Chapter Six

“We are standing half-naked in your bedroom. I don’t think a good night kiss would be a good idea,” Jenisha muttered.

Clinton
knew she wanted the kiss as much as he did, maybe more. He ran his hands up and down her slender back. “I swear I won’t allow the kiss to get out of hand, but I need something to dream about tonight.”

Titling her head to the side, Jenisha stared up at him. “I guess can spare one kiss for you, but remember your promise.”

Trying to keep the grin off his face,
Clinton
slid his fingers through her hair and cupped the back of her head “After this kiss I’ll have you dreaming about me tonight too,” he promised.

He opened her mouth slowly with his tongue and allowed her to get to the feel of it in her mouth. Exploring the recesses of her mouth with the tip of his tongue, he learned the unique taste of her. A small whimper of longing came from her lips before she parted her lips more.
Clinton
almost lost it then. The need to have Jenisha in his bed kicked up another ten degrees. He couldn’t stop his arousal from leaping to life. It only got worse when Jenisha wrapped her arms around his neck and tried to deepen the kiss.

“Jenisha,” he whispered against her moist lips. He took a couple of quick nibbles at the side of her mouth. He knew if he didn’t end the drugging kisses now, he wouldn’t be able to later.

Clinton
placed his hands on Jenisha’s hips and shoved her away from his body. “No…we need to stop.” The need to dominate her body called to him, but he forced it back now. He wanted more than that with her. He wanted to love her with everything in his body.

“What? Why?” Jenisha whispered.

She tried to move back in his arms, but he shoved her away again. The smoky sound of her voice almost made him rethink his decision. Her eyes were filled with desire as she searched his face for answers. Her body language begged him to carry her to his bed behind them, but he wouldn’t do it. He promised that he would only kiss her and, as much as he hated it, he would keep his word.

Wrapping his hand around her wrist,
Clinton
pulled Jenisha back over to the door. He needed to get her out of his room before he changed his mind.

“What are you doing?” Jenisha whispered, glancing down at his arm.

“You need to leave right now or I won’t be able to resist throwing you on the bed.”
I must be in love to be sending her back to her own bedroom.

“Are you sure I can’t stay a little longer? We can talk or something.”

He stopped at the door and jerked Jenisha against his body. “Does it feel like I want to talk with you tonight?” He was trying so hard to be a gentleman, but Jenisha was making it so difficult on him. Why couldn’t she just leave?

Her lids slipped down over her eyes and she shook her head. “No…it doesn’t feel like you just want to talk tonight. So, I better go.”

Finally!
he thought.
Now maybe I can get my body back under control or I’m going to have a long restless night ahead of me
. But he had to make sure Jenisha didn’t go away hurt. Brushing her hair back off her face, he wrapped his fingers around her chin. “Look at me.”

Jenisha raised her eyes. She looked him directly in the eyes. “I better go,” she whispered.

He shook his head. “Not before I tell you how much I enjoyed your visit. I would love for you to stay longer, but I can’t let you. You’re too much of a temptation this late at night. Now, if you’re ready for us to make love. I can stay all night long and I promise to make it a night for you to remember.”

“I’m not ready for that yet.”

He knew she would say no, and that was fine with him. “That’s okay, precious. I don’t want to rush you into anything.” He placed a kiss on her forehead. Opening the door, he gently pushed her out into the hallway. “I’ll see you in the morning.”

“Okay… I’ll see you then, too.” Jenisha replied and turned in the direction of her room.

He watched Jenisha walk down the hallway and into her room. “Jenisha…it’s only a matter of time before I hear the words I want to from your lips,” he whispered to himself. Going back into his bedroom,
Clinton
closed and locked it. He wasn’t locking Jenisha out, but himself in.

He stripped off his jeans and threw them across the chair. Lying down on the bed, he folded his hands behind his head. “Jenisha, I’ve gotten you to come this far with me. It’s only a matter of time until I get the rest.” Closing his eyes, he drifted off to sleep with a smile on his face.

*

Clinton
woke up the next morning to the smell of fresh coffee coming from the kitchen. Scratching his chest, he rolled out of the bed and headed for the shower. He couldn’t wait for this day to begin. Maybe he could talk Jenisha into spending the entire weekend with him.

Twenty minutes later he braced his shoulder against the door frame and watched Jenisha fix breakfast in the kitchen. It was a sight he could get use to seeing for the rest of his life. She looked so sexy in his shirt tied in the back with her black jeans molding those long legs of hers. He made sure he didn’t alert her to his presence. He wanted a few more minutes just to look at the woman who had stolen his heart with one glance.

He’d never thought of Jenisha as the domestic type. It almost made him a little nervous. He wasn’t used to a woman doing a single for him. Usually it was the other way around; all his other ex-girlfriends wanted him to shower them with things.

Unfortunately for him, he kept the cycle going for years because he didn’t know anything different until he met Jenisha. She hasn’t asked for anything and she knew he had money because of
Hayward
. They made over two million dollars the year before with the business. They had three new famous clients that wanted work done on their house by Campbell Construction and Design.

Jenisha was the one he knew he had been waiting for. Closing his eyes, he could hear the laughter of the children he would have with her. Unlike
Hayward
, he wanted a son to be the first born because he wanted the closeness a son gave a father. But all these fantasies wouldn’t come true if he didn’t get Jenisha to believe in their love. He loved her so much. Sometimes his breath would catch from at the sight of her, making him oblivious to any thing else going on in the room.

Massaging the back of his tired neck,
Clinton
strolled into the kitchen, “Something sure smells good this morning,” he muttered and he wasn’t talking about the food.

Jenisha laid the spatula down on the counter and faced him. “Well, good morning sleepy head. I didn’t think you would ever wake up.”

“Yeah, I didn’t realize how tired I was last night. I never oversleep. I’m a normally an early riser.”

“What caused you to sleep late this morning?” Jenisha turned back to the stove and flipped over the sausage.

“Having dreams about you in my bed all last night didn’t help. Do you know how hard it was for me not to sneak into your room?”

Jenisha threw her head back and laughed. “You would’ve had a hard time getting in since I locked my door.”

“You have to be kidding me. Did you really lock me out of a room inside my own house?” he whispered, trying to sound hurt.

“Did it ever cross your mind I was locking myself in so I wouldn’t wander back to your room?”

He laughed at Jenisha’s comment. He never knew she had such a good sense of humor. “All right, point taken.” He strolled across the room and wrapped his arms around her waist. Leaning over her shoulder, he glanced down at the bacon and sausage inside the skillet. “So, when is breakfast going to be ready? I’m starving!”

Later, seated at the kitchen table,
Clinton
filled his plate then Jenisha’s with bacon, eggs, sausage and two biscuits. He picked up his fork. He had to sample the eggs first since they were his favorite. Not everyone could fix eggs the way he liked them. The eggs looked light and flaky, but it didn’t mean they were any good. He shoved a forkful of food of into his mouth. His eyes rolled in the back of his head in pure pleasure, “Precious, if you hadn’t already taken a hold of my heart, these eggs would have done it.”

Clinton
, you remind me of a little boy with that look on your face,” Jenisha muttered waving her fork under his nose.

He dropped his fork on his plate and stared at Jenisha across the table. “In case you didn’t know, I’m very much a man. If you give me the chance in the near future, I will show you how much.”

Jenisha squirmed in her chair at his penetrating look. “I know you’re a man.”

“Yes, I believe you think you know I am a man, but sometimes I think you forget that I’m also in love with you. That changes everything, babe. I will stop at nothing to have my ring gracing your finger.”

Pushing her plate away, Jenisha stood up from the table. “Do we have to talk about this right now? I thought we settled this all last night. I do want us to date, but I don’t want to discuss plans for the future.”

“Why don’t you like me talking about us having a future? Is there something wrong with me? Did I do something wrong?”

Stacking the dishes in the sink, Jenisha turned on the water and added a few drops of dishwashing liquid. She didn’t want to get into this with
Clinton
. “Nothing’s wrong.”
Please let him drop it for once.
He doesn’t need to know about everything going on in my mind
.

“Please tell me what is wrong,”
Clinton
insisted coming up behind her.

“Nothing is wrong. I’m just so happy I can’t believe it will last.”

Clinton
wrapped his arms around her waist. His warm mouth placed a soft kiss on her temple. “Baby it will only get better if you allow me to care for you.”

She prayed it would last after
Clinton
found out her secret. Twisting around in his arms, she captured his eyes with hers. She loved the different shades of amber and green in their depths. “I have a question for you.”

“What is it?”

“Which one of us is going to tell True about us?”

Clinton
quickly moved away from her and started clearing the rest of the dishes off the table. “True is your best friend. I’ll leave that up to you.”

She picked up a dishtowel and threw it at him. It hit the side of his shoulder then fell to the floor. “Coward.”

Clinton
picked up the towel and laid it on the table. “Seriously, I think we need to keep this a secret as long as possible. You know once she finds out she’ll have a wedding planner at our doorstep. I love my sister-in-law to death, but she’s a matchmaker.”

Finishing up the breakfast dishes, Jenisha walked past
Clinton
into the living room. She took a seat on the couch and he sat down next to her. “I have to agree with you. True would be on the next plane out here helping me pick out a wedding dress. I don’t know if I’m ready for that huge of step yet, especially since I don’t know if you snore or not.”

“I have never snored a day in my life, Miss Roman.”

“How do you know for sure?” She questioned, arching an eyebrow.

“Sweetheart, the only way for you to find out is to spend a night in my bed,”
Clinton
answered.

Her mind filled with lustful thoughts about
Clinton
’s lovemaking abilities and she quickly shoved them to the side. She had to be the strong one since he wasn’t going to. “Shouldn’t we have a first date before we share a bed?” She leaned back on the couch cushions and grinned at
Clinton
.

“Damn, I hate your logical mind,”
Clinton
groaned. He reached out to touch the back of Jenisha’s hand. Leaning in, he kissed her softly on the lips. As he was about to deepen the kiss, the phone rang. Holding up one finger, he said, “Don’t forget where we were.”
