Taking Chances (Blackrock Book 2) (5 page)

“Hi
Bailey, nice to meet you.”

“You
too.”

She
and Knox finish their conversation and say goodbye. He turns to me
taking a deep breath putting his hands on my hips.

“Group
project.” He rolls his eyes.

“Yeah
I hate those too. At least I had Paige last time.” He nods,
leaning in to kiss below my ear and I squirm. “Let’s get
out of here,” I whisper making his eyes light up.

We
get back to the house and head straight for the bedroom. My clothes
are off and my back is against the wall within minutes of walking up
the stairs. Knox lifts me onto his hips as he kisses me deeply; our
tongues dance together and our teeth clash. I can see desire
smoldering in his eyes, as he looks at me while undoing his belt. My
tongue darts out to wet my lips as his fingers delve into the soft
folds between my legs. Fisting my hands in his hair, I pull him
closer wanting to taste him as his fingers slide inside of me. My
eyes close and my body relishes in his touch.

“So
beautiful,” he whispers, kissing my neck and shoulder.

I
can feel myself building as he works his fingers faster. He quickly
replaces them with his hardness and thrusts into me and I groan in
pleasure. Grabbing his shoulders, I pull him closer feeling his skin
damp with sweat. Our movements match thrust for thrust as we both,
come apart together.

My
body is spent and I sag against the wall, my legs still wrapped
around his hips.

“Damn
babe, I love having sex with you,” I pant, making him chuckle
against my neck.

“Me
too darlin.” He kisses my lips gently as he walks us to the
bed. Landing on top of me smirking. He looks into my eyes while
brushing hair off my face.

“What
are you thinking?”

Wiggling
his eyebrows, he kisses me again. Just how much I love you.”

Grinning,
I pinch his ass. “I’ll take it.”

He
moves his body so his weight rests on his forearms, “Yes you
will and right now.” He tickles my stomach and I scream out but
I can’t get away, he has me pinned down between the bed and his
body. “Don’t try get away darlin; it’s not
happening.”

Shaking
my head I tell him I wont leave so he lets me go, sliding beside me
he wraps his arm around my waist.

“Why
would you think I would leave you?” I ask, catching my breath.

“I
don’t think you will; I just won’t let you and besides
you won’t want to.”

Craning
my neck I look at him. “And why won’t I?”

He
grins at me and kisses me. “Because you will want to marry me
soon.”

I
burst out laughing at his declaration and his grin falters for a
brief second so I turn around to him. “Knox we have only been
together for four and a half months. Maybe by next year you will want
someone new,” I tease and he tenses around me.

“No
way, it’s you darlin’. You’re the one.” he
shrugs.

“Okay,
thanks babe, but I’m only nineteen.” I kiss him, and wink
but it doesn’t seem to faze him.

“I’ll wait until
you’re twenty.”

Rolling
my eyes, I rest my head against his shoulder thinking about what he
just said. I know my parents got married young but I don’t
think I want to. I can’t see myself being married while still
in college; no I don’t think I can, can I? We lie in the bed
for about an hour, then decide to get our lazy self’s up, and
go eat. Knox carries me down the back stairs and deposits me onto the
window seat, turning to give me a quick kiss.

“What’ll
it be darlin’?” he asks as he opens the freezer door.

“I
don’t care, I’m not hungry.”

His
head snaps up and he raises an eyebrow at me. “Not hungry after
all that exercise?” He smirks before turning his gaze back into
the freezer.

About
thirty minutes later I have a bowl of pasta with marinara sauce and
chicken put down in front of me and have been ordered to eat.
Watching Knox, I start to eat; he is lost in thought as I stare at
him smiling to myself at the expressions he is making with his face,

“What
are you thinking about?” I ask pulling him out of his revere.

“Nothing
darlin’.”

I
smile at him, not buying it for a second. “There were some
pretty strong facial expressions going on there.” I nod at him
and he chuckles at me.

“I
was just thinking about the dead flowers and who it could be.”

Just
like that my appetite vanishes and waves of anxiety rolls over me. I
don’t want to think about it now, or ever for that matter, but
I guess I won’t be able to forget about it if I keep getting
them.

“I’m
going for a shower.” I smile at Knox as I stand.

Reaching
out, he takes my wrist. “I just want you to be safe, darlin’.”
Nodding, I lean down to kiss him and pull my arm away so I can walk
towards the stairs. “You’ve got five minutes, then I’m
coming up,” he warns, finishing off his pasta.

Racing
up the stairs, I turn on the shower, and pull off my, well Knox’s
t-shirt and jump in. I hear him whistle as he approaches, turning I
face him through the glass of the shower door. He smiles and pulls
off his jeans, joining me inside. The water crashes over his
shoulders as I move to give him room. His hair is sticking to his
forehead and the sides of his face from the pressure of the water.
Shaking his head, he sprays me with water droplets I run my hands
through his hair, pushing it off of his face. Smiling he leans down
to kiss me, pulling me closer by the hips.

“I
could stay here all day,” he groans, but I pull away and wave
as I jump out. “Hey where are you going?” he calls after
me.

“Getting
dressed, babe.” I shove aside all my clothes in the closet and
push them back again looking for something to wear. It is still a
little chilly at night even though the bar will be busy and warm, I
don’t want to be cold later. I grab my ripped jeans and a light
sweater together with my riding boots, walking back into the bathroom
Knox whistles at me

“Going on a date, darlin’?”
he asks, drying his hair on a towel.

I
smile at him through the mirror while doing my makeup. “Not
just any date, a hot date.” I wink at him, causing him to crack
out his mega watt smile.

“Good,
me too.” He winks, walking into the bedroom.

About
ten minutes later I am finished and I find him sitting on my bed
staring out at the lake.

“See something you like,
darlin’?” I ask, grabbing my watch off the nightstand.

Knox
turns and laughs at me, shaking his head. I try as often as I can to
say his line back to him, although I am very happy he used it on me
in the first place. Standing up he grabs my hand.

“Yes
I do.”

He
leads me out of my room and down the stairs to my car. We reach the
bar just before nine o’clock. Eric and Dave have set up the
instruments already and are having a beer by the stage.

Knox
walks behind the beads with our jackets, leaving them in the back
then brings us both a drink on his way out.

“Thanks.”
I smile, taking the glass from him.

We
join the other band members by the stage, looking around I see my
archenemy sitting with her friends in the corner booth and I scowl.

“What
was that look for?” Knox asks, catching my face.

I
nod my head in her direction and he turns to look at the same time
she lifts her head and sees Knox looking at her. Lindsey gives him a
little finger wave but Knox ignores it, turning back to me.

“Yeah
darlin’, I see now why the face.” He smirks at me.

“Lets
get going,” Eric says, putting his empty bottle on the table.

Knox
kisses me then licks his lips. “Umm caramel,” he says
tasting my lip gloss.

While
he sings, I video chat Max. I wave watching him smile at me.

“What’s
up?” he shouts at me so I flip the camera and show him the band
for a while then turn it back to me.

“Thought
I‘d keep you entertained for a while.” I smile at him.

“Thanks
Bailey. Is Paige with you?”

Frowning
I shake my head and I see a look of disappointment cross his face.

“I
left a note for her today but I haven’t heard back yet.”

Max
shrugs as Knox finishes his set. I wait for him to sit down then I
sit on his lap, holding the phone so Max can see us both.

“Hey bro, you sounded like
shit. You need another guitar player.”

Knox
laughs. “Yeah hurry, the fuck up then.”

I
leave my phone with Knox and go to the ladies room. When I open the
door I see Lindsey fixing her hair in the mirror glaring at me.
Ignoring her, I close the stall door. I open it a few minutes later
only to find her leaning at the sink with her arms crossed. I wash my
hands as she stares at me.

“You know I am going to get
him back,” she sneers. Throwing the paper towel into the trash,
I reapply my lip-gloss. “So you are just going to ignore me?”
she huffs.

Turning
I look at her with pity in my eyes. “Lindsey, give it up. You
had your chance and you blew it. Move on because Knox has.”
Turning I pull open the door as she starts shouting at me, but I keep
going and ignore her.

Knox
pulls me down onto his lap when I get back and hands me my phone.

“Nurse
came in and shut us down” He frowns.

“Sorry
babe, we can go see him tomorrow,” I offer and he nods as he
plays with my hair. Looking around I don’t see Lucy anywhere.
“Hey where’s Lucy?” I ask Knox, who rolls his eyes.

“Let her go, she was
brutal. Do you want another?” He nods at my glass.

“Yes
please.”

He
lifts me by the hips and stands sliding his fingers over my waist he
growls in my ear, “Later.”

I
watch the rest of the set missing Paige, my dancing partner. It is
kind of lonely sitting here with no one to talk to. Hopefully she is
okay and get’s my note soon. Looking around I catch Lindsey
watching me so I do the most adult thing I could think of and stick
out my tongue at her. She scrunches up her face and turns away. I
can’t help but laugh at myself. Man, how juvenile am I? Turning
my attention back to Knox, he smirks at me shaking his head. Well I
guess he caught that little exchange. By midnight I am getting bored
and see Knox raise his eyebrows at me from the stage, shrugging my
shoulders he announces the last song.

He
joins me at the table a few minutes later.

“Was I boring you darlin’?”

Shaking
my head no, I smile at him. “No just tired It’s not the
same without Paige to dance with.”

Reaching
his arm around my shoulders, he pulls me over kissing my head. “I
know. Do you want to go home and I can catch a ride with one of the
guys?” he asks, fixing my hair down my back.

“No, I will wait for you. I
am looking forward to wrapping myself in your arms.”

Leaning
down he kisses me softly on the lips. “Me too,” he says,
traveling to my neck with his feather light kisses.

By
one thirty the bar is empty. I watch Knox unplug the equipment on the
stage, and then he places all the stools upside down on the tables so
the cleaners can come in tomorrow morning.

He
smiles at me as he moves around the bar, leaving my stool until last.
“Let’s go darlin’.” He winks, pretending to
push me off.

Standing
I walk towards the bar yawning. We exit the side door and climb into
my car. Knox drives which is a good thing; because right now I can
barley stay awake. Arriving home I feel myself being lifted and open
my eyes for a brief second. Seeing Knox’s face, I close my eyes
again knowing I am safe where ever he is taking me.

“Darlin
wake up,” he calls, pulling me out of my slumber.

Opening
my eyes, I frown at him. “What?” I ask as my eyes adjust
to my bedroom. I just nod then go wash my face, which feels like it’s
taking me all night. I am so tired my arms refuse to cooperate with
me, and feel like lead weights attached to my body.

Finally
I am done and walk back into my room like a drunk. Knox chuckles at
me. “I’ll help you,” he says, pulling my sweater
over my head and opening my jeans.

We
climb into bed, and I feel his arms around me and his calloused
finger tips drawing circles on my thigh. My eyelids flutter as sleep
pulls me under.

Chapter 5

I
wake up the next morning to singing in my ear. Cracking an eye open I
see Knox leaning over me.

“Hi,”
I groan, pushing him away.

“Hi.”
He smiles back, kissing my head.

Grabbing
my phone, I see it is already ten in the morning. Crap, I missed my
run.

“I
have to get going, darlin’. I want to see Max and do some
homework before work.”

Pouting,
I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him on top of me. “Okay
babe, I’ll see you tonight.”

He
lifts up but I hold on tight so he has to drag me with him. Laughing
he lifts my legs around his waist and walks me down to the kitchen.

“Okay,
I do have to go but I will see you tonight.”

I
untwine myself from him, smiling as we walk to the garage door. “Yes
you will see me tonight.” I kiss him tasting coffee and mint.
“Bye babe,” I tell him, pulling away and watch as he
climbs onto his Harley.

When
he is gone I make myself a coffee and go sit out by the lake. I wrap
my dad’s jacket around me tighter to ward off the slight chill
and take out my phone to call Paige. No answer again, so I leave
another voicemail. I don’t know what is going on with her or
why she is not answering my calls but hopefully she is okay. Deciding
I should finish my essay for school, I walk back to the house.

Max

It’s
Saturday morning and I am feeling a little bummed out. My doctor
strolls into the room looking through some papers then glances at me.

“Hi
Max, how are you feeling today?” Shrugging my shoulders I give
a nod. Dr. Murphy laughs at me. “I know; there is nothing to do
while being stuck in here, but I am going to set up a scan before I
remove the casts.”
