Shifter Witch On Hell's Road: Book One (3 page)

Chapter Three

B-Zar pushed his head through the beaded curtain.

“Better get out here,” he said through clenched teeth. His face was red and his
black eyes glowed.

I jumped up and put on my bra and g-string as quickly as possible and slipped into my shoes. As
I soon as stepped out from the lap dance booth a snarling red skinned dude with black eyes and sharp black claws fell right into me. I screeched and watched it fall to the ground. B-Zar stood shirtless in his sarong with a two foot long samurai sword in his right hand. The demon slid to the ground, leaving a trail of blood over my mostly nude body.

“Rude,” I said.

“Here,” said B-Zar handing me a katana that was twin to his sword. I took it wondering what the heck I was supposed to do with it, but a demon attacked me before I could give it much thought.

I slashed at the red bitch quick as lightening. Her claws grasped at my face
, but she fell back as I slashed across her midsection. I was dumbstruck when she grabbed for me again. B-Zar swung his blade and her head rolled to the floor just before her body made a loud thump after it.

I looked at the blade and it glowed in my hand. A gang of five more demons came at us and we defended our position, back to back. Suddenly, my body was moving in swift movements I’d only ever seen before in kung fu mov
ies. I kicked an oncoming demon. It countered, but I swung around in a flying jump and cut off its head.

Two came at me at once. I ducked under a clawed swipe but the second demon kicked me in the jaw. I
tumbled backward. B-Zar was busy with two demons of his own. I jumped to my feet. My raven wings flew out of my back and curled around me like an avenging black angel.

The demons weren’t impressed and slashed at me
again. One caught me across the arm, sending streams of blood down my bicep and forearms. The wound stung bad as the blood trickled to the floor, but I held my ground. They circled me. Their mouths were full of saliva and blood dripped from their sharp black teeth. Was B-Zar really half of one of these thing? Gross. He just had his fingers in my pussy!

I flew up above them, but m
y wings would only carry my weight for a few seconds in this form. I flipped behind one, grabbed him by the head, and slashed his throat. Then I used the weight of his body to throw off his partner who ran toward me. I knocked the second one down and used the split second before he got back up to jump on his body and shove my sword deep in his heart.

Those down
, I snapped my head around to look at B-Zar. The biggest demon in the group had a sword of his own that he used to brutally attack B-Zar. The demon was about twice B-Zar’s mass, and my Halfling was falling back toward the wall. I jumped up, letting my wings propel me in the air. I used force the of gravity from my fall to slam my sword thrust into the demon’s back. My sword went through its chest but the giant demon didn’t fall.

It
jerked around and threw me to the floor. Its black beady eyes squinted, and its mouth twisted in a sneer. My sword was stuck in his back, and I lay on the floor defenseless. It hulked toward me, saliva and blood dripping from its gaping mouth. Just as it swiped for my exposed flesh, B-Zar jumped on its back and slit its throat. Blood gaped from the wound and flowed across the floor. I crawled backward, not wanting the disgusting goo to touch me. But I was already covered in blood— theirs and mine.

B-Zar held out his hand and pulled me up. My bra had flipped open and my tits hung out, nipples erect from excitement and dread. I pulled the sword from the demon’s back and wiped it on his red skin.

“What was that all about?”

“You summoned me and you summoned them. The difference is, I’m here to protect you from them.”

“Heh?”

We’ve got to move. The humans are staring.”

We walked
through of the club as the demon bodies evaporated into dust. People who had been huddled under tables and doorways began to creep out into the dim light of the club.

“I need to get my car keys.”

I ran into the dressing room and opened my padlock. I pulled out my backpack and as I walked past the mirror I saw myself. I looked like I’d grown two inches. My body was covered in black and red streaks, an angry wound slashed down my left arm, but I’d never looked so alive. My eyes glowed green and my hair looked like black raven feathers ruffling in the wind. I smiled and winked at myself.

Outside B-Zar was waiting. He was already clean and dressed in normal street clothes.

“Here,” he said, throwing a sheet over my bloody, nearly nude body.

We ran out of the club into the rainy
, dark night. Christmas lights twinkled in falling rain drops. I had to giggle. We reached the car and jumped inside. I was in full on hysterics by the time I turned the key in the ignition.

“What?” said B-Zar?

“I don’t know, it’s just funny.”

I pulled out of the parking lot and drove out of Portland and got on I5 headed south. I had no idea where I was going. My next club was in San
Francisco, but I had so many questions running through my head that the club tour seemed like the least of my concerns. I drove for twenty miles before either of us said anything.

“So what was that all about?”

“I told you before that I am a half demon. You summoned me.”

“I never summoned you,” I said, giving him an annoyed look.

“When you turned. When you became a witch, your energy sent out a beacon that summoned me to you. I am here to protect you.”

“Why would a demon want to protect me from demons?”

Although many beings are technically demons, they are not all necessarily evil. I, for example, am the son of a human woman and a fire imp. But dear old dad is more of an elemental. Whenever someone lights a fire, they summon a fire imp like him.”

“So imps can mate with humans?”

“Yes. It doesn’t happen very often, but my mother has a high pain threshold.”

“What? Gross. I don’t even what to know.”

“Back to demon races. There are earthy demons and hellions. Most earthly demons serve some function on this plane of existence, like my father. Earth demons, angels, and hellions or hell demons, are all related similarly to how all fish are related or all primates are related. But there is clearly a difference between a chimp and a human.”

“I still don’t get how demons can mate with humans.”

“Supernatural creatures are essentially humanoid. Humans descended from supernatural creatures, but their line lost all its power and became mortal.”

“So what is your roll in all of this?”

“When I came of age, I was initiated into a coven of halflings whose ancient role is to fight the hellions. Or more precisely, to train and protect the human witches whose job it is to fight the hellions. You see, you are a demon slayer.”

“Wait, this is confusing. You’re s
aying it’s my job to fight the Hellions, and your job to train and protect me?”

“Exactly. You learn quickly.”

“So why do you keep trying to get in my pants? Why didn’t you just tell me all this up front?”

“The bond between protector and slayer is increased if they copulate.”

We drove in silence for a few miles when I realized I was still nearly naked and streaked with dried blood. Only a thin, wet sheet covered my shoulders.
Not my favorite.
I pulled off the highway onto a dark country road. The rain pelted down in front of me headlights, illuminating lines of water that fell from the darkness. We drove past farm fields full of grazing cattle and fields that were barren and plowed under for winter.

I t
urned down another road that led up hill into a dense forest. I didn’t know where I was going. I just wanted to go so deep into the wet, green woods that I could forget about everything. I kept driving up until I pulled off the road near a cliff’s edge, and got out of the car.

There was a metal safety rail between my car and the cliff
, and I looked down into the dark river below. The sound of water rushed beneath me. Rain fell over my bloody skin, washing the evidence of the battle into the soil under my bare feet.

Balthazar
opened his door. He wore his sarong and his bare chest glistened with rain in the headlights. He came to me and took me in his strong arms. My body felt small and fragile against his commanding form. He pulled me into him, and I felt the stiffness of his cock against my hip.

I melted into him as his mouth sucked on my neck. My arms reached up around his shoulders and I held
him close, melting into his hard body. I felt a serge of desire well up from my pussy and overflow through my mouth. I moaned.

The rain fell down on us, drenching us both. My hair dripped wet. My body heaved.
Balthazar’s hand reached up and pulled my string bikini bra down off my breast. He leaned down and teased my nipple with is raspy tongue.

I reached inside his sarong and found his cock. It was huge and bulging in my hand. I gripped tight and stroked its length, feeling him shutter under my touch. He wheeled
us around and pinned me against the car. It rumbled from an idling motor. He lifted me up to his waist and pushed his fingers inside my g-string and pushed his tongue in my mouth. I let him inside me praying for sweet release, but headlights from a truck barreled down the road straight at us. Balthazar turned me and hid me from the intrusive lights.

I quickly came out of the sex trance and realized I was freaking cold
. My arm still throbbed from a stinging claw scratch. I shivered violently and climbed into the back seat of the car to find something to patch up my arm. Balthazar climbed in behind me as I peeled off my wet stripper gear. I found a fuzzy sweatshirt to towel off my body. Balthazar tore apart a white T-shirt and wrapped the strips around my arm.

“I’m so cold,” I stuttered.

He leaned over the front seats and turned the heat up to high. I began to thaw out as I pulled on a pair of sweat pants, a sweater, and fuzzy warm socks. Balthazar was suddenly dry and wearing his street clothes again. He pulled me into him and rubbed my right arm to increase the warmth.

“How do you do that?” I said, still kind of chattering.

“Do what, my dear?”

“Change your c
lothes, pop in and out of space? Aren’t you just half supernatural?”

“Yes, but these are my gifts. You’re gifts are equally impressive, and you are human.”

He held me tight and kissed the top of my head. I suddenly felt very tired. My eyes fluttered, and I blacked out.

***

Balthazar shifted out of space and left Eva sleeping in the back of her car. She’d be fine until morning. The demons would not attempt another attack so soon.

His form materialized. H
e stood in front of a Gothic mansion deep in a snow covered Romanian forest. A massive iron gate stood in front of him. Its repellent force could be felt even ten paces back.

He’d dressed himself like a gentleman, in the style the elder
halflings respected. His long wool coat clung to his muscled form tapering to his slim waist. His hands were covered in black leather gloves.

Balthazar looked up into the security camera that examined him from below a carved stone gargoyle. He showed his teeth in a comic smile. He always felt ridiculous coming back to base, standing outside the front gate like some kind of suspect.

He gave a little wave to the security camera and the gate swung open. He strode through and the gate slammed behind him as he walked to the front door of the mansion. The building towered above in a series of rising turrets guarded by gargoyles and capped with spikes.

He knocked the wrought iron knocker encased in a gargoyle’s mouth. The sound echoed through the deep
evergreen forest that surrounded the estate. The door opened revealing a tall woman in a tight black dress. A mane of black hair fell down her back. Her black eyes flashed and a sneering smile curved over her lips.

“Hello, Bast,” he said.

“Nice to see you, Balthazar,” she purred.

She opened the door and he walked through to stand
in a large entrance hall surrounded by ornately framed paintings of ancient halflings.

“What brings you home?”

“I need to speak with Dagon and the council of elders.”

“We are convening in the meeting hall just now.”

She took his coat, revealing Balthazar’s black pin-stripe suit underneath. She led him through the maze of hallways and rooms until they stood before a heavy, carved oak door. She opened it and Balthazar passed inside. The room was hung with tapestries recounting the tales of ancient battles. A massive carved stone fireplace dominated the far end of the hall. The center was filled with a long baroque table lined with high backed chairs. The chairs were occupied by various halfling elders whose appearance varied as much as the multitude of human races. Bast sat at the head of the table near the door.
