She would be completely at his mercy, unable to get away as she struggled for air. He’d let her swallow enough of a breath to allow him to do it to her all over again. He’d shake her like a rag doll, so hard her neck might snap if he wasn’t careful.

But he’d be careful. He wouldn’t want to ruin his new toy. If he got tired of her, he’d discard her like he had the others. Carly was special, though. He might never lose interest in his Carly.

And that’s what he considered her. As his. If she enjoyed their sexual play willingly, then he just might go a little easier on her than the two he had gotten rid of and he might keep her always.

Now he had to lay his plans for the future. He left the stand of trees and walked back toward the home he rented.

His mood improved and he whistled a tune from a song he barely remembered. He could wait her out. He was good at waiting. Look at how long it had been since the last time he had worked to make her belong to him. Of course the stint in prison hadn’t helped and the fact that she’d gotten married had complicated things.

But fate had a way of making things right.

When he reached his house and made his way inside, he shot the metal door’s bolt lock and used a key on the other lock.

He thought about the remote house that he’d outfitted just for Carly. The people who owned it were out of the country for the next six months. He’d tried to rent it but the people pulled it off the market instead.

To hell with them. He intended to use it anyway. It might even be better since they would have no reason to suspect him when they saw that their place had been altered. He’d make sure it was wiped down clean so that no prints would be left.

He’d already prepared one of the rooms. It was a simple room containing only a stripped-down bed. In the center of the floor was a metal ring with chains and shackles attached to it.

Not only would she be locked in but also she couldn’t go out the shuttered and barred window. She wouldn’t even be able to get far from her bed. The farthest she’d be able to go was to the small portable toilet. When she’d need a shower, he would go in with her. He would wash her, take care of her, do everything for her that she would ever need.

She would be his prisoner. His to do with whatever he wanted to…and he wanted to do a lot with her.

Being with Carly had been a long time coming. A long, long time.

Chapter 18

Carly was exhausted by the time they reached Dillon’s ranch. Something about the day had been mentally and even physically draining and although it was still early, she just wanted to sleep.

But the moment they walked through his front door and he closed it behind them, it felt like a weight dropped from her shoulders and the sleepiness fell away. Dillon hugged her and she rested her head against his shoulder.

“Thank you for coming to my rescue.” Her words were muffled against his chest. “I don’t know if anything would have happened, but I feel safe with you.”

“Anytime, anyplace.” He kissed the top of her head. “I will always be there for you, Carly.”

She reached up and brushed her lips over his. “Thank you.”

He squeezed her tight to him. Her stomach growled and he laughed. “Come on,” he said. “Let’s get you some dinner.”

While Dillon fired up the grill, she started boiling potatoes and making a salad. When it was time for dinner, they had T-bone steaks, mashed potatoes, green beans, and salad.

During dinner they talked about Geoff and what had happened during the day and what he’d done. They’d discussed it on the drive from Nogales to Patagonia but there was still a lot to go over.

After a while, their conversation turned to family and friends and Dillon’s new niece who everyone spoiled lavishly. She had three uncles who adored her and would likely all be carrying shotguns when the girl was old enough to date. The brothers and Danica’s Aunt Grace was on hand to give the new parents plenty of welcome advice. Aunt Grace had raised the five Cameron siblings when their parents had died in an accident. Danica had been just a baby when that happened.

Carly watched Dillon as he spoke, loving the cut of his strong features, the blue of his eyes, the slight wave to his brown hair. The power he exuded was almost tangible, and the strength in his body made her want to touch him everywhere. She enjoyed the sound of his voice, the deep timber of it, and his western drawl.

He had a way of looking at her that made her feel warm and tingly inside. It was a look that a man gave a woman who he cared for… It was the kind of intent stare that sent her heart reeling.

She was drawn to him in so many ways that it made her head spin… And she knew the honest truth of it. She’d fallen for him hard, fallen for him in every way imaginable. It was something she had to admit to herself, and she knew there was no going back. She might end up with a broken heart but she had to take the chance. If she didn’t, she knew she’d face a lifetime of regrets.

After the dinner dishes were cleaned and put away, they walked into the living room and he took her into his arms. “Ready for bed?” he asked as he held her.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him tighter to her. “I can think of a really good bedtime activity.”

He smiled and they moved together, their lips meeting. He kissed her with a strength of passion that had her wanting to climb up his big body and hang on for a good long ride.

Their kiss grew deeper, almost furious in its intensity. He turned them around and pressed her up against the wall, his hands braced on either side of her and caging her in as he kissed her. She couldn’t move and she felt his erection hard against her belly.

Her mind swam and she grew lightheaded with want and need. He moved his hands down and caught her ass and brought her up and she wrapped her legs around his hips. She hung onto his neck as he drew away from her and carried her to his bedroom.

He sat her feet on the floor and was almost wild as he tugged off her T-shirt followed by her royal blue bra. She was glad she’d gone for the sexy lingerie that she’d worn to make herself feel better. He helped her out of her sandals then unbuttoned her jeans and pushed them down to her ankles. Next went her panties and she kicked them aside with her jeans.

When she was naked, he paused long enough to give her body an appreciative look that warmed her all over. And then they were stripping him out of his clothing, from his boots and socks to his western shirt to his belt and jeans. Their movements were frantic, needy. She wanted him and she wanted him now, and she knew he felt the same way about her. This wasn’t going to be tender, gentle lovemaking. This was going to be raw and exciting like they both wanted at this moment.

“Crawl up onto the bed on your hands and knees.” His voice was rough as he instructed her.

As she obeyed, she heard the sound of a foil wrapper just before the bed dipped with his weight. She was still on her hands and knees when he grabbed her from behind, jerked her backward, and drove his cock inside her.

She cried out in surprise as he started fucking her hard, his hips slamming against her ass. He reached forward and grasped her breasts then played with her nipples, causing her to moan and squirm back against him.

While one of his hands continued to play with her nipple, he moved his other hand down her belly to her folds and he began rubbing her clit. She moaned again, louder this time, rocking with every one of his thrusts.

It felt good and deep and a thrill went through her when he placed his hand on the back of her neck in a dominant movement, pushing her head down to the mattress so that her cheek was against the comforter. She loved the feeling of his dominance, loved being his to take any way that he wanted to.

An orgasm built up inside her and she panted hard as he took her and stroked her clit. She felt the intensity of her climax rushing toward her at a crazy speed. Her body started to vibrate and she thought she wouldn’t be able to breathe again. Her orgasm burst inside her, rocketing through her. She came hard, her body shaking with the power of her climax as her channel gripped his cock.

He slammed himself in and out a few more times then paused long enough to turn her onto her backside so that she was looking up at him. Her eyes widened at the primal look in his blue eyes, the fierceness in his expression. His jaw was tight and sweat beaded on his brow.

She felt another orgasm rising as their gazes held, an incredible thunderstorm of sensation as every part of her body started to prickle, like lightning sparking at her nerve endings. She climaxed again, white light sparking in her mind, her body alive with an explosive power.

His eyes never left hers as he slammed against her harder and harder yet. His body vibrated and he nearly growled as he came. He continued to pump his hips and she felt his cock throbbing inside her and he shuddered as he finally reached the end of his orgasm.

He kissed her hard before pulling out of her and settling her onto her side, facing him. He ditched the condom then brought her into his arms. Perspiration coated their skin and the scent of sex filled the air. He brushed damp hair from her face and she smiled.

“You’re an amazing woman, Carly.” His gaze held hers as he continued to stroke her hair. “Do you know how special you have become to me?”

“You’re kind of special to me, too.” She placed her hand on his damp chest, feeling his heart beating beneath her palm. “It just took me a little while to admit it.”

“You’ve said it now.” His look was almost serious. “There’s no taking it back.”

“Never.” She brushed her lips over his. “I mean what I say.”

His lips curved into a smile and he brought his forehead to hers. “I have no doubt.”

She snuggled into his embrace, breathing in his scent, feeling the comfort of his hard body next to hers. Yeah, she could certainly get used to this man and being in his arms.

Chapter 19

“I’ll be fine.” Carly put her hand on Dillon’s chest. “Stop worrying.” She had stayed with him for two days and had decided she needed to get a few things from her house.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to come?” He moved his hand from where it had been braced on one of corral’s metal railings and took off his gloves and shoved them in his back pocket. He wore a work shirt, faded Wrangler jeans, and worn dusty boots. He looked so sexy she wanted to jump him.

She smiled as he put his hand over hers. “I’m only going in long enough to grab some clothes and my laptop. I can’t believe I left it—usually it’s glued to my fingertips.”

He studied her, his features intent. “If there’s any sign of him, you get out of there, okay?”

She reached up and kissed him. “Okay.”

He released her hand as she took a couple of steps back, their gazes still locked, and then she gave a little wave and turned and headed for her Jeep. She glanced over her shoulder and saw that he was watching her.

After she’d climbed into her vehicle, started it and backed it up, she gave him a little wave and headed back to Patagonia.

She turned on her iPod that was connected to her sound system and listened to more of the last audio book she’d put on. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo had been a good movie but she was enjoying the book even more. She liked to read on her e-book reader, too. She always had at least two books going.

When she pulled onto her drive, she was lost in the story. The book had a good narrator who made it more enjoyable to listen to.

She cut the Jeep’s engine once she’d parked and climbed out as she thought about one of the twists in the plot that was better explained in the book than it had been in the movie. She made her way to the front door, unlocked it, then shut the door behind her.

Her house seemed somewhat alien and her mind shifted to why she hadn’t been here for a couple of days. It seemed as though there was a subtle difference in the air and she frowned. Something about it made her heart beat a little faster.

She found her laptop where she’d left it and grabbed it before she headed down the hall to her bedroom. She set the laptop on her bed and then went to her closet and dragged out a suitcase that she used as a carry-on when she traveled. First things first—she started with her lingerie drawer.

The small hairs at the nape of her neck prickled and she went still as she felt a subtle shift in the air. She looked over her shoulder at the door to her bedroom. Nothing. It was just her nerves spooking her, but she hurried to pack clothes and a few other items.

A sound jerked her head up, a noise like the squeak of a shoe against tile in the hallway. Chills rolled down her spine. Her heart seemed to move up to her throat and she couldn’t swallow. She glanced over her shoulder again but saw nothing. Still, she looked around the room for her phone and remembered that it was in her purse, which was on the bed.

Don’t be jumping at shadows, Carly, she told herself as she moved toward the foot of the bed. But even as she hurried toward it, she knew it wasn’t the shadows that were waiting for her outside the door. Someone was here… And there was only one person it could be.

“Come here, Carly.” Geoff’s voice came from her bedroom doorway and she whirled to face him, her heart thrumming. He crooked a finger in a motion meant for her to go to him and she saw that his hands were gloved and he was wearing a ball cap.

“You’d better leave.” She swallowed down a scream that would do her no good. No one lived close enough to her to hear. Her mind raced as she tried to stall him. “Dillon’s going to be here any time.”

“Then we should get going.” Geoff stepped closer to her and she backed up around her bed. She swallowed. Now the bed and Geoff were between her and the door.

“Stay away.” She frantically looked for something to throw, anything she might use to hurt him.

“Don’t be this way. Let’s just make this all easy.” He sounded slightly exasperated with her, as if she was a child not listening to a parent.

“Get out of here.” Adrenaline had kicked in and it rushed through her body, causing her whole body to shake.

“We don’t have time for this.” His expression went from patient to angry so fast it caused her to hesitate.
