole sorry episode.

Passing back through the bar on my way to leave, I felt like it was me doing the walk of shame. Entering the bar area, the first thing I saw was Gibson and his eyes connecting with mine, before I quickly dropped my gaze in the direction of the floor and rushed past him. Kace grabbed my arm. “Hey, what’s the rush? Where are you going?”

Mumbling for him to let me go, I pulled my arm away and told him I’d see him at the car. I just wanted to be out of there so I headed out the door towards the parking lot. Kace came jogging along behind me. “Jesus, Chloe, wait up. Where’s the fire?” Spinning around, I snorted at him.

“Seriously? I texted you because I was stuck in the restroom while Gibson Barclay was hitting a home run in front of me, and your response was for me to take pictures?” Stomping to his truck still mad, I reached out and jerked the handle, but nothing happened. Kace’s blasé attitude about my feelings made me too angry to realize that he had yet to unlock it.

Kace caught up to me and looked concerned. Taking my face in his hands, he dipped his knees to look into my eyes. “Babe, you weren’t serious about that Gibson thing were you?” Seeing his ashen face made me realize that he had been joking in his text.

“Why would you think I’d make joke about something like that, Kace?” Searching his face, I was still angry that he had taken it so lightly. Kace realizing I was angry puffed out his cheeks, dropped his hands from my head and thrust them deep into his front jeans pockets with his arms looking straight and awkward.

“Everyone jokes about how promiscuous he is, Chloe. It isn’t like saying something like that would cause offense to most people. Gibson’s slutty behavior is a standing joke around campus.” I knew that but it wasn’t helping me get my point across.

“Kace, this is
me
. I’m not everyone. And, if this is your idea of apologizing, just save it and take me home please, I’ve had enough disappointment about men for one evening.” Glancing up at him again, I could see the penny had dropped and he knew how seeing that had affected me.

Looking remorsefully at me, Kace pulled me into his chest and kissed the top of my head. “Jeez, I’m sorry, honey.” In the two years we’d been together, this was the first time Kace hadn’t read the situation right and there was no way I was about to let Gibson Barclay, or anyone like him, interfere with what we had as a couple.

Witnessing Gibson doing those things with those girls gave me feelings I didn’t want to feel about him, and there was no point in thinking that way, anyway. We were poles apart socially and in every other way for that matter.
