Dagmar left Saxthor and ambled back through the palace halls to her apartment where she broke down, sobbing out her life force.

Saxthor dressed in the most magnificent apparel imaginable, ascended the ancient Engwan throne, and was crowned emperor of the new Powterosian Empire. Beneath the Crown of Yensupov, holding the orb and scepter of imperial power, he sat looking out across the nobility and regal powers of the continent, yet feeling empty.

I’ve gained ultimate power and lost the meaning of my life, he thought. It’s all meaningless. The chatra continued bellowing formal acclamations of the emperor.

Saxthor looked at Dagmar in the front row of the coronation’s attendants. On the other side of the aisle sat Princess Imperial Tottiana, oddly dressed in a jet black gown adorned with black sequins around sparkling golden sapphires. For a moment, Saxthor’s thoughts flashed back to the Dark Lord’s yellow reptilian eyes. He shook his head and looked again at Dagmar.

Life never turns out as you expect it to, he thought, never.
