Surrounded (Unsettled Series Book 2) (16 page)

Later that evening, once the chicken had been devoured and the party tasks were done, I shifted into Logan’s side as we snuggled up on the couch. “What do you want to do for the rest of the night?” It was just a little after ten and the house was silent. My dad was sleeping and my mom finally turned in for the night after looking as though she was going to pass out from pure exhaustion.

“I’m going to head back to my hotel soon,” he answered.

“Do you want some company?” I asked hopefully. The whole time we were helping my mom all I could think about was how soon it would be before he had his hands all over me again.

He smiled at me, “I do. But as much as I’d love to have you wrapped up in my bed,” he said, playing with the strap of my dress, “You should stay here.” My heart sank a little.

“Why?”

“You came all the way here to visit your family, and I don’t want to take you away from them for my own selfish reasons.”

“That’s…noble,” I muttered, sarcasm dripping from every word.

He chucked, his laugh sexy and deep. “There’s nothing noble about what I’m thinking at this moment.” His words heated me to the core and gave me hope that we’d finally have the make-up session I was yearning for.

“What are you thinking right now? Inquiring minds would love to know,” I asked.

“That I want to see your bedroom.” Electrified excitement ran through me as I hopped off the couch. His words were music to my ears and I’d never been so happy my room was on the complete opposite side of my parents’ one story house.

Logan laughed at my enthusiasm as he stood from the couch. I hit the light switch in the kitchen and grabbed his hand to lead him towards my room. I was pretty sure whatever was going to happen in my bedroom would be the naughtiest thing I’d ever done under my parents’ roof, but at the moment the only thing I cared about was Logan extinguishing the fire that burned inside me.

As soon as I switched on the light and locked my bedroom door, Logan swept me up in his arms. I’d be a complete liar if I said it didn’t feel good to know that for once in my life, things were actually working out in my favor. Our mouths together, tongues licking, teeth nibbling, lips teasing. It was urgent and sensual all at once. He pulled away from me long enough to help me slip out of my sundress.

“I’m pretty sure I won’t forget this image anytime soon,” he said, eyeing me from top to bottom. I turned and walked to my bed, showing off the black thong that had been hidden under my dress. For the first time ever I didn’t feel self-conscious with him staring at me in the light. I was just glad that I was the woman his eyes were roving over. Within seconds, I felt his warm skin against my back as his lips left a tender trail of kisses down my spine. He let his hands wander all over my body, until his fingers found their way beneath the fabric of my panties and into my wet folds. He lowered himself behind me and nipped my backside with his teeth, sending shock waves through my body. Logan leisurely slid his fingers into me. A moan escaped as he slowly rubbed my clit. I could feel my orgasm building and my legs beginning to shake. Just when I thought I was going to lose myself in ecstasy, he pulled his hand away.

“Logan” I whimpered, turning to face him.

He stood and came to face me. “Some things should never be rushed.” He looked at me quickly before disappearing between my legs. I melted into him, as he devoured every inch of me. I was lost to him and the pleasure that he was bringing me. When Logan clamped his mouth down on my clit and sucked hungrily, I completely forgot where I was, crying out. Logan stopped abruptly and stood, clamping his hand down over my mouth.

“Baby, unless you want your dad to come knocking and throw me out for violating his daughter under his roof, you have to be quiet,” he warned softly in my ear. How in the hell did he expect me to be quiet when he was bringing so much pleasure to my body?

“Okay” I murmured against his hand.

He leaned into me, pushing me back onto my bed. “I don’t think I can make this last for as many hours as we were apart, but I’m going to have fun trying.” He ran his hand up my side. I grabbed his shoulders and
brought him to my face. If the night lasted forever that was perfectly fine with me.

Flashlight…and
a Map

Brooklyn

I pulled back the front door to my parents’ house, taking in every inch of Logan in loose jeans and a black tee. What he was wearing reminded me of our first official date. Only this time, he wasn’t whisking me away to
Atlanta; he was standing on my parents’ porch. Music flowed from the backyard. Saturday was finally here and I could put the agony of decorating behind me. I gave my mom fair warning that I was not volunteering for the cleanup crew.

“Hey,” I murmured, stepping back to let him in. All I could really think about was last night. I guess I should’ve felt the least bit guilty about having hot sex under my mom and dad’s roof, but the reality was, I didn’t. I could have done a couple cartwheels from the way he made my body tingle. There was no way I could feel bad about something that made me feel so good.

Logan leaned in, brushing my ear softly with his lips and sending chills up my spine. “You look nice.” He ran his hand over the thin strap of my pale yellow dress. God, he was making me hot already. Last night was definitely one for the record books. It was past two am the last time I glanced at the clock. I’m not sure what time he slipped out of my room to head back to his hotel, but he looked rejuvenated and hot as hell standing in front of me now.

“Thanks,” I said, relishing in his closeness. He pulled his hand from behind his back and presented me with a single package of Starburst. I burst out laughing.

“Thought you could use a pick me up after last night. I know you’re probably exhausted.” He grinned with his signature sexy grin. I pulled the package from his hands and pecked him on the cheek.

“Let’s go back. I have a lot of people to introduce to my man.”
My Logan.

“Let’s do it.” I loved that he was always up for an adventure—his biggest adventure of all being me.

I jammed the package of Starburst into my pocket and grabbed his hand, as we walked through the house towards the backyard. As soon as my sandals hit the concrete, Danielle invaded our space.

“Danielle, this is Lo—“

“You made it!” she exclaimed, staring in Logan’s direction. He nodded in acknowledgement.

“Wait, you know him?” I turned to Danielle, confused. I’d never introduced Danielle to Logan. When she didn’t answer me immediately, I turned to Logan. “How do you know my sister?”

“Danielle and Alex helped me get back to you,” he said, squeezing my hand.

“Oh. I see.” Apparently a coup had been planned behind my back, although I doubted Dani looked good in camouflage.

“Can you excuse us for a minute?” I asked Logan.

“Sure. I’ll grab a drink and go wish your dad a happy birthday.” He kissed me on the forehead and then walked away.

“So…” Danielle said.

So
is right!” I said, pointing at her. “You and Alex went behind my back. I’m not sure how I feel about that.” I folded my arms over my chest.

“Um, have you seen how happy you look? I think we
both
know how you feel about it.”

I nodded, thoughtful. “True. But it does feel a little underhanded. I mean, Alex is the queen of meddling. But you? I’m surprised.”

“Look Brooklyn, I usually let you do what you think is right, but this time you were getting in your own way.”

I sighed. “I can’t argue that. I guess I have both of you to thank. If you hadn’t done what you did, Logan wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t be this happy.” I reached out and pulled her into a hug.

“So you’re not mad then?”

“Of course not, I couldn’t be happier!
I was miserable, Danielle. If you and Alex hadn’t stepped in I’d still be heartbroken because of my own stupidity. And I wouldn’t be thinking about all the hot sex we had last night,” I whispered the last part so nobody else could hear, and gave her a wink.

Danielle took a quick breathe, “B, I’m shocked!”

I looked at her, hard. “Are you?”

“No
,” she admitted, pulling back and shaking her head. “No, no I’m not because if I wasn’t married, I’d do him too. Just saying.”

I burst out laughing.

Logan

I walked up to Brooklyn’s dad. “Happy Birthday, Sir.” I didn’t have much experience trying to impress a girl’s father. I never had to worry about any of that with Ashely’s dad since our fathers were already friends. I guess there was some type of trust there. But with Brooklyn’s dad, I had no idea what to expect.

I was a good catch, wasn’t I? I mean, I could provide for his daughter when the time came, and every time I looked at her, I wanted her more than my next breath. What father wouldn’t want to know that his daughter was loved to that extent?

“Do you think calling me sir is going to make me forget that I caught you slobbering all over my daughter in my backyard? That was a blatant disrespect, son.”

I caught myself stepping back at his words. I hadn’t expected that response from him at all. I stood silently for a few seconds, trying to think of how to respond.

Suddenly laughter boomed from his chest. “I’m just messing with you!” he said, clapping me on the back. “Lighten up! This is a birthday party for Christ’s sake!” I tried not to be obvious as I let out a sigh of relief.

“You got me. I guess I can stop trying to map out an escape route from here,” I responded, playing along.

“No, no. There’s no need to head for the hills. Let’s sit.” He grabbed his Dos Equis. I followed him to a private table in the corner of the yard as music wafted from the DJ speakers in the distance. “So what do you do for a living?”

I ran off the typical spiel about my businesses, hoping at the very least he would be secretly impressed. When he didn’t bat an eyelash, I could tell I wasn’t going to be receiving the typical pat on the back for being so young and achieving so much. Time to switch gears.

“Brooklyn told me you used to be a Lineman,” I said.

“Yep, thirty years strong.”

“I don’t know much about electric, but I did help my brother install a spa once.” I hoped we could keep our conversation light and easy going. “I bet that was interesting,” he said with a chuckle.

Very
interesting.”

Richard smiled and took a sip of his drink. “Is this your first time in SoCal?”

“No…I’ve been to Los Angeles a couple times. It’s always nice to get to the beach though. Nice views.”

“I’ve always loved the beach. Took the girls there a lot as kids.”

“Hopefully I’ll get there again before I leave.”

“So what brought you all the way to out here?”

“Your daughter,” I answered honestly.

“I can tell she cares about you. She’s not good with hiding her feelings from her old man.”

“I care about her too.”

Richard fixed his eyes on mine. “Well that’s good news. I always respect a man who cares about my daughter as much as I do.” His words weren’t menacing, but I knew he what he was really trying to say—that whoever his daughter was with treated her with respect and ultimately be a man of his word. Those were two things I had no problem with.
I wasn’t Damon.

“That is something I won’t have a problem doing. I’m a man of my word.”

Out the corner of my eye, I could see Brooklyn headed in our direction.

“Good to know.” Just then, Brooklyn playfully stepped in between me and her
Richard at the table. We both looked up at her simultaneously. “Hey, you two,” she said, swaying her body to the music.

“What are you doing back here, Dad? I hope you aren’t bullying Logan?” she teased.

“No, baby. We were just talking man to man,” he said, picking up his beer and standing. “Well, I’m going to go find your mother. This is one of her favorite songs.” He kissed Brooklyn on the forehead and then we were left alone.

“Whatever my dad said—ignore him.”

“I wouldn’t dream of it.” I pulled her onto my lap. She wrapped her arms around my neck and I gave her a peck on the cheek. I didn’t take Richard’s comment personally. Dads would be dads until the end of time. As much as my own father slacked in our relationship, I didn’t doubt that he had the same type of conversation with my brother-in-law. At that moment, the previous song ended and Safety Suit came through the speakers loud and clear. I leaned in and whispered in her ear. “I think you owe me a dance, Starburst. After all, I did fly all the way here to see you.”

Brooklyn slid off my lap and grabbed my hand. “I think you’re right.” Right there by the table Brooklyn wrapped her arms around me and laid her head softly on my chest. I clutched her tighter as we swayed together in the grass. I wasn’t much of a singer, and wasn’t really into music, but I found myself humming along to the lyrics.

“How do you know this song?” she asked, looking up at me a little surprised. “It’s one of my favorites right now.”

“I learned every word when my assistant played it on repeat at her desk for over a month after she and her boyfriend broke up.”

“So you don’t have a secret fetish for sappy love songs?” She joked.

“Disappointed?” I planted a soft kiss on her temple.

“Not in the least. This is one of my favorite songs because it reminds me of us. You absolutely make me lose my breath. That’s why I ran. I’m so scared I won’t be able to breathe if we end.”

“Just have a little more faith and trust me. Believe in us. You can’t spend all your time worrying we won’t make it, babe.” I pulled her chin up to make her look at me. “There’s nobody else. I’m in love with you. I only want you, Starburst.”

“I love you too, Logan.”

“Are you two love birds done yet?” Danielle said, breaking up our moment.

“Well, I guess we are now” Brooklyn replied tersely. I laughed at the annoyance in her voice. I was feeling the same way. She backed away from me and looked at Danielle.

“Don’t get snappy, B! Dad’s ready to cut his cake so come on.”

I knew just the right thing to turn her ruined moment into a smile. I leaned in and whispered, “Save some cake for later so I can lick the frosting off your body, one lick at a time.” I pulled away and looked at her, smiling broadly. To her credit, she recovered quickly from my comment, pretending to adjust her dress.

“You promise?” she asked, smiling like a Cheshire cat.

“Like I told your father, I’m a man of my word.” The look in her eye told me that she caught the double meaning of my words. I was pretty sure when her dad asked if he could trust me, he wasn’t referring to me making his baby girl purr like a kitten under my touch.

Danielle groaned. “Whatever you just said to make her giddy, I don’t want to know! You guys are gross.”

Once Danielle was out of earshot, Brooklyn muttered, “Yeah, you big 'ol pervert,” and followed her sister. I grabbed my water off the table and headed after them.

Brooklyn

“What’s the rush? Where are we going?” Logan asked as I pulled him towards the side of the house and through the gate. The party was finally beginning to wind down and I doubted my parents would miss me for a couple hours.

“It’s time to eat cake,” I said, rounding the front of my parents’ house and looking for Logan’s car on the street.
