“They wanted to give us a reward!” Kalliope blurted out.
Aitan stared at her. Ligia looked puzzled.
“Yeah. Westland Electric has offered to pay for us to be hooked up to the Eastland supply,” Rechavia informed them.
Ligia frowned, and then looked a little warily at Aitan.
“Have you told them we ain’t interested?” Aitan hadn’t taken his eyes off Rechavia as Ligia watched him. Her heart leapt.
“No. This is a democracy, remember? I seem to recall our women making damn sure we didn’t forget that fact in the future. I intend putting it to an island poll later today.” Rechavia grinned. “I just thought, in the circumstances, you might prefer to give your vote by proxy.”
“Too right we would.” Aitan turned to his wife. “Ligia, darlin’, how would you like to vote in this?”
She sighed. “I’m still against it.” She bit her lip.
“Well that’s settled then. My wife has spoken. Just you tell them thanks all the same but Mr. and Mrs. Daoud don’t want their electricity at any price, even free. Now will you please close that dang window as you leave, as my wife and I are on our honeymoon, in case you’d forgotten?”
They indulged in another sweet kiss as they heard chuckles outside their window, and Rechavia kindly pulled the shutters across—eventually!

Bella’s love of writing started at a very young age. While at Junior School, she was once asked to write a story that was to be displayed on the window due to lack of wall space (remember Portakabins?) Unfortunately, once she gets going she tends to run with an idea right up until the conclusion—and it has to have a happy ending! The story was so long it covered several windows and caused a blackout in the tiny classroom!
She is British and lives in the beautiful Shropshire countryside with one of her three gorgeous daughters and her wonderful husband, often referred to as her “current husband” just to keep him on his toes!
They live in a big haunted house therefore Bella’s housework is never done as the ghost keeps moving things around—the bedroom isn’t the only place where things go bump in the night ;)
Open-top cars and country music are among Bella’s favourite things and her fondness of shopping is only surpassed by her love of Châteauneuf-du-pape.
