hile Louis XV, the Sun King, was known for his mistresses and passionate affairs, his grandson and heir, Louis XVI, was not a very successful ladies’ man. For the sake of fiction, I gave the rather shy and awkward king his own moment of glory in the form of Arabella, a fiery Scottish lass with a passion for tinkering and kings.

The other half of Diana’s story, the search for Napoleon’s bride after he set aside Josephine, did indeed have agents scurrying all over the royal houses of Europe, each one bent on finding the perfect bride for their temperamental emperor.
