Then he kissed her long and deep. They were interrupted by the sound of applause, and when they looked up, Lady Carina and Henri Delucci and Michaela were standing in the doorway in their dressing gowns, beaming. Carina and Michaela were in tears.
“That was beautiful,” Carina sobbed.
“So this is the man you fell in love with in Africa?” smiled Henri.
“Yes,” beamed Shilo, “This is the man I would rather be married to than that perverted, sick, poor excuse of a man you had on the cards for me.”
Suddenly Stratt swept her off her feet and into his arms. He carried her past them, and down the stairs.
“Where are you going?” asked Michaela.
“To a hotel for the rest of the night,” said Stratt. “We’ll see you guys later!”
He carried her down the sweeping staircase, out of the front door into the flurry of snow and the waiting taxi.
