Drew smirked. He'd sneaked up on her on purpose, so he could take a lengthy perusal of her luscious curves while she wasn't aware of his

presence.

“Thank you for the compliment,” Jamie said, her face flaming, which only made her sexier.

“You're welcome,” Drew answered. In a shameless bid to get closer to her, he leaned over her shoulder and peered at the control board,

although his mind was more actively engaged in trying to hold off from grabbing her wild, chestnut-colored hair and plunging his nose into it. “So

what are al these knobs and buttons and stuff for, anyway? You made producing sound pretty cool when you were describing it the other day.”

Jamie's eyes widened. “You real y don't know? No one's ever explained it to you?”

Drew shrugged. “I never thought to ask.”

His face was so close to hers, it was getting harder and harder to keep up his nonchalant attitude. He wanted to turn her chair around, take hold

of her shoulders, and sink into her mouth—show her exactly how much he wanted her. Jamie seemed shy and kind of overwhelmed by him, though,

and he was afraid his advance would be rebuffed, or worse, get him reported for sexual harassment or something. If something like that happened,

he would lose the best producer he'd ever had just because he was horny. He reluctantly straightened and backed away, wil ing his erection back

down.

Jamie regarded him with a thoughtful look on her face. “I can show you sometime if you'd like.”

His eyebrows shot up in surprise. Maybe she wasn't as shy and skittish as he'd thought. “Yeah, maybe.” Just to be safe, though, he retreated

farther, but he couldn't take his gaze off the clinging bodice of her cotton top. Feeling his cock thicken and strain to be let out of his constricting

jeans, he knew he should walk away before she noticed how badly he was aroused. He was in for another long night of unfulfil ed provocation.

Great...

At the next break, Drew spoke into the microphone. “Hey, I want to do a new promo for the show. The one the station's using now blows. Can

you come up with some script ideas, and then maybe we can tape tomorrow? I know that's short notice, but I want it on the air as soon as possible.”

Doing her best not to smile at his blunt assessment of the current promo, she answered, “Sure, how's four o'clock? I'l reserve a production

room.”

“Great,” he replied.

Jamie pul ed out a legal pad and began to jot down script ideas. After twenty minutes of working on it off and on while also performing her

normal duties, she stil didn't have even one idea that sounded right for Drew. He needed something unique—maybe a little edgy.

She started to think about what she knew about Drew: he was a man's man, an ex-athlete, wel connected in the hockey world, but surprisingly

intel igent, with a dry sense of humor that didn't always come through over the air. She knew some people loved him, and some people hated him—

his personality elicited strong feelings, if nothing else. He'd been born and bred in New York—Brooklyn, specifical y. She knew his parents stil lived

there.

I wonder how close they are to me? Probably not very, considering the low-rent district I'm in.

She'd read they had put Drew in hockey to find a safe release for his natural aggression after he'd started picking fights at school, and she

could total y picture that scenario, though she'd be wil ing to bet at least some of those fights came about as a result of him defending someone who

was getting bul ied. He didn't strike her as a bul y himself.

He was thirty-six, somewhat young to be retired already, but his knees had forced him out of the game. His playing style had been very rough on

his body, and after a while, his knees had just given out on him. At the time of his retirement, he'd said he preferred not to play beyond his usefulness—he didn't want to become a liability to his teammates. Jamie admired that about him.

By the end of the show three hours later, she felt like she'd written three pretty good scripts. They were al similar, but each had a slightly different

slant. As he came into the production area from the studio, she told him she'd written some stuff up and that she'd e-mail it to him. His mouth fel

open. “I forgot al about having to write a script. Wait—you wrote them already? Damn...”

She looked down, embarrassed by his reaction. “Yeah.”

He let out a long, low wolf whistle, which caused her blush to deepen even further. “You are one awesome woman, you know that?” He grabbed

her hand and bent at the waist. “I bow down to greatness.”

She shooed him away, laughing. He was so outrageous sometimes; she didn't know when to take him seriously and when to discount what he

said. She decided not to put too much stock in his compliments—it would only lead her into very dangerous, very familiar territory. She closed

everything down and grabbed her purse to go home to her cold, empty bed.

As he hopped into his car service after the show, Drew mused on this very interesting, if frustrating, turn of events. He'd never been so aroused

for so long, but it had been happening for a week and a half with only the weekend that had just passed to give him some relief. He knew he shouldn't shit where he slept, so to speak, but this woman was tempting.

He entered his building, nodded at the doorman, and took the elevator to the twenty-eighth floor. It wasn't the penthouse, but it wasn't too shabby

either. Once inside, he stripped off his shirt and pants, threw them in the general direction of his bedroom, and continued to the shower. He was

going to need a long cold one to wash away the image of legs that went on for miles, irresistibly kissable lips, and expressive eyes from his mind.

After several minutes in the shower, Drew was stil thinking about Jamie.

Dammit, I hate having to take care of this stuff by myself. It's so much more fun with a woman around, preferably with mile-long legs and a

soft, light pink pussy just waiting for me to plunge my tongue into, so I can lap up her sweet juices while she screams my name.

He leaned his head against the side of the shower and took his cock into his hand, tugging firmly. His movements became faster and faster, his

hips rocking back and forth, until final y his release came. His body shuddered as spurts of hot cum ran over his hand and mingled with the water

from the spray.

Drew stayed in the shower for a few minutes more, turning the water to hot. Rol ing his shoulders, he climbed out and quickly toweled off.

Meandering into his living room, he wrapped the towel around his waist. He loved watching the city at night while he wound down from the show—al

the people out having a good time, the lights of the taxis as they flew by, even the sounds of the city felt like home to him.

He thought about why he was so attracted to Jamie. He loved women and certainly wasn't celibate, but he never went on more than a few casual

dates with anyone. So why was he even considering getting involved with a woman like Jamie? He knew she wasn't like the other women he knew

—she wouldn't know how to play the game. She would expect more from him, and yet he was stil considering a relationship with her. It wasn't a

good idea. He knew it, and he stil couldn't get the idea out of his head.

Yawning, he checked the time. It was nearly two a.m.

To bed I go. With any luck I won't dream about Jamie's legs wrapped around me, or else I might have to make use of the self-service pump

again in the morning.

He definitely preferred ful -service. Long-legged, crazy brown-haired, ful -service.

Chapter Five

Jamie arrived at the station a few minutes early the next day. She wanted to set everything up before Drew got there. With the late notice, the

only production room available was barely more than a closet. With Drew so close, Jamie was afraid her normal calm efficiency would fly out the

window. As it was, when he got there she'd have to stand up while he squeezed past her to get to his mic. She was glad she'd worn jeans today—

they would provide a thicker layer of protection between her body and his.

Humming to herself, she went about changing settings and adjusting levels. The door flew open, and she instinctively put a hand up, reaching for

the desk to steady herself. Drew charged in and fil ed up the smal space immediately.

“I'm not late, am I?” He began to scoot past her, glanced at her white-knuckle grip on the desk. “Did I scare you?”

Jamie felt the brush of his groin against her ass acutely, despite the denim, and nearly moaned with pleasure. She managed to stammer out,

“No, you just startled me. As far as the time, you're fine—I just like to have everything set up before the talent arrives.”

Drew flashed a smile at her. “The talent, huh? I think we're going to get along very wel .”

Jamie nodded, not trusting herself to speak. In the smal room, his voice sounded even richer and sexier, drowning her senses with its timbre.

God, his sexy, sexy voice... Moisture pooled between her thighs, and she pressed them tightly together in a vain attempt to stem the flow.

This might be a long day...

She occupied herself with queuing up the tape and adjusting the sound levels while he leaned back in his chair, stretching his legs out to the

side behind her, watching her. It made her even more nervous, knowing he was fol owing every move she made. She surreptitiously wiped her

damp palms on her jeans, wil ing herself to calm down.

Skating her tongue over her parched lips, she glanced at him. “Ready?”

“As I'l ever be.”

She slid the script in front of him. “I figured we could record a fifteen-second and a thirty-second promo to make things easier. I split up the script

to reflect that.”

Drew looked at the sheet with a smirk. “Is there anything you
don't
think of? You're starting to make me feel incompetent.”

“I-I don't mean to,” she stammered. “It's just...”

Drew put his hand on her arm. Electricity shot straight up it. “I was teasing. Let's do this.”

She pressed a button. “Anytime you're ready.”

Drew launched into the promo immediately. “Listen to
The Beast is Back
from seven to eleven every night on WREK, New York's Sports Talk

Station.” He paused for a minute while Jamie made a few adjustments. “How was that?”

Thigh-quivering... Mouth-watering
... “Um, fine.”

“Can we do it a few more times? I want to make sure I nail it.”

Her breathing sped up. “Sure.”

He repeated the short promo twice more. Jamie real y began to worry she might melt onto the floor. She hadn't been this hot for a man in her

life, and they were sitting so close. She could easily reach over, grab him, and pul him to her for a soul-stealing kiss. She doubted he'd mind, but

she'd have to be crazy to act on her impulse. Shaking herself out of her reverie, she heard him speaking.

“Jamie? Where'd you go just now?”

“Nowhere.”
Dammit, I'm blushing again
. “Want to try the long one?”

Drew narrowed his eyes, studying her face. “Are you al right? You look a little flushed.”

“It's warm in here,” Jamie lied.

“As long as you're sure that's al it is. If you're not feeling wel —” He raised his hand as if to place it on her forehead, but she jerked back. If he

touched her, it was al over.

“I feel fine,” she managed to grind out.

“If you say so.” He didn't look convinced but let the matter drop. “Ready to record the other one?”

“Yep, just give me a sec... Al right, go ahead.”

“Listen to me, Drew Milan, every weekday from seven to eleven on my show,
The Beast is Back
, on WREK, New York's Sports Talk Station.

We'l cover al the important news from around the city and the NHL and have some fun while we're at it. We've got new contests and other great

promotions coming up—you won't want to miss it.”

After recording that bit a few more times, he agreed to wrap it up, which was just as wel . By the time she'd been happy with the adjustments of

the equipment and they'd finished the recordings, nearly an hour had gone by. She listened to his voice for hours every night now, but it was so

much more potent right next to her in that little tiny room, especial y when it was coupled with his rugged good looks and unmistakable masculine

smel .

They separated until the show started, which gave her at least a brief respite. She ran down to the sandwich shop at street level to have a quick

dinner, then came back to the studio to find Drew was already there, watching the nightly report updating scores and action around the league. She

settled in at the production desk and waited for the satel ite show to conclude, praying she could get through the show without making a complete

fool of herself.

Drew knew the moment Jamie walked into the producers’ area. He didn't need to see her to know—it was as if his body was acutely attuned to

hers. He was pretending to watch TV, but al he could think about was her. The way her ass looked in those tight jeans she was wearing; how she

tossed her head in frustration when something didn't go quite right; that mass of hair flying through the air—it was al going to be the death of him.

Even her perfume, just a hint of some exotic scent, made him crazy for her. Al in al , he was a dead man walking.

He had no idea what she thought of him, though. Usual y it was al too easy to spot the women who were attracted to him—the puck bunnies

were pretty blatant. They were interested in him just so they could say they'd fucked a hockey player, so they certainly weren't very subtle. Jamie, on
