Nine months later

You’ll remember that I mentioned Ostara was a day of fertility? Well, it proved true.

“We’ll have to perform a Cesarean. It is the only way,” Corina, the Fae midwife was telling Jillian, Auberon, and I. “If we lift them out at the exact same time, yes, it should work.”

“The more power we can bring to the Light, the better,” Auberon said. “But it is up to you and Jillian. Is this what you want?”

I looked at Jillian and she nodded and squeezed my fingers. “Yes, definitely,” she replied.

Corina nodded, glamoured Jillian into believing she felt no pain and began the procedure. She made an incision in Jillian’s abdomen and used clamps to hold her flesh open wide enough that both she and another midwife could work together. They both slipped their hands into Jillian’s enlarged belly, and at the exact same moment, each of them pulled a child from her womb, thus creating the first two Light Bearers to be born at the exact same time. They smiled as they glanced at our anxiously awaiting faces. “Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Gunari, you have two very handsome baby boys.”

I smiled down at Jillian and squeezed her hand as another set of midwives whisked the babies away to be cleaned up while Corina finished up taking care of Jillian.

“I want ta see our boys,” Jillian said a few minutes later. “Where are they?” she asked impatiently.

“Here they are,” Corina replied, as she placed a bundled baby into each arm. Little tufts of red hair curled on their heads as they blinked up at Jillian.

“What will you name them?” Auberon asked.

Jillian glanced up at me and I nodded. “This one,” I said gently stroking the soft little head of the babe in Jillian’s left arm, “is Alec, Defender and Protector of the Light.”

“An’ this,” Jillian nodded at the little bundle in her right arm and with a smile, said, “is Kearney, the Valiant Warrior of the Light.”

Auberon smiled and laid his hands on both babes’ heads. “So you say, so mote it be.”

I smiled at Jillian and our newly formed little family. “Forever blessed by the Light,” I said and I felt Gaia’s power spike and flow into the two babes nestled in Jillian’s arms.

Jillian’s eyes sparkled as she, too, felt the blessings of Gaia. “Forever blessed by the Light and bound by love, mo ghrá.”
