He opened his mouth, closed it. “I’m not going to argue.”

Loving his small show of submission after such masculine control in the ring, Caroline lifted her shirt over her head. His gaze immediately fell to her semi-exposed breasts, straining against the gossamer thin covering of her lace bra. Her nipples ached, her pussy wept. She toed off her boots and shimmied from her jeans. His gaze grew dark and his jaw tightened.

She reached for the button and zipper on his sexy, tight riding pants and lowered them down over his hips. His erect cock sprang forward. Thick, hard, and eager. She dropped to her knees and took that delicious length of pleasure in her mouth.

Groaning, she drew him deep to the back of her throat, wanting him to feel the strength of her heat and lust for him.

Caroline cupped his tight balls in one hand, while massaging his cock with the other, as she sucked and licked. She moaned as deep, hot need pulsed through her blood.

“Holy shit, Caroline.” His fingers gripped her head, flexing in the long strands.

Satisfaction wound through her as she teased and licked him, playing softly with the leaking tip before taking him all the way back and swallowing. More and more. In and out. Juices pooled deliciously warm in her panties as she fed on him. His breathing turned harried above her and his thigh muscle grew rigid and tense where she gripped it. She sensed he was close, trembling from the effort to stop from coming in her mouth. Did she let him? Let him see his control over her and his life? That nothing, not Lewis, not Michael’s training, or her career could hold back the potential of what the two of them could achieve together.

“Caroline, please.” His hips flexed slowly, pushing more of his cock into her throat.

The exquisite blend of pleasure and pain tipped her over the edge and her control broke as her pussy screamed for release.

“Stand up, Caroline. I have to have you. I want to be inside you, feeling your soft, slick heat around my cock.”

Caroline grinned and sucked his pulsing shaft deeper, massaged him harder and slid her fingers from his balls to his ass. She inched her fingers to his hole and trailed gently over and around the sensitive pucker. Her nails teasing the responsive area. He groaned above her as his body tensed. Arousal pooled and seeped warmth down her thigh and she gently eased her finger just inside his ass.

“Holy fuck.”

He bucked against her, sliding his cock hot and heavy into her mouth. Caroline’s pussy pulsed with eager impatience. She felt his veins bulge and then he came. Hot, salty, and delicious, his cum slid down her throat. Her clit ached with want. Her breasts were painfully aroused as satisfaction furled like liquid power in her stomach.

His hands dropped from her hair and she kissed his spent cock, licking and cleaning every drop as she gently drew her finger from his tight anus.

She stood before him and their eyes locked for a moment. “You are so amazing, do you know that? Turn around.”

She opened her mouth to respond but Michael turned her and nudged her against the cool metal of the elevator’s wall. The thin string of her thong snapped and he forced her legs wide open. Before she could take another breath, he was on her.

His tongue traced the seam of her ass and Caroline’s mouth dropped wide open, a fever for more ripping through her blood. She closed her eyes and his hot mouth moved lower until his entire face was at her pussy, lapping and sucking. She arched her back, giving him better access, as sensations rolled through her and she leaked juices into his eager mouth.

“Michael. Oh, God, make me come.”

He pushed that devious tongue deep inside her core, his fingers rubbing vigorously at her clit, until Caroline couldn’t hold back her orgasm a moment longer. “Oh, my God.”

She pressed her palms flat against the wall and tipped her head back, her mouth open as her orgasm rammed higher and higher until she thought she might explode into pieces. It rolled through her and she quivered as it sent shockwaves through her pussy and clit, pulling her stomach into a knot. As the sensations ebbed, she released her held breath and Michael took her face in his hands.

“Let’s go upstairs.”

Chapter Eleven

Caroline smiled as she held the front page of
The Gazette
. Her byline shone proudly beneath the headline and an equally fabulous photograph of Michael bare-chested and training Marshall May accompanied it. Her stomach knotted. Their job was done. Finished. Over.

Her report of the Trials had run the day after Michael’s award-winning circuit—as had her exposé of Lewis Canton’s brutal treatment of his staff and several women in his life. He was a bully, a manipulator, and no longer the hero he’d drawn himself to be for the last two decades.

Once she’d covered the feud between the hot, hunky, and wronged master rider and his overbearing, red-faced, washed-up father, the public adored Michael as he deserved. Caroline grinned. Well, what else was she supposed to do but portray the absolute and real difference between two men that had briefly and so differently come into her life?

“Caroline?”

“Hmm?” Caroline dropped the paper onto her desk and turned.

Gordon approached and leaned his hip against her desk. “How you doing?”

She grinned. “Great. Why wouldn’t I be? This story was meant to be told and I’ve done it just the way I wanted. I’m happy. Really happy.”

He frowned. “You heard any more from Michael Canton?”

Caroline swallowed and looked toward a spot in the distance, unwelcome heat burning behind her breast. “No.”

“And you’re still going to tell me nothing happened between the two of you?”

“Yes.”

“Uh-huh. That’s fine. I’m not going to pry into your personal life, but you should know better than to mix business with pleasure…especially when you’re working in London.”

“What?” Caroline snapped her head up as her heart raced.

Gordon grinned and gave her a friendly pat to the shoulder. “You’re in.
The Telegraph
just called. I’ve struck a two-month deal with them. They’ll give you a chance, but it’s up to you to make them want you to stay on after that time is up. This is the break you’ve been waiting for. Don’t waste it.”

Caroline laughed. “I don’t believe it.”

“Well, you’d better believe it.” He pushed away from the desk. “You leave tomorrow.”

Her smile vanished. “Tomorrow? But that doesn’t give me enough time to say…” Michael’s face appeared behind her closed lids. “To pack.”

Gordon frowned. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

She opened her eyes and struggled to maintain eye contact with her boss. The boss she had harassed for the last twelve months about getting her a transfer to London. Now he’d done it—she’d done it—and nothing but the fear of never seeing Michael again beat inside her heart.

“I…” She shook her head. “Ignore me. Of course, I’ll be ready.” She forced a wide smile. “I was born for this.”

Gordon’s gaze was intense on hers. “He’s just one man, Caroline. One man whose first love is those horses. Not you. Nor anyone else. Don’t you dare let an opportunity like this slip through your fingers.”

She huffed out a laugh. “Don’t be daft. This is amazing. I’m happy. When can I get out of here? I’ve got things to do.”

He nodded toward the chaos of her desk. “Make sure you sort or delegate that lot and then you can go.” He moved to walk away and stopped. He raised a rare smile and wiggled his eyebrows. “Be careful. It’s a jungle out there.”

Caroline forced out a laugh before Gordon turned and ambled back into his office at the end of the busy floor. She slumped into her chair, her gaze drawn to her cell sitting on her desk. She was leaving. Tomorrow.

She picked up the phone. It trembled in her hand. She couldn’t leave without knowing. She needed to know if he wanted her. Had he fallen as stupidly and as quickly as she had? She put the phone down. Of course not. Who does that? It was insane. She was insane. Caroline sucked in a breath.

“God, damn it, Michael. Why haven’t you called?”

Tears threatened and she closed her eyes, trapping them behind trembling lids. The feel of his hands still lingered at her breasts and pussy, the taste of his kiss was rejuvenated every time she licked her lips…his laugh and smile lingered painfully in her heart.

She opened her eyes and stared at her cell. She had to speak to him. Once more. She had to know…

“Caroline?”

She jumped and turned, her heart leaping into her throat.

Michael had never looked as handsome as he did standing next to her desk.

Michael took her hand and led her away from the newspaper office toward a wall outside. They sat down and he stared at her profile. It seemed she was either unable or didn’t want to look at him and his heart grew heavy in his chest. “Caroline—”

A breath shuddered from her mouth as she stared ahead. “I’m leaving.”

She turned and met his eyes. They shone with unshed tears and pain stabbed cruelly at his heart. He swallowed. “That was supposed to be my line.”

Her gorgeous blue eyes grew wide and she swiped her fingers over her cheek. “You’re leaving, too? When?”

He drew in a shaky breath and ran his gaze over her hair and every inch of her beautiful face. “I’ve been offered the chance to train some of the best horses in the world.” Regret wound his voice tight, bringing it out as a strangled whisper.

She blinked “Where?”

“Monte Carlo.”

She flinched visibly. “Monte…I see.”

“Do you?”

Turning, she stared ahead. “Yes. What an amazing opportunity for you.” She faced him again, her gaze lingering on his lips. “Truly.”

Michael’s heart picked up speed as their eyes locked. He was about to leave himself open and vulnerable for the first time in…forever. His mouth drained dry.

Say it. Ask her. Damn well say it and then you’ll know.

He touched his fingers to her jaw. “Come with me,” he whispered.

Time stood still.

She stared deep into his eyes as her cheeks flushed pink. “What?”

He brushed his thumb over her bottom lip, longing to kiss her until the heavy weight lifted from his chest. “I want you to come with me. This is what all the blood, sweat, and tears have been about.”

“I don’t understand.”

“This is why fate brought my father back into my life…it’s why it brought you. Another country, Caroline. Another country where we can start fresh. Together.”

She shook her head and closed her eyes. “How can you say that? We hardly know each other.”

“Because it’s true. Caroline, look at me.”

Releasing a shaky breath, she opened her eyes. He leaned forward and brushed his lips against hers, down lower along her jaw, lower…she shifted her head to the side and he kissed the floral-scented skin of her neck.

“You can write. I can train. We’ll be away from here.” She groaned and he gently suckled her sensitive flesh. “We can be together in the sun. There’s nothing here for us…” He stopped and pulled back. “You’re the only reason I’d stay now.”

Tears glazed her eyes. “I can’t just leave, Michael.”

His stomach knotted. He couldn’t go. Not without her. “Then I’ll stay.”

She shook her head. “I’m not asking—”

“It was a proposition, that’s all. I thought we go could go to Monte Carlo and work side by side. Given time, I know you’ll love horses, love watching them, the whole world of it. You’d be amazing over there. If those articles I’ve read over the last few days are an indication of what you have inside, then God only knows what more you can do.”

A smile pulled at her lips. “That doesn’t count. You made it easy to write that way.” She shook her head, her gaze on his mouth. “You have no idea what you look like when you ride or work with your horses. No idea how you look at Marshall May. Women go crazy for that look.”

He huffed out a laugh. “Let them. I want to be with you, Caroline. If you really can’t come with me, I’ll stay here or go to London with you.”

She laughed softly, her eyes crinkling at the sides. “You in London is something far beyond your imagination or mine.”

He waited. It had to be her decision.

“This is crazy.” She shook her head, but her eyes shone with—dare he think it—excitement. “You’ll have to give me time to think it over.”

“Of course. They want an answer in the next week or so.”

“If it’s possible—”

“Anything’s possible.”

She laughed and took his hand. She brushed her lips across his knuckles. “If it’s possible I can get work out there, then—”

“You’ll come?” He smiled, his body tense with hope.

For a long moment, she stared before her mouth stretched to a grin as bright and beautiful as the sun. “I’ll come.”

Michael’s heart beat faster. “You will?”

“Yes!”

She leapt into his arms and he kissed her. Kissed her with all of his heart and soul. They were leaving. Together.
