“Not at all,” he interrupted.
“You're quite insane,” I said.
“Quite,” he agreed.
I stared at him in amazement. His head was lowered, his eyes raised to taunt me with their dark, mischievous stare. He looked more demonic than ever with the bright pink scar and the curling mouth. I turned away. All around me London clattered and clanged with life, but I was oblivious to it.
I was filled with an ecstatic emotion, and I knew that it was joy such as I had never felt before. It was several moments before I could compose myself.
Philip Mann grew impatient.
“Well?” he demanded, scowling.
“I

like to improve my sketching,” I said.
