I pulsed into her, slowly at first, but then picking up the pace, until we were firing like the pistons on a machine. A series of coordinated pushes and pulls as we moved together, each of us driving the other to the edge. She was dizzyingly tight around my cock and being able to fuck her from behind, while watching her pleasure in the mirror was a new level of erotic delight.

Just as I was about to crash over the edge, I pulled out, spun her around, and lifted her against me, my hands braced under her ass cheeks. Our lips crashed together in a frantic tangle as I backed her against the wall beside the desk. She locked her legs around me, hooking her ankles together, as her thighs clenched my hips. I kissed a hot trail down the side of her neck and slipped her down, back onto my cock, and started our frantic rhythm again.

I wanted every last wave, spark, and flame of heat before I let her go.

If it was only a one-night thing, I wanted to make the most of it. And make sure she’d never forget me.

Wendy arched against the wall as I pounded into her over and over.

A scream escaped her lips before she latched them onto my shoulder, trying to stifle the sound that had ripped from her core.

I grinned. “You like it like that, baby doll?” I thrust harder.

A banging on the door stopped me cold.

“Wendy? Are you in there?”

It was the Admiral.

All the blood in my body—most of which had been in my cock—drained to my toes, changing to ice as it pooled in my feet.

“Holy shit!” I hissed.

Wendy had a horrified look on her face and her panting had nothing to do with my fucking her like an animal in heat moments before.

“Say something!” I whispered.

“What?”

Another round of knocks sounded, this time louder and more urgent. “Wendy?”

The doorknob clicked and I thanked my lucky stars that Wendy had thought to lock it.

“You have to get out!” She hissed.

I dropped her to the floor and scrambled back to gather my discarded clothes.

“Hold on, Daddy,” she called out, rushing back to her own dress.

“Everything okay, pumpkin? Where’s Lieutenant Rosen?”

He knew.

Shit, shit, shit!

“I don’t know, Daddy. Isn’t he at the party? I left him a while ago.”

My heart pounded so hard against my chest that I halfway expected it to rocket out and fly around the room of its own accord. Wendy wiggled back into her dress as I searched for my briefs. Where the hell had I tossed them?

“Rosen,” she hissed, gesturing at her dress. I abandoned my search and zipped her up.

Faster than I could register, she darted to my pile of clothes, opened a window, and chucked them out. With a horrified look on my face, I spun back to her. “What the fuck?” I whispered.

“Go! Now! He can’t find you here!”

“Come on, baby, I’ll walk you back to the party. There’s some people I want you to meet. They’re Ole Miss alumni—” the Admiral babbled on and on.

“Coming, Daddy! I was just freshening up.” She raced to the vanity I’d just been fucking her against, and spritzed herself from a glass bottle that had been knocked over in our flurry.

When she was done, she spun back to me and pointed out the window. “Go!” she mouthed. “I’m sorry.”

I swung my bare legs over the edge of the windowsill, prayed no one was down below, and jumped.

I landed in an undignified heap, finding it a lot harder to land on my feet without my boots.

In the bushes, I quickly untangled the ball of clothing that Wendy chucked out the window and threw everything back on as quickly as possible, not even stopping to rummage around for my shorts.

“Bye, Aaron,” Wendy’s whisper came from the open window.

“Bye, baby doll.” I grinned up at her and heard the window slide closed half a second later.

A few heart-pounding minutes later I made it to the driveway, and breathed a silent prayer of thanks to whoever had left the large metal gate open. I raced down the drive, my loosely tied dress shoes coming undone halfway down, and made it to the street where my truck was one in the sea of vehicles belonging to the other guests at the party.

I looked back at the mansion, lit up and glowing in the dark night sky and grinned. I may have had a miniature heart attack, and a case of blue balls that had the potential to do permanent damage, but I smiled all the same. It had been totally worth it—even without the two hundred bucks I had coming to me.

Chapter Five

“Anyone know what this meeting is about?” I asked, as Jack and two other men in our squad, all filed into the Ready Room. Flight school was coming to a close, and Jack and I had both been given our new assignment, with an F-18 squadron, with our first tour to begin in less than a month. The days were passing by in a blur of activity as we prepared to graduate and start our first assignment. Every day was filled with meetings, most of the time, without much warning.

Such as this one.

“Not a clue,” Jack replied, keeping pace with me.

“Maybe it’s to tell Boomer to keep it in check next time we do a test flight,” Lars, one of our fellow officers teased, ribbing Jack.

I laughed as Jack rolled his eyes. He’d recently broken the sound barrier on a test flight over some town in the middle of BFE and had been christened “Boomer” as his call sign. Just about everyone in our squad had one. I was one of the last ones to receive mine, and was watching myself very carefully, since I knew every move I made was being watched as everyone tried to peg me with something.

“What the hell?” Jack muttered.

I stopped short, blocking the doorway as we entered the room. It looked like it always did, but at the front, someone had draped a pair of briefs over the microphone. I laughed and rolled my eyes. “Probably just some prank for Richardson,” I said. “Come on, let’s get front row.”

We all took our seats as the rest of the room filled up. Every newcomer to the meeting noticed the underwear hanging on the mic, and by the time Lieutenant Commander Richardson strut into the room, it was bursting with electric energy. Unexpectedly, Richardson glanced at the shorts and didn’t even raise an eyebrow. He took his place behind the mic and only then did I notice he was wearing yellow rubber gloves, like he just got done plunging a toilet or scrubbing a sink.

Jack turned to me. “Hey, Rosen, you recognize those shorts?”

I shook my head, but as Jack’s face split with a large grin, my heart stopped beating and fell to the pit of my stomach. “No…”

Jack and Lars busted up laughing.

Weeks ago, on my wild night with Wendy Westerfield, I’d ended up running off without my briefs. I’d forgotten about it, figuring that she could keep them as some sort of memento of our night together. Although, I wasn’t entirely sure girls kept trophies like that. I hadn’t given it much thought, too caught up in all the celebrating I’d done with everyone back at base when word got around that I’d done the impossible.

But now…staring at my briefs dangling from the mic, inches from the face of my commanding officer, my stomach balled up into a knot and all I wanted to do was sink into the concrete and disappear.

“Good afternoon gentleman,” Richardson started, raising a gloved hand to the shorts on the mic. “Let’s all get to our first piece of business here. Anyone know who these belong to?”

He lifted the briefs, pinching the waistband between two fingers, and raised them up to make sure everyone could see. A roar of laughter and jeers burst through the room like fireworks and my heart rate jolted into a frenzied triple time pace.

Jack elbowed me and grinned. He’d been in on it. I knew it.

“Let’s take a look…” Richardson turned his attention to the briefs and flipped the waist inside out. “Aha.”

He held them up again and my last name was written in bold Sharpie on the inside band.

“Fuckin’ hell…” I growled. I shot up to my feet and held out my hand, trying to keep my face a mask of calm. “Thanks, Lieutenant Commander. Been lookin’ for those.”

Lieutenant Commander Richardson dropped the briefs into my open hand and his grim expression shifted into a wide, uncontainable grin. “Congratulations Rosen. You just earned your call sign. I personally know six officers who tried to bag that girl over the last few years. So, from here on out, you’ll be known as ‘The Player’.”

The room erupted with loud, bawdy laughter. Hoots and hollers roared over the applause, and although I was sure my face had gone three different shades of red, I shook my head, and couldn’t help but join in the laughter.

Lieutenant Commander glanced over the room of rowdy officers. “Dismissed!”

“You rat bastard,” I said to Jack, shoving him as we made our way back out of the room.

“What did I do?” He asked, trying to feign innocence, but unable to keep a straight face.

“How’d you get the shorts?”

“They got mailed to Master Chief Mitchell with a note to get them back to their owner.”

She
mailed them?” I laughed until my sides hurt. “Damn, she really was something else.”

Jack laughed. “You gotta admit, it makes for a pretty good story.”

“Oh, yeah. That’s one for the grandkids someday.” I shook my head and we walked out of the Ready Room together amid the cheers and slaps on the back of the others who’d been at the presentation.

I had to give her credit though, Wendy Westerfield would certainly not be forgotten. Just as I’d promised her.

Player.

My dad would be so proud.

Chapter One

Carly

Memorial Day was still weeks away, and I was already looking forward to the end of the summer. It had nothing to do with the wave of tourists that would invade my simple little beach town, Holiday Cove, and everything to do with the impending invasion of my younger sister, Alesha, and all the drama that a seventeen-year-old could whip up.

Mostly over nothing.

I had a million things to do before Alesha was going to arrive, but first things first. I needed to get out of the uncomfortable phone conversation I’d been tangled up in for the past hour.

“—needs someplace safe, where she won’t get into trouble. You’re the only one Kelli and I trust to make sure she stays in line.”

“Yes, dad, I understand,” I said into the phone, nodding my head as he rambled on about all the reasons why it would be impossible for Alesha to go anywhere else for the summer. “I’m not saying I won’t take her. All I said was that if she pulls a stunt like she did last summer, you’re going to be buying her a ticket out of here.”

“I’ve already talked to her about that…” my father, Pat, replied, his voice tensing at my mention of Alesha’s antics a year ago. While I’d been working at my coffee shop, she’d gotten bored, hitchhiked up the coast with some surfers, and ended up arrested for getting stoned on the Santa Monica pier with them.

I pinched the bridge of my nose, still able to recall the flurry of panic and eventual rage over the entire fiasco.

“Just tell me you’ll get her out of my hair if things go sideways,” I pleaded. I needed to know I had a parachute out of this mess.

“Okay, fine. If she gets to be too much, I’ll arrange for her to go stay with grandma.” My dad paused and heaved a sigh that spoke volumes.

“Are you okay?” A hot tip of guilt slid between my ribs. I’d been so wrapped up in anxiety over Alesha’s impending visit and ironing out the logistics that I hadn’t even bothered to ask my dad how he was feeling. His pained sigh told me that something wasn’t quite right.

“I’m fine, noodle,” he replied, his tone still heavy and weighted down. “There’s just a lot to do in the next couple of weeks to get ready for the trip. The sooner I get Alesha squared away with you, the sooner I can get things figured out over here.”

I nodded. “Is Kelli still bugging you about having a baby?”

There. I’d said it.

My dad groaned. “Really, Carly? You think I want to get into that right now?”

I tossed my free hand dramatically into the air and spun on my heel to pace back to the other end of the counter. “I’m just asking. You sound…stressed.”

“Kelli and I will work that out between the two of us, thank you very much.”

I rolled my eyes and they landed on the silver plated mermaid shaped clock on the wall, above the archway that led to the kitchen in the back of my coffee shop. My heart jolted at the time. How was it already nine o’clock? Granted, I didn’t have any major plans for the rest of the evening, but the late hour surprised me. After closing up for the evening, I’d hung around, preparing some new recipes for the summer menu. But, it seemed that as usual, the hours slipped away when I was lost in my kitchen.
