The Love Goddess Brands Her Cowboys (9 page)

“I’m not glad he tried to attack you. I’d like to kill him. But I’m glad you’re here.” Chad stroked her hair and kissed her forehead, his intensity gone, but not his feelings. She could tell he had strong feelings for her, although humans weren’t supposed to get attached so fast.

“What exactly does a love goddess do?” Chad asked.

Was he changing the subject because she’d embarrassed him? Disappointed, she said, “When we graduate to a Love Goddess, we get lists of men and women from all over the universe and it’s our job to help them find their matches. Soulmates, if you will. And it’s not an easy job! You’d be amazed at how love blind some folks can be.”

“Love blind?” He kept stroking her hair, smiling a little.

“Oh, yes. Their true love can pass them every single day and they won’t admit they burn for one another. Sometimes, even with the help of a love goddess, they resist.” She shrugged. “My mother is very good at picking out such good matches that she rarely sees a failure. She’s a very revered Love Goddess.”

He moved his hands to her breasts and she didn’t know if she was ready for more. Her nipples responded instantly, growing hard, and she heard herself gasping. “I…I hope I can do as good a job. Nothing is sadder than to spend eternity alone.”

“Eternity?”

“Love never dies. Nor do creatures anywhere. Humans go to a different place than people from my planet when they move on, but they still exist.” She didn’t really want to explain this right now. There was so much more she wished we could talk about, like how she was starting to believe that her mother had sent her to her soulmate…him…and that his mother had not been human, so he was not 100% human. But she knew he wasn’t ready for her exciting discoveries.

“Can I visit your planet?” he asked, surprising her.

“Do you really want to?”

He was looking into her eyes, his blue gaze bright and filled with…what? Love? “I do and what I say goes. I’d like to meet your mother and…you have a father?”

“Yes, but he’s not a Love God. In fact, he minds the house while Mother is working.”

“A house husband?” Chad sounded amused.

“It’s not so odd in other worlds.” She laughed.

“I could never just do that.”  He kissed her nose.

Star was trembling, mad for him. Every word he said struck her and enthralled her. Just the sound of his voice sent her to Venus heaven. “I don’t think I can just be a love goddess either. I want to do more. Maybe set up a sanctuary for creatures all over who seek refuge.”

“That’s a noble cause.” He kissed her neck, nibbling on her skin.

“Oh, Chad.” She didn’t know if she were hot or cold, but she knew she was turned on and  very contented.

“Would that be hard to do?” he asked, in between nibbles.

“Dangerous,” she managed to say as she held him tight. “The sanctuary would be a t-target for the bad guys. I’d have to go into warrior mode.”

He froze and lifted his head. “Warrior mode? You?”

“I can fight if needed. That’s part of every child’s training on Venus as we have enemies.”

He shook his head, and she thought she felt admiration coming off of his aura. “So my little princess can actually be tough.”

She found his uber-blue gaze and got lost in it. She tried to concentrate on a coherent answer. “Well…yes. Earth is never a target of other worlds because it is primitive…no offense meant. But Venus is peaceful and advanced…many worlds that are not so good would like to conquer us. So I have to be ready for warfare if the need arises. I…I…it’s hard to concentrate in your arms.” Then words seemed to blurt from her that somebody else was telling her to say. “I could love you, you know.” Her jaw dropped as she watched his eyes round and his tongue lick his lips. For once, she couldn’t read him.

“Could you now,” he finally said, in a quiet voice.

She felt tears pull at her own eyes. Was he getting ready to reject her? “I didn’t mean…”

“You’d better mean it.” He crushed his lips against hers and grabbed her body, rubbing his body against hers, making her tits tingle and harden. His steel cock banged against her clit and he moved it up and down until she screamed into his hot, busy mouth. She longed for his cock, but knew that humans couldn’t have sex that soon after having emptied.

So when he turned her to her stomach and lifted her to her knees and entered her from behind, causing Fourth of July fireworks to erupt inside of her, she knew her feelings had been right. He wasn’t just human; some other, more advanced creature lived in his blood.

For that reason, as much as the volcano inside of her, she softly wept.

Chapter Sixteen

When Chad stepped into his back yard party with Star on his arm, he felt proud. She looked very pretty and he was happy to show her off. Shooting her a glance, he couldn’t help smiling. Her hair swung in multiple braids around her oval face and her yellow sundress skimmed her curves while still looking refined. He grinned and waved at all the family, neighbors, and business associates that he’d invited to his father’s sixtieth birthday bash. He could only imagine what they were thinking, since he had never escorted any woman to a big affair before. And this one was an ethnic beauty, not so common in these parts, but he didn’t give a damn. All eyes were on them.

“They’re trying to be polite,” Star said, in a teasing voice, “but it’s obvious that they want to know who I am.”

Chad shrugged. “Let them wonder.” He squeezed her hand.

After the shock of seeing Chad and Star together wore off, the guests went back to whatever they’d been doing. Some danced on the patio and some tasted the catered barbeque. Others just stood by the bar to chat and have a beer.  “Hungry?” Chad asked his Lady Love.

Her eyes sizzled as she looked at him and she murmured, “Only for you, cowboy.”

Chad felt the heat from her gaze and it damned near burned him alive. He cupped her cheek feeling her tremble at his touch. “Later,” he promised. Then trying to will away his hard-on he turned toward the bar. “A drink?” he asked.

“Not yet. I’d rather get drunk on you for now.”  She flashed him a sexy grin and tossed her hair.

“You’re full of corny compliments,” he said, and squeezed her close to him. He knew how she felt as he burst into flames. He was already drunk on her beauty and feminine wiles.

“I’m dead serious,” she said, holding in a smile, but the corners of her mouth were flicking upward.

He knew it and nothing could have made him happier. “That’s how I feel about you too, sugar.” He winked. “Later though.  Let’s go talk to some people, get that over with, then we can dance. See Dad over there with that woman? I thought he had somebody in his life but he would never admit it.”

Star nodded. “I feel warm vibes coming off her and I bet you do too.”

He looked at his father’s romantic interest and tensed when he saw a warm golden aura wrapped around the woman. Then he saw his father take her hand and the golden aura wrapped around him too. It was as if they were meant to be together

“Hey, handsome,” Star said, “Do you think we should go introduce ourselves to her?”

“Let’s give them a little time, babe. Right now they’re in their own little world.  Can’t you see that golden band wrapping them together?”

Star grinned at him. “You’re getting good cowboy. I didn’t even pick up on the golden band until you mentioned it. But you’re right,” she said. As he glanced at her again, her face glowed and she smiled. “This is a budding-love-goddesses dream, to see soulmates find one another.”

Chad pulled her closer. Was she talking about his father and the woman or the two of them? Or both? Chad could not take his eyes off of Star. Suddenly she scanned the entire crowd a few times and said, Hmmmmmmmm.”

“What is it?” he asked.

“Diego isn’t here?” She wrinkled her forehead.

“Oh, I’m sure he is.” Chad smiled to himself, his secret intact. “Maybe he’s off with some lady. Come on, princess. Let’s do our duty, then we can be alone.”

She nodded.

Chad escorted her around the yard introducing her to everyone. Star handled herself well with this group of people she didn’t know. She was so obviously full of class. At least in human terms. And she was the prettiest woman there.

He thought the introductions were over when suddenly he saw the woman who had recently cheated on him, Belle, coming towards him boldly, her embarrassed looking parents trailing behind her. He froze, shocked that she even had the nerve to show up. He felt Star draw back at his tense reaction and tried to turn away. But Belle called out, “Not so fast, honey! We need to talk!”

Chad kept his composure, making sure he had his arm around Star as he went around Belle and up to her parents. Trying to force a genuine looking grin, he said, “I’m glad you came, Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell.” Sober-faced now, he glanced at Belle, who stood next to them, and said, “Enjoy your evening, Belle,” and he quickly escorted Star in the other direction.

“No!” Belle was right behind him, even as he heard her father snapping, “Leave him alone!”

“I will not! I’m sure he still loves me but I hurt him!” Her voice was loud and they had an audience.

Chad halted and Star whispered to him, “Do what you have to do. I’ll be okay.”

What
he
had to do was get rid of Belle. Fast. He turned around again, keeping his arm around Star. “What is it?” he asked, in a quiet voice, staring at her and wondering what he’d ever seen in her. Her bleached blond hair, too much makeup, and overly tight red dress, that left little to the imagination, was a turn off next to his classy Star. “Where’s Billy?” he couldn’t stop himself from asking and was immediately sorry that he had.

“Oh, darlin’, don’t be jealous of Billy.”

Chad stared into her eyes, a gaze that he felt was cold. Pressing Star against him, he said, “Trust me, darlin’, I feel only pity for him.”

“I know you can’t mean that. You’re just still very hurt.” Belle shot Star a malicious look then glanced back at Chad. She gave him the ugliest smile he had ever seen, her lips disappearing and her teeth huge bared. “Aren’t you going to introduce me to your newest lay?” He heard the crowd gasp, all focus on them, and Belle’s parent groaned.

“Shut your mouth,” Belle’s father snapped. “I told you that you should have stayed home, Marlene.”

Her mother sniffed. “Belle, darling, act like a lady.”

“Please.” Belle rolled her eyes. “I’ve never been…a lady.” She batted her eyes at him. “Certainly I’m not one in bed, am I, Chad?” She whispered the last sentence, but Chad was livid.

“Star, in case you haven’t figured it out, this is my ex,” Chad said, in as dignified a voice as he could. “Belle, this is Star Hart and she’s important to me. We’re going to leave now…”

Suddenly she ran up to him, threw her arms around his neck and tried to kiss him. Just that quickly he unwrapped her arms and stepped away, pulling Star with him. As he watched her, he was shocked to feel the venom coming from her aura. Damned, she had only pretended to be nice to him. Her soul was dark and he was happy she had cheated on him. “No,” he said, firmly. “Never again. I’m with Star now.”

Belle’s blue eyes started to tear. “B-b-but she’s
colored!
” she blurted.

“I am?” Star asked, sounding amused as she gazed at her arm. “Hmmmmmmm.”

But that did it for Chad and his temper rose. “Star is the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on in my life. And you are a bitch and a bigot. Leave us alone or I’ll have you escorted out of here.” As he pulled Star away from Belle, he was shaking with anger.

As they walked away, Chad heard Belle’s father yelling, “Damn it, Belle, will you shut your foul mouth? Or
I’ll
escort you out of here!”

That must have struck Star as funny because she started giggling and soon he joined her. Belle wasn’t worth it. Now when he had the best.

As he escorted her away, kissing Star’s lilac-scented hair, he heard Belle sputtering behind him. “You’re a fool to give up a prize like me, Chad Austin!” Star laughed out loud and Chad joined her, deciding to never look back.

And after that it was only seconds before Belle was forgotten. The music was festive, the air filled with delicious, outdoor smells, and the sun a large pink ball, setting behind the trees. Chad stopped walking once they stood behind most of the crowd, on the grass. He gazed down at Star’s smiling face. “Would you care to join me in a country waltz?”

“I would adore that, cowboy,” she said.

He took her in his arms and started twirling her in the warm breeze, feeling giddy inside. Her breasts brushed against his Western shirt and he wished he could just tear it off and feel her soft skin against his. Their feet moved in tandem and he felt so utterly connected to her. “Can’t wait to have Star under the stars,” he muttered into her ear as they danced.

She laughed, tickling his ear. “The stars are in our corner.”

His cock twitched. Just the sound of her soft, sexy voice could drive him crazy. “Do you have stars like we do on Venus, sugar?”

“Bigger and brighter ones,” Star said, “but since I’m with you…that doesn’t matter. You make everything look brighter to me.”
