“I can see that,” Kali said.

“At least with Noh I can go to New Newbridge and visit her—and I actually think she’s happier being a ghost than she ever was as a living person.”

When Callie looked down at her hands again, they were shaking.

“But Daniel…he’s not anywhere.”

Kali put her arm around her friend’s shoulder and drew her in, hugging her tightly.

“He’s in your heart, dipwad.”

Yes, he’s in my heart,
Callie thought, as she stared out at the mercurial sea.

He would always be in her heart.

She just wished it were enough.
