LUNDBERG FAMILY FARMS

For as long as I can remember, the only rice we have used in our restaurants is Lundberg, which is organically grown in California. The many rices from the Lundbergs’ family-operated farms are unfailingly delicious and of the highest quality. Their old-fashioned, earnest efforts at farming organically with environmental consciousness have remained unchanged over the years.

The company traces its roots back to 1937, when Albert and Frances Lundberg left western Nebraska with their four sons, Eldon, Wendell, Harlan, and Homer. During the Dust Bowl years, Albert saw huge tracts of land across the Midwest erode. Nutrient-giving organic matter had disappeared from the soil, and fierce winds created enormous dust clouds that made life miserable and farming impossible. Albert decided to move his family to Richvale, to begin a new life of farming in Northern California. The Sacramento Valley was the perfect setting for Albert Lundberg to pass on his legacy to his four sons.

The four Lundberg brothers were deeply influenced by their father. They believed in ecological farming long before it was fashionable. Influenced by the Dust Bowl, which was such an ecological and agricultural catastrophe, they have developed a special relationship with nature. For almost seventy years, Lundberg Family Farms has been using methods of farming that are beneficial for the soil, wildlife, air, and water.

“We believe healthy soil will produce healthy food. We believe the soil is a living thing, and as such, needs to be fed and cared for,” says Harlan Lundberg.

This special concern for the environment is equaled only by the company’s concern for product quality. Today, Lundberg Family Farms specializes in farming organic brown rice and manufactures over 150 rice products, including wild rice and multigrain pilafs. They work hard to provide consumers with rice and rice products of superior quality, wholesomeness, and flavor. And it shows in their products.
