The Airship Aurelia (The Aurelian Archives) (61 page)

Slowly at first, and then gaining speed, he began to unfold the document. One page doubled into two. Two expanded into four. The rectangle of paper seeped out across the floor as Hayden began to have to crawl to keep unfolding it, pressing its seams and creases flat. Finally, he flipped the last fold and sat back on his haunches. The pages that, folded back to back, had made up one fat volume, laid flat, formed a paper carpet more than half the size of the room. The shapes of identical numbers matching up in long rows became vertical and horizontal lines, a perfect, printed net.

Latitude and longitude.

It was a map.

About the
Author

Courtney Grace Powers has been cramming notebooks full of stories since she was six years old and determined to see her short stories about flying unicorns and vampire princes adapted to the big screen. Although she has since decided to leave the unicorns and vampires on the shelf, science-fiction and fantasy stories have retained a special place in her heart, along with theatre, chai tea, bomber jackets, and adventuring.
