It is time. Proceed to the Ceremonial Chamber.

“Your great-grandmother?”

“Yep. And it’s best not to keep the Great Mother waiting.”

“In that case…” She jumped to her feet and pulled him up
with her. She took a deep breath to shift her focus and pictured them flying
like birds above the water. Her thought manifested instantly. Brett laughed
aloud when their feet touched down on the wooden deck of the hut.

“I guess it’s really true what they say about the females
being more powerful than the males.” He gave her a quick kiss and led her
through the narrow doorway, back into the contemporary room of Shadowling
Manor.

“Home sweet home,” Nicole said with a smile. “So, is there
anything I should know before meeting your…the Great Mother?”

He shook his head. “Not really. It’s just a brief, but
formal, induction ceremony. Call it a magickal
meet-and-greet
.”

“Then we probably should get dressed.” With a wiggle of her
fingers and a wave of her hand, she dressed them in the clothing they had shed
earlier.

“Very good. But it’s a little more formal than this.” He
moved his hand and her clothing changed into a full-length, long-sleeved robe
made of a pale-blue satin. Quite different from her feminine apparel, Brett was
cloaked in plain brown muslin. As she appraised him curiously, he pulled his
robe’s hood over the top of his head.

“Tradition,” he said simply. “Light-blue is the color of the
Novitiate. When you ascend to Apprentice, you will wear white, the same as the
Great Mother.”

As they left the room and headed for the Ceremonial Chamber,
Nicole smiled up at the man who was now bound to her forever. She understood,
without a single doubt, she was exactly where she was supposed to be.
