Introduction

In the beginning there was no need. There was order,
but as time passed there arose the law of chaos and
there became a need for a return to balance, elements
needed to be adjusted to restore order to the cosmos.

In a universe near the center of the cosmos a race
evolved from this need for restoring balance - they
were known as Kalactins. Their role was to find ways
of helping maintain the balance of forces or recover
balance wherever it had been lost. The transmission
of very subtle energies played a great role in
maintaining this order and the mechanism for
adjusting and transmitting these energies turned out to
be through what is called organic life. Therefore
planets throughout the universe were seeded with
organic life to maintain this fragile balance. Each life
form had a role to play and each life form understood
its inherent role in the balance of everything.
Kalactins became known as Sentinels of the Cosmos
and their job was to maintain this balance of energies.
The Kalactins seeded countless worlds with various
life forms in the ever ending quest for this delicate
balance. When a life form mutated or lost or forgot its
purpose it was the role of the Sentinels to discover the
problem and restore order.

One of the Sentinels was a young Kalactin named
Beneizen who with his life mate Tamalin had seeded
a planet in our solar system called earth. It naturally
evolved a species called human beings. Earth
originally had two moons but as time went on the
earth lost one of these two moons throwing the
humans into a state of chaos. They started killing each
other, damaging the very fabric of their environment.
It was time for an intervention.

It was the role of Beneizen and Tamalin to return to
that same planet and restore the balance. Now
returning alone; his life-mate having perished - a
terrible fate for a Kalactin, his inspection of earth
revealed that human behavior was the cause of
damage to the fabric of the cosmos. Beneizen took it
upon himself alone to try and restore the needed
order; to help these strange human creatures who had
lost their way... It was time - they needed to know
their purpose for being – why and for what purpose
they existed at all and return to play their proper role.

Chapter 1

It is the year 2041 and earth’s population had grown
to over eight billion. Climate change, ground water
depletion and deforestation had affected the food
supply and starvation had already become a reality for
billions of people. Something dramatic needed to be
done but governments were paralyzed, unable to
decide on what to do. An effective world
organization where countries could come together
with a common purpose was needed. A more global
vision was required rather than the concept of the
rights and needs of individual countries; there had to
be a change.

*****
The concept of EOJ, the Eagles of Justice had been
presented to both houses of Congress of the United
States of America in 2016 but never came to a vote.
The stated mission statement was ‘to keep the world
stable and to carry out directives that benefited all
humanity no matter what the price.’ When Beneizen
who had taken human form and Sam Nichols
presented a radical new technology to be used by EOJ
in secret closed meetings the objectives and the
technology was so radical that most of congress
wanted it suppressed. There were even some that
wanted Beneizen and Sam Nichols locked up or even
secretly assassinated. But there were a few members
of both houses of congress as well as the President
that saw the potential and like all humans imagined
they could control the technology and even use it for
their own views of ‘good.’
Thus a race of controllable, synthetic, humanoid life
forms called ‘Guards’ was created under the watchful
eye of a few at EOJ. The existence of this
organization was kept as secret as a ‘black ops’
group. Not even the CIA, FBI, NSA or DOD knew of
its existence.

It’s hot and sweaty in New York City, 102
0
and the
humidity is high, it’s putrid hot. Detective Chase
Stern sat alone at the end of the long bar in Sam’s
Place, a frequent hangout for NYPD cops.
Chase looked more like a bodybuilder than a cop; he
just looked out of place. He had recently been
transferred to the Central Park precinct after
recovering from a terrible accident, which had left
him with complete amnesia. He had only recently
been allowed back on the active duty roster force
under the watchful eye of his new partner, Juan
Martinez.
Juan was from Colombia; his adoptive parents had
carried him and his sister, as infants, out of Colombia,
through Panama, Honduras, and Belize and into
Mexico where they crossed into the United States as
illegal immigrants and made their way to New York.
Juan never knew his father. He was raised by his
mother, a career cleaning lady in the South Bronx.
Physically Juan was a great contrast to Chase. He was
of medium build, wiry, sporting a thin cropped
moustache, long hair tied in back in a ponytail. He
had a quiet demeanor and always appeared mild
mannered; but anger was always very close to the
surface. Juan had a wife, Esperanza and three children
Chase sat transfixed by the television above the bar.
A newsman and woman are giving an evening news
alert. It was loud and blaring out all over the room,
and no one noticed except Chase. "Tonight's news
brings us further terrible facts - world starvation has
reached epidemic proportions! Over thirty million
people have died, and people here are worried that
starvation could even affect the United States. We
are already seeing massive shortages of some foods."
Another man sitting at the bar yells to the bartender.
"Hey turn that down, it’s really depressing." The
bartender turns it down and sees Chase still staring at
screen.
Juan, Chase’s partner, enters the bar picks up Chase’s
glass and smells it.
“My God, it’s that Dr. Boner’s belly-wash, how can
you stand to drink that crap?” Juan asks.
“I like it. It’s hard to get you know. I can only order it
over the internet. It’s also very good for you. Your
body is a temple Juan and you should take care of it,
read the label.”
Juan picks the small blue can and squints to read the
print on the label. “This is the smallest print I have
even read in my life, Chase how can you drink this.
It’s got titanium in it, and mercury, who told you to
drink this?”
“The nurse gave it to me in the hospital. It makes me
feel good.”
“Really Chase, booze makes me feel good, but I don’t
drink it constantly. Well sometimes I do. The nurse
really said you must drink four of these a day?”
“They make me feel good,” says Chase as he turns
back to the bar and his shoulders slump as he stares
straight ahead lost in thought. To get his attention,
Juan pulls his left shoulder towards him. Startled,
Chase makes a fist, cocks his arm, and gestures that
he is going to sock Juan in the face.
Juan says, “What’s bothering you man, calm down,
you alright? Come on we have to hit the road. We
have to be cops; take out your bad attitude on the
guilty.”
“Yeah, I know, you ever wonder why we’re here. I
mean here, on this planet?” Chase asks.
“Yes, to make my wife happy, now come on we have
to go?” Juan says pulling Chase to his feet.
Chase says, glumly, “You want to know what crawled
up my spine; what am I doing here? I don’t remember
anything about my life until a few months ago when I
met you. I don’t remember my parents, my childhood,
or my friends. It’s as though there’s a wall in my head
and there isn’t even a door I can open to see what’s
behind it. No one has even recognized me; doesn’t
that strike you as odd?”
“No, we live in New York City, most people
wouldn’t recognize the Pope, but we still have to hit
the road,” Juan says.
“How can I look like this and have been in a coma
and no one tells me anything?” Chase asks.
“Vitamins, Dr. Boner’s protein shakes, sex with the
nurses. You’re too self-involved, you’re like, morose.
What you need is a cute bitchy wife and three kids,
believe me you wouldn’t ponder the question, “Why
am I here? We have to get on the road man,” Juan is
becoming impatient.
“I hear things, Juan, I can do things and I don’t know
how I learned to do them, and it doesn’t make sense
that I’m a cop. And I’ve been having these
headaches. I mean really bad headaches. Nothing
helps!” Chase reveals.
“You’re already seeing the department shrink. Isn’t
she helping?” Juan asks.
Chase puts his hand to his forehead. There are tears in
his eyes.
“Are you alright man, maybe you should just go
home tonight,” Juan said.
“I’m not cracking up! I have a bad headache. I’m
alright. I have this bizarre feeling in myself that wants
to play the piano, but how could I! I’ve never played
the piano but I’m drawn to it.”
“How do you know? Maybe you did. Chase you were
in a coma for three years. Try it man, maybe you
played it before you got messed up,” Juan says.
Chase walks over to the piano in the bar and sits
down. He just sits there looking at the closed piano
cover. People in the bar sense something and they all
quiet down. This is a cop bar and between shifts the
place is jumpin.’ They start yelling obscenities at
Chase, this large muscle-bound man that looks more
like Hercules than a piano player. He opens the lid
and lays his massive fingers on the piano keys. He’s
suddenly seized with fear and closes the lid again.
“No man, try it,” Juan cheers him on.
Chase again opens the lid and by this time the entire
bar has become very quiet. “Chase, what the hell you
doin?’ you can’t play the piano,” yells Bill Black one
of his fellow detectives. Another yells, “The only
thing you can play with is your dick.” There is
general laughter and commotion.
Chase opens the lid again, his hands falling on the
keys differently this time, his back straightens, his
shoulders relax and he starts to play the last
movement of Prokoviev’s Sonata No. 7. Needless to
say this is one of the harder pieces of piano literature,
but for a large rugged member of the NYPD to start
playing classical music in a hot bar on the Upper
West Side of Manhattan was something that even
men and women in the rest rooms came staggering
out pulling up their pants to witness.
Chase stops as suddenly as he had started. There isn’t
a sound in the bar. People just stare at him.
“I guess before my accident, I played the piano,”
Chase says meekly.
Bill Black a large hulking detective comes over to
Chase and says, “What was that crap you played?
Give me some Motown, bro,” Bill says.
“Lay off him Bill,” Juan says to Bill Black.
“Juan, your partner is a freak, he’s dangerous, and
he’s going to get someone killed. I guess I shouldn’t
care, because it’s probably going to be you,” Bill
pushes Juan in the chest with his finger.
Chase grabs Bill by the throat, and lifts him straight
off the floor, saying, “Don’t mess with my partner
and don’t mess with me.”
Bill tries to free himself. But Chase tightens the grip,
and then suddenly he let’s go. Bill tumbles to the
floor gasping for air.
“Take it easy Chase,” Juan says.
Bill rises to his knees and grabs his throat. He stands
up and takes a swing at Chase. Chase catches his
hand in mid-air and starts to squeeze and watches
dispassionately as Bill again drops to his knees. He
lets him go again.
“You’re a freak, you're a sick freak, get away from
me,” Bill says as he walks away slowly rubbing his
hand and throat.
The bar slowly goes back to its normal babble.
Chase, that was amazing. Where did you learn to
make moves like that? You remember anything?”
Juan asks.
“Nothing, not one thing!” he replies.
“You remember playing the piano as a kid, piano
lessons?”

Chase shakes his head.
“That was freaky man; very cool could you go do that
again?”
“I don’t know, maybe. I don’t even know the name of
the piece,” Chase replied.
“You is one sad twisted case kid, you don’t know
nothin’ about yourself do you? Now that’s amnesia. It
must be real frustrating. Look at you act like Chuck
Norris, and now, a minute later you’re shaking like a
leaf. I’ve got to admit, you have some real issues.”
“Yeah, I guess I do,” Chase said with his heart
breaking.
He looked into his mind. It was a blank, just
blackness, nothing. He remembered nothing. The
sweat formed on his brow and he started to breathe
heavily. He knew the signs; he was having a panic
attack. “Give me the bag,” Chase said.
Juan hands him a paper bag and Chase breathes into it
and slowly comes back to himself. Bill Black comes
back over and says, “Juan you’ve got to be out of
your mind to go out with this freak.”
“You come back for more, is that it Bill, you want a
little more?” Juan says angrily.
“Ignore him. Let’s go to work,” Chase says.
Bill is a big man and Juan’s slight frame stands right
in front of Bill saying, “The one thing in life that
really scares me is that you or a cop like you would
ever become head of the department. You’re a bully
Bill and you have no compassion. In short, you’re a
big stupid pig!”
Bill takes a swing at Juan who ducks easily and Bill’s
fist goes right into the side of the bar. He recoils in
pain. Juan stands up and turns to Chase who has a big
smile on his face.
“Good move Juan and a bad hair day for Bill,” Chase
compliments him.
“Let’s go to work, are you the passenger or me,” Juan
said.
“I’d like to be in the back seat tonight,” Chase says.
“Yeah, sit back and relax,” Juan says.
Juan and Chase had worked out a great scam to fool
potential criminals. They rode around in a genuine
NYC medallion taxi. One of them would be the driver
and the other would be the passenger. They took
turns. But then suddenly Juan got a phone call.
