Taste of Candy
By Shoshanna Evers
Candace “Candy” Bryce can’t believe her good luck when she wins a dinner date with Dave Roads, the lead singer of a hot new rock band
. Not only is Dave a veritable rock star, he’s drop dead gorgeous—and he’s taking it as a personal challenge to be the first man to give Candy an orgasm.
Dave discovers that all Candy needs to come is some ties, some toys, and his merciless desire to discover exactly what Candy tastes like…
Candy Bryce sat at her laptop, staring at the logo she’d been designing for the past two hours. Something wasn’t quite right with it—but she’d been looking at it so closely she’d lost the ability to see the logo objectively. Either way she couldn’t hand it in to the client like this.
Coffee time.
She picked up her cordless phone as she waited for the mug of water to heat up in the microwave and speed dialed Hot Rocks 104.3, her favorite FM radio station. They were probably getting sick of her calling in, but she had to hear one of the songs that she considered especially inspirational. Candy was still debating which song to request when the DJ himself answered, and she knew she was on live radio.
“Congratulations lucky seventh caller! Who’s this?” the DJ asked.
“What?” Candy said, confused. “I won something? I mean, this is Candace Bryce. Candy for short.”
“Well
, Miss Candy for short, you’ll be enjoying a romantic dinner for two this weekend with none other than Dave Roads, the lead singer of TopShelf, courtesy of The Harbor Restaurant.”
Candy nearly dropped the phone
. She was going to have dinner with the lead singer from one of the hottest new rock bands? This was insane! “Th—thank you.”
“What’s your favorite radio station, Candy?”
“Hot Rocks 104.3. Wow. Thank you—” She realized he had already transferred her to one of the staff, who quickly took her information and gave her the details.
She placed the phone back on its charger and sat down at her kitchen table, before jumping up and getting the mug of hot water out of the microwave and spooning some instant coffee and sugar into it
. This weekend? She’d never have time to lose twenty pounds before then. Not that it mattered. It wasn’t like Dave Roads would actually be interested in her. She’d just go and hope she didn’t bore him to death. What on earth would she talk to a rock star about?
She didn’t think of herself as a groupie per se, since she’d never actually gone to any of his concerts, but she’d certainly fantasized about him enough. How could she not? His gorgeous face decorated the covers of all
the magazines she flipped though when she had to wait in line at the grocery store.
An image of Dave Roads’s rock-hard body
covered in tats immediately came to mind. His rocker-slash-dangerous vibe turned her on, even though she wasn’t exactly a rocker herself. At all. No way Dave Roads would be into a plain Jane like her.
Right?
Candy brought her mug back to the laptop so she could search for some fresh images to feed her imagination, when it hit her what was wrong with her logo. The kerning was off. With a few clicks of her mouse, she rearranged some of the spacing of the words and saved it before typing ‘TopShelf’ into the search bar.
Images of the band playing to sold-out crowds popped up, along with a couple of their music videos
. She watched a few, her foot tapping in time to the beat. Good stuff. And the lead singer was even hotter on video than he was in the magazines. Like, really hot. And single.
Not that it mattered
…
But she couldn’t stop grinning
. Saturday night couldn’t come soon enough.
***
Candy tugged at her clingy black dress and took a deep breath for courage as she opened the heavy wood door to enter The Harbor Restaurant. The hostess brought her to a table for two by the window overlooking the water, assuring her that she’d send Dave Roads her way when he arrived.
If he arrived at all
.
Candy ordered a glass of red wine
and sighed when she was carded, as always, even though she was most definitely legal. She stared out the large picture window, watching the sailboats in the distance. The sun was already setting. She tried not to glance at her watch, but she found her eyes drifting to her wrist every few minutes. To be fair, she was early, and it was only a few minutes after eight.
“Sorry I’m late,” a low, sexy voice said
.
Candy’s head popped up
. It was Dave Roads, in the flesh. He was wearing a tight black button down shirt with straight legged jeans and scuffed sneakers. His hair was dark and shaggy, and man oh man did he look good. And his lips…she blushed as a rush of desire swept through her body.
Candy stood up and put her hand out
, her knees trembling. “It’s so good to meet you! I’m Candace Bryce. Candy for short.”
Dave ignored her hand and leaned in to kiss her
cheek instead, his stubble-roughened face touching hers for one delicious second. He pulled her chair back for her before sitting down himself.
“Candy,” he said slowly, as if he were trying out her name for size
. “I like it.”
Candy giggled and then stopped abruptly, blushing
. He was going to think she was some star-struck fan. Which, since she had bought and downloaded all of his albums this past week, she sort of was now. Dave ordered a scotch on the rocks and then leaned back in his chair, his eyes raking over her as if he was sizing her up.
“So, have you had a chance to check out the menu?” He picked one
off the table and flipped through it.
“No, I just got here,” she lied
. “What looks good to you?”
Dave tossed the menu on the tablecloth and looked up
. A waiter came rushing over with his scotch. “On the house, sir. I am a huge, huge fan.”
“Thank you,”
Dave said with a grin. “What’s good here?”
“Tonight’s special is filet mignon with butter braised asparagus tips and seared portabella mushrooms, sir.”
Dave nodded. “Rare—still bleeding rare. Candy?”
Candy just nodded, hoping he couldn’t tell she was practically salivating at the description of the food
. “That sounds great. Thank you.”
The waiter hurried off and Dave sipped his scotch, watching her from across the table as the candlelight flickered across his handsome face
.
“You know what I do,” he said, “but I know nothing about you.”
“I don’t want to bore you.” Still, it was sweet of him to ask.
He raised an eyebrow. “Come on, that’s not fair. Spill. I promise I’ll stop you if you bore me.”
“No pressure, then,” she joked. “I’m a graphic designer. I make websites, logos, that sort of thing.” She paused, trying to gage his response. “Bored yet?”
His laugh eased her tension. “So you’re an artist, like me.”
“Yes!” Candy grinned.
Most people didn’t recognize the importance of an artist’s eye when designing logos. For some reason, most of the people she met thought that being a graphic designer was all about using special computer programs. But ultimately, her success depended on her artistic abilities.
“You got any tattoos, Candy?”
Candy could feel the warmth spread to her cheeks and she knew she was blushing again
. “No. I almost got one in college, but…I didn’t.”
Oh man
. If she kept up like this he wasn’t going to stick around through dessert.
“But I like tattoos,” she said
. She knew he had several. “Do you have any?”
Dave laughed
. “Just my whole back. And full sleeves. I’ll show you later.”
Candy laughed
, too. “Yeah, right.”
Suddenly Dave clasped her hand in his, capturing her wrist and running his finger over her rapidly fluttering pulse
.
“This is my human lie detector, right here,” he said softly as he kept his warm fingers on her wrist
. He looked up as if he were calling on the spirits. “Does sweet Candy want to see my tattoos?”
Candy laughed but she knew her pulse gave her away
. She’d give her right arm to see Dave Roads’ tattoos live and in person. She’d already seen them in a picture on the internet.
“So you
do
like tattoos,” Dave said, still holding her hand. “What else do you like? What turns you on?”
“I
—I don’t know.”
Suddenly his mouth was on her wrist, pressing his warm lips against her pounding pulse
. “Do you like kisses?”
Candy nodded, her mouth gone dry
. She lifted her wine glass with her free hand and took an unladylike gulp.
“Where do you like to be kissed?” he asked
softly.
He kissed the crevice between her thumb and index finger suggestively before releasing her wrist
. She pulled it back too quickly, nearly knocking over her wine glass. Dave reached out and caught the glass by the stem.
“Wow,
” she said, “you’re like a…ninja.”
Great. You’re like a ninja?
Where did she come up with this stuff?
He laughed
. “And you’re just my type.”
Candy aspirated her wine and started coughing
. Dave stood up and came around behind her and thumped her between the shoulder blades.
“Are you okay?” he asked, his eyebrows knitted together in concern.
“I’m fine,” she gasped. “I just really, really, really…”
“What?”
“I really didn’t expect you to be interested in me that way.” Hot rock stars didn’t randomly flirt with her. Ever.
“Are you married or something?”
“No! No.”
“Well, aren’t we here to hook up?”
Candy’s heart pounded at the prospect. “I thought we were here for dinner.”
Dave
shrugged and sat back down in his chair across from her. “Dinner, sure. But I want to go back to my hotel room for dessert. Don’t you?”
Um, hell yes.
But, why
her?
She grasped at the only logical reason. “So you just have sex with every woman who wins dinner with you?”
“No, I have sex with women who turn me on
. Like you, if you’re up for it.”
Candy took another sip of the wine to buy time
. Who wouldn’t want to hook up with a rock star? And he was so amazingly sexy…but he didn’t know what she was like in bed. According to all three of her ex-boyfriends, she was a prude. A cold, vanilla prude.
But something about Dave made her feel sexy and exciting…
“I should tell you something,” she whispered.
Dave leaned in to hear her, a lock of his dark hair falling into his warm brown eyes.
“I’ve never been able to reach, um, that point with anyone.”
Dave frowned
. “You’re a virgin?”
“No
. I mean, I’ve never been able to have an orgasm with a man before.”
“How do you…
relieve the tension?”
Candy lowered her voice even more, so that she could barely be heard above the quiet murmur of the other dining guests
. “I’m fine if I’m by myself. Just um…not with anyone else.”
Dave broke out into a grin
. “I’m taking that as a personal challenge. I’m going to make you come tonight.”
Was this really happening?
Their food came then, and Candy dove into her filet mignon with relish, enjoying how the meat practically melted in her mouth. “Delicious,” she murmured appreciatively.
“Not as delicious as you’re going to taste,” Dave said as he put down his steak knife.
“I really wouldn’t know.”
“Oh come on, are you telling me no guy has ever gone down on you before?”
“Well, I’ve never felt comfortable enough to do that, exactly. I get embarrassed.”
“I just need to get you to the point where you can’t think about anything except what I’m making you feel.”
Candy squirmed in her seat with barely contained excitement. “How?”
“I’d really like to tie you up so you can’t get away
…and then take my time bringing you to orgasm.”
Candy
got wet at the thought of his mouth on her body, her hands tied above her head. She’d never done anything like that before. “I don’t know…”
“Why not? It’s just one night
. One night to forget everything you thought you knew about yourself sexually, and just let go.”
“A
ll right.” Candy’s hand flew up and covered her lips as if it had a mind of its own. She couldn’t believe she had actually agreed to sleep with the lead singer of TopShelf. But he was right—it was just a one night stand.
Why not? What did she have to lose?
If she allowed herself to have a fling, then she wouldn’t let herself feel hurt when it ended, because she’d already be expecting it to end. He was a rock star, so she’d just have to be okay with sharing him with millions of other women.
And that was fine by her. In fact, it seemed like she’d finally figured out a way to be with a guy and not end up broken-hearted.
