“Let’s try not to let anything come between us again,” she whispered.
“Never again, mon amour.”
When dinner was finished he told her to relax while he cleaned up. He and his wolf needed to take care of their mate even in the smallest of ways. They were so happy to have her back they couldn’t do enough.
She watched him work, admiring the view. He was every girl’s fantasy with his sleep-mussed hair, white T-shirt displaying his exquisite body, and his faded blue jeans that hugged his hips in the most extraordinary way...perfectly molded around his tight ass.
Stefan paused from washing dishes and grinned at her over his shoulder.
El’s face heated.
Dang, I must be thinking loudly.
In a blink, he stood before her, leaning in. She felt his warm, ragged breath on her lips as he waited for her to initiate the kiss.
When she lifted her trembling hands, her knuckles accidently grazed his bulging jeans. Stefan swayed into her touch and groaned when she pulled her hand back.
“Baby, please have mercy.”
El bit her lip and tentatively ran one finger along his length.
“For Goddess sake, El, kiss me, please.”
She shyly giggled and closed the distance.
The kiss was more desperate than he’d planned, but he also hadn’t expected her to touch him in such an intimate way.
“Tell me you’re ready to tie me up.”
The excitement she felt with her new confidence bubbled over in another giggle.
“I could be persuaded.”
He helped her from her chair and led her down the hall. At the foot of the bed he released her and awaited her instructions.
“What would you like me to do?”
She glanced around the room and frowned. “Do you have something to tie you up with?”
“In the top drawer there’s a variety of neckties.”
“Do you want me to strip?” he asked with a sexy, dimpled grin. “Or would you prefer to do that?”
She tossed four ties to the bed. “Would you help me do it?”
“Anything to please you,
mon coeur.”
While she unbuttoned his shirt, he undid his pants but left it up to her to push them from his hips. Every action she initiated and completed on her own increased her confidence a little more.
The last button slid through its buttonhole and she raised her eyes to his. A shy grin and light blush spread across her beautiful face.
As nervous as she was, she bravely pressed on and brushed the shirt from his shoulders. Unconsciously chewing her lip, she stepped back to survey her work. His belt hung free and the button on his jeans was undone with the zipper open. From what she could see he was commando!
El took a deep breath and gathered her courage, but still not quite enough to look him in the eye as she stripped him of his pants. Stefan stepped from his pooled jeans and waited.
He was gloriously aroused and unashamed. El still remained fully clothed, but he had expected that. She wouldn’t take her clothes off until he was blinded. That was fine. One baby step at a time.
“Would you lie down, please?” El asked in barely a whisper.
He was proud of her for asking at all. Without hesitation he flopped onto the bed, spread-eagle.
She snuck shy glances at his nakedness but didn’t move. He felt her apprehension beginning to rise.
“Would you like me to tie my feet?”
El nodded and continued to make a meal of her lip.
With both ankles secured, he lay back on his elbows. “Would you like to blindfold me first and then tie my hands?”
He had the feeling once he was blinded, she would relax a bit. It worked. Moments after his blindfold was in place, he felt her tying his hands.
Without his sight, his other senses increased exponentially. This might be more fun than he’d expected.
As he lay awaiting her pleasure, he could hear clothing rustle to the floor. The bed dipped under her weight and he knew she had joined him.
He took a deep breath to see how she was feeling. Arousal and excitement laced her new car scent. That was excellent.
“Um...what do I do now?”
“Kiss me or touch me. Do whatever you want to do.”
Her warm breath touched his face and he knew she hovered close. Finally her lips brushed his, tentatively at first, but quickly she grew more confident. It about killed him, but he waited for her to deepen the kiss.
It seemed to take a lifetime, but in reality it was only minutes before he felt her palms and fingers begin to explore his body. Yes!
“That’s right, mon amour. Touch me, taste me, anything you desire.”
There was only a moment of hesitation before he felt warm lips and the tip of her tongue.
Goddess, please give me strength!
Pre-cum was weeping liberally from his painfully engorged cock. If he swelled any further the skin would split.
Suddenly her touch disappeared altogether.
Where’d she go?
Without warning, warm wet lips wrapped around the head of his cock.
“El!”
His hips jerked and began to pump into her mouth of their own volition.
He felt her tongue lick him like an ice cream cone and then dip to his sac. A fist gripped him and began a torturous stroking as her warm mouth devoured his balls.
“Baby, if you don’t stop I’m going to cum all over you.”
She giggled with his balls still in her mouth.
“FUCK!”
Unable to stop himself, he erupted.
El managed to jump back before she got sprayed, but his hips and torso were a bit of a mess.
“I’ll get a washcloth. Don’t go anywhere.”
Stefan snorted at her joke while he tried to catch his breath.
She began to gently wash him. It was the best sponge bath he could have imagined. She was particularly thorough washing his cock and balls. By the time she was done he was stirring to life again.
“That was educational,” she chuckled.
“How about giving me a turn?”
El frowned. “What do you mean?”
“Climb up here and straddle my face. I’ll lift my shoulders enough for you to tuck your feet and calves under my arms. Then grab hold of the headboard. I want to take you for a ride.”
“Ah...okay, I’ll try.”
Even with him blindfolded she was embarrassed to sit on his face. It felt like such a kinky thing to do, but she pushed past her inhibitions and followed his instructions.
The instant she was exposed to him, his mouth found her burning heat. At this angle she couldn’t see what he was doing, only feel.
El jumped when his tongue licked over her weeping core, stroking, plunging. When he pressed his teeth against the tiny bundle of nerves at her clit, her eyes rolled.
He was a master at applying the perfect amount of pressure, then rocking against her clit in a mind-blowing rhythm.
“You taste so good.”
El cried out, her back arching as she hung onto the headboard for dear life.
“Oh God, Stefan!” she cried.
Damn, the man was good with his mouth. He had her panting, heat gathering and coiling in her belly.
He lapped contentedly with long caressing strokes before plunging deep. Mimicking making love to his mate with his tongue.
She was dying, she knew it. Convinced, she wouldn’t survive pleasure this intense. Then, her orgasm rolled over her like a locomotive. Shuddering and clenching, it was difficult to remain upright, but her legs were trapped under his shoulders.
“Goddess, El, I love you,” he whispered against her thigh, kissing every bit of flesh he could reach.
When she was able to move, he guided her from the headboard. Sex while tied up was a lot of fun, but also a logistical challenge.
“Are you all right?” He needed to check on her, and blindfolded, he was a little handicapped for gauging her reaction.
“Yeah. I just need to catch my breath.”
“Are you sure you want to keep going?”
“After that? Just try to stop me.”
Stefan chuckled at her bravado. She was no shrinking violet, that’s for sure.
He felt her fingertips dance over his chest and across his abdomen.
“Do all shifters recover so rapidly? I’ve heard men generally aren’t ready this quickly.”
“Another perk we enjoy, and our mates enjoy as well.” He grinned and his dimples deepened.
He sensed El’s hesitation right before she said, “I’m not sure how to do this.”
Long and thick, his erection twitched on his stomach at the thought of making love to her. “Stand me up and lower yourself onto me,” he directed huskily.
She gripped him and his hips jerked in anticipation. His lungs burned for air and his cock throbbed as he waited to feel her heat.
“Oh…” Her surprised gasp mingled with his groan as she slowly took him into her wet, hot, tight channel.
“Now place your hands on my chest and rock like you’re riding Mystic.”
She was slick and hot, her hips already moving in an excruciatingly slow, delicious ride.
Her eyes closed, as she began to rock against him faster. El threw her head back, uninhibited since no one could see her. She was doing things she never would have done in front of another person.
He was thick and hard, and felt, oh, so good. Instinctively, she began to rock faster, rising up to drop down onto him over and over.
“Yes, baby. You feel so good. Don’t stop.”
Stefan’s encouragement was all she needed. She leaned forward and licked his hardened nipple. Rumbles erupted from his chest and his breathing became ragged.
She heard soft moans and then realized they were coming from her.
“Ride me hard, baby. Give it all you got.”
El’s breath rushed in and out of her lungs in panting gasps. There was no controlling the pleasure rising, engulfing her as he pumped harder and faster. His hips pounded into her as she rode him with everything she had.
Her body began to tighten and clamp down hard on his. The eruption was mind-numbing when it hit.
“Stefan!” she cried as a second orgasm crashed through her.
He was right there with her, and joined her with his release.
He felt the rippling and milking of her muscles as she lay with her head on his chest, eyes closed. Aftershocks shook her again and again.
After a minute he felt her body rise, pulling him from her heat.
What was she doing now?
To his shocked but very pleasant surprise, she removed his blindfold. There she was, his mate, gloriously naked to his hot, hungry gaze.
“You are so beautiful,” he breathed in amazement. Then she took his breath away by leaning in and kissing him. A long, drugging kiss.
“Baby, could you untie my hands? I need to hold you.”
Each time they made love, El came a little further from her shell. Both he and his wolf were very proud of their mate and her courage.
By the time the family came to collect them she would actually take her clothes off without him blindfolded.
Now, he only needed her to open her heart completely and let him love her.
Tragedy
Emma and Isaac took turns hugging El and Stefan.
“How did it go?” Emma whispered in El’s ear.
“Great. Really great,” El whispered back.
Emma squealed and hugged her again.
Isaac was having a similar conversation with Stefan a few feet away.
They were relieved the kids had worked it out. Stefan was out of the woods and El had gotten past her fears. It looked like things were finally on the right track for the mating.
“Let’s go home,” Emma suggested.
“A lot has happened since you two went on your island vacation. Thomas’s house is coming along quite well. Would you like to see it before you head back to your ranch, El?” Isaac asked as they motored home.
“Yes, I would,” El answered with a smile. “I love looking at new construction.”
“Really?” Stefan exclaimed. “I didn’t know that about you.”
“Why would you?” She laughed.
“I don’t know,” he shrugged and grinned. “I guess I just want to know everything about you.”
Stefan pulled her in for a kiss, his wolf howling with joy when she snuggled in close instead of pulling away like she used to.
“It’s going to be a lovely two-story brick house with a wraparound deck on the second story. Thomas says it’ll provide a great place to keep an eye on the property for security purposes and has wired security cameras everywhere,” Isaac said with pride in his voice for his oldest grandson.
As they docked, Stefan helped El and his mother from the boat before accepting his luggage from his father.
“I’m going to drop these off at my house and then we’ll meet you two at the construction site.”
El turned toward him. “Do you mind if I go with your parents and you meet me there?”
“Sure, mon amour. I’ll only be a minute.”
*****
El, Isaac, and Emma just completed their walk around the exterior and hadn’t gone inside yet.
“You can see where the deck will be attached and the footings are poured. See that sticking out of the wall up there?” Isaac pointed at a corner. “That’s where a camera is being installed.”
As they squinted at the corner, El swore she saw a shadow pass in an upstairs window. A loud screeching sound was heard above their heads, then strange grinding. The wall bowed strangely, almost as if rippling.
Stefan was ten yards away as the second-story wall directly above El broke loose and began to fall. Isaac and Emma had the reflexes of a shifter to enable them to jump out of harm’s way. El did not.
Terror tore through Stefan’s heart. He wouldn’t make it to El as a human. Shifting on a dead run, his wolf charged into El, slamming her out of the way with his body.
El lay sprawled on the ground ten feet from where she had stood a moment ago, staring at the huge pile of rubble that occupied the space she had been standing.
A wail ripped from Emma’s throat as she threw herself at the mountain of brick tearing at it with her bare hands.
El was confused, how had she ended up ten feet away and why was Emma hysterical? She still didn’t understand the reality of the situation.
Cade and Simon charged past her and began throwing chunks of brick and debris. Then Marcus and Lucas ran in from the other direction and joined the panicked men.
Emma had been forced aside so the men could work, time was of the essence.
El watched as Emma wrung her hands in despair.
“What’s happening?” she asked Emma.
“He’s under...” Emma pointed and sobbed.
That’s when it dawned on her. Stefan was under the rubble either horribly injured or dead. She stood frozen, staring at a blood-splattered brick a few feet away that someone had thrown aside. With feet of lead she stepped to it and gingerly touched one finger to the glistening blood. El gasped and yanked her hand back. Images spun through her mind. Stefan’s blood. And Joe had just touched the brick! What was going on?
El pulled herself together and focused on the rescue effort. They had to get him out from under all that rubble! They just had too.
El wrapped a shaking hand around Emma’s arm. “Can he survive that? He can’t breathe with all that on him, can he?” She was sucking in air rapidly, hyperventilating. She had to get him out from under that pile! El rushed the wall of men to get to Stefan.
“No, El!” Emma screamed.
A blood-soaked white wolf’s paw stuck out from one end of the massive death trap. Before she was shouldered out of the way, she watched as a cluster of several bricks were lifted from its face. Before her eyes, the battered wolf became a horribly broken Stefan.
That was his face, wasn’t it? It couldn’t be. All she saw was his blood matted hair and what used to be his handsome features looked like ground hamburger.
“Stefan!” El tried to force her way back through the laboring men, but Emma grabbed her from behind.
“You need to let them work. The faster they get him out the better chance he has of surviving.”
That broke through her haze of panic. She leaned into Emma and they watched chunks of brick continue to fly.
A siren blared in the distance from the ambulance barreling toward the worksite.
As the paramedics poured onto the scene, the last debris was tossed aside.
“No! No, no, no,” El wailed as she saw Stefan’s entire battered form for the first time. She tried to break free from Emma’s hold but his mother held tight.
“You can’t touch him, cher. I know your mating response is demanding you hold him and comfort him, but we don’t know the extent of his injuries. You may cause more harm if you touch him.”
El sank to the ground next to Stefan’s prone form, willing him to breathe.
As the paramedics began working on him, she was pulled aside again. Within moments Stefan was on the gurney and being loaded into the back of the ambulance.
“Who’s riding with him?” one of the men asked.
“I am,” El said firmly.
No one questioned El joining him in the ambulance. She was the mate and mates trumped everyone.
She was afraid to ask what his condition was, but at the same time she was desperate to know. Cade helped her into the ambulance and closed the doors.
“Is he...”
“He’s very badly injured. We won’t know more until the doctors have a chance to examine him.”
“Will he
...
live?” El croaked. The weight of the situation crashed around her. Stefan may very likely die. She had finally found happiness and it could be snatched from her.
Twenty minutes later they rushed through the emergency room doors, El jogging beside Stefan’s still and horribly injured body.
Several minutes passed before Emma rushed into the waiting area where El paced.
“Any news?”
El shook her head. “Not yet. I’m still waiting for the doctors to come talk to me.”
El continued to pace for several minutes. Then it dawned on her, Emma could use her healing abilities on Stefan like she had on her stallion. She took Emma’s hand and pulled her aside.
“Can you use your mojo stuff to save him?” El searched her eyes frantically. “Please, tell me you can save him.”
“He was too gravely injured for my healing abilities. He needs modern medicine first, and perhaps after they do their thing I can augment his recovery.” Emma’s shoulders slumped. “Until then I’m as helpless as everyone else.”
*****
Sunlight in the hospital’s arboretum began to fade before the surgeon came out to speak with them. The grim look on his face made her heart stop.
“How is he?” Isaac was the first to ask.
“He made it through surgery. He’s suffered multiple broken bones, a punctured lung and massive head trauma. It took quite a while to stop his internal bleeding and we had to alleviate pressure on his brain. It’ll be some time before we can tell more.”
“Can I see him?” El asked as she pushed to the front of his family.
The doctor looked to Emma and Isaac. “Only one or two are allowed in his ICU room at a time.”
“Do you know who I am?” Isaac asked the doctor calmly.
“No. Should I?”
“I should hope so, my name is on this hospital.”
“My apologies, Mr. Le Beau, I had no idea.”
“My daughter-in-law will receive every courtesy available while my son is here. That includes having anyone we want in that room. Understand?”
“Yes, sir.”
“I had the ICU rooms designed large enough for at least two beds and several chairs. I want a second bed rolled in. El will be staying with him for the duration of his recovery,” Isaac commanded.
A nurse began to protest, but one look at Isaac’s face and she did as she was told. When Isaac spoke it was wise to listen and do as requested.
Emma touched Isaac’s arm. “Let me take El back first and then I’ll come out and get the rest of you.”
Isaac nodded and indicated for everyone to take a seat and wait their turn.
As she walked into Stefan’s room her heart stuttered to a complete stop.
“Oh my God.” El covered her mouth with a trembling hand as she stared at Stefan. Machines of every kind were attached to him. Tubes and wires everywhere. And she could scarcely see an inch of exposed skin for all the bandages.
Emma walked to her side and took her hand. “He’s holding his own.”
“That should have been me,” El whispered.
“Thank goddess it wasn’t. As a human, you never would have survived the accident. Stefan’s healing ability will take care of all this.” Emma swept her hand at the machines and his injuries. “I’ve already called the healing circle and they’re on the way. Now it’s our turn.”
“He’ll make it? He’s so gray.” Now that he was washed and bandaged his face looked badly bruised, and where it wasn’t purple his skin was so pale it didn’t look human.
“Oh, my. Yes,” Emma patted her arm reassuringly.
Voices were coming closer moments before Anna led Emma’s friends into the room.
“Where do you want us, Emma?” Anna asked.
“Make a circle around the bed, then very carefully find a place to lay your hands.”
The women each took their place in a well-rehearsed routine.
El watched as they closed their eyes and allowed the energy to flow. It was fascinating to witness these women in action.
About twenty minutes later they lifted their hands and Stefan’s color was normal again. Even the bruising had lessened.
Emma thanked her friends for coming and the room cleared, leaving El alone with Stefan for the first time.
El’s heart ached to see him so injured. Slowly her tears began to fall as she laid her cheek against his hand, needing to feel his touch.
Emma rejoined her but knew better than to speak. Rather she rubbed small circles on El’s back to comfort her.
A few minutes had passed when the nurse came to check his vitals. She checked and rechecked, unable to believe his sudden improvement.
Emma simply smiled at the nurse as she left the room.
“We have a few minutes before they clear the floor of visitors for the night,” Emma whispered. “I’ll get the others so they can see him one last time before we leave you with him.”
El?
El stared at Stefan, had she really heard him?
“Emma!”
“What is it, cher?”
“I think I heard him in my head.”
“Did you answer him?”
“I don’t know how.”
“Say it in your mind but direct it at him as if you are speaking to him out loud.”
Stefan?
Thank goddess! Were you injured? I’ve been terrified I didn’t get to you in time and I’ve been trapped in my head unable to get through to you. What’s going on? Why can’t I move or wake up?
You’re in the hospital. A brick wall collapsed and you shoved me out of the way but it hit you.
How bad is it, cher?
Your mother says you’ll be fine. Her healing circle came and seemed to help you a lot.
If my mother has the ladies involved, it’s serious, but there isn’t much those women can’t do. Don’t worry about me. I’m sure I’ll be fine.
They’re announcing the end of visiting hours. Your family has to leave, but they want to see you one last time before they go.
Only they have to leave? Does that mean you get to stay?
Yes, your father was quite insistent they roll a bed in for me.
El chuckled in her mind.
Sounds like my father.
She could feel him smiling.
Would you tell them I love them for me?
Sure. I’ll get them now.
El walked into the waiting room feeling a thousand pounds lighter. Being able to talk with Stefan made all the difference.
“He told me to tell you all that he loves you. Would you like to see him before you leave?”
