Tarnished Angel (69 page)

The room, formerly filled with laughter, was suddenly silent as Devina looked up into the dark eyes of her husband, seeing there the shadows of old hatreds, old wounds again stirred to pain. She paused, glancing toward the child Lai Hua was placing in her arms. She saw Ross's gaze follow hers. She felt hope rise within her as Ross slipped his arm around her waist, as her baby nuzzled
seekingly
at her breast.

She whispered softly, "Ross, we have so much love, more than enough to share."

The tight line of Ross's lips softened. He glanced up at the knock on the door. He walked with her as she started forward in response. Devina felt her heart swell with love as he attempted a smile.

    Dear Reader,

    I hope you enjoyed
Tarnished Angel
. Devina and Ross's story was a joy to tell, and the colorful events of the Tombstone frontier were an exciting experience for me as a writer. The diverse characters in this book, both real and fictional, became friends to me. I hope you feel the same.

Those of you who are familiar with my books and have written to me in the past, know I take great joy in pleasing my readers. I have so much more planned for your reading pleasure in the future. I am excited at the prospect of introducing you all to the characters I have waiting in the corners of my mind, and transporting you to all the periods where their thrilling, tender, and sometimes very poignant, stories unfold. I hope your anticipation is as keen as mine.

I'd love to hear from you, both old friends and new. It will be my pleasure to get to know you better.

    Best regards,

    Elaine
